Katharine McPhee is not faking illness to squirm out of the American Idols tour. Since she was diagnosed with laryngitis , there’s been a lot of speculation that Katharine had OTHER things she wanted to do, rather than tour with the gang. She has NOT been performing elsewhere as rumored. Our inside source tells us that Katharine has been forbidden to even speak – she communicates by “mouthing” words (not even whispering) or text messaging. She’s taken doctors orders very seriously, and hasn’t spoken at all at home. And she is actually very anxious to join the tour and see all her friends again. According to her doctor, it will happen any day now.

Here’s our handsome Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at a recent function with Maria and the kids. Two fun things to note about this photo- take a close look at Maria’s shirt – is that Michelangelo with some artfully placed decoration – or is it a bodybuilder posing? Also, you can’t miss Arnold’s lookalike mini -me son hammily poking his head into the picture. SOMEBODY’S a chip off the old block.

CONSTANT COMPANION

Here’s Jessica Simpson dashing through LAX to catch a New York flight Monday. She’s got her Maltese Daisy in her brand new Vuitton carrying case and the dog looks a bit worried. For good reason. On a recent airport visit Jessica carried her constant companion Daisy in her arms and when she reached the security area, absentmindedly plopped the pup down with her handbag on the conveyor belt to be x-rayed! Security pointed out her error and scooped up Daisy in the nick of time. Now her pooch travels in high style and observers say Daisy (named after her Dukes of Hazzard character) is a filling the void where Nick used to be.

Just last year: Jeremy Piven seems to be growing more and more like his snide character Ari on Entourage. At least when he’s filming commercials where HE’S the star. Setsiders report that Jeremy makes no eye contact and doesn’t speak with any coworkers unless he HAS to – only the director. ” Not pleasant – he acts like he’s above it all.” Limo drivers find him a pain also – they’ re only supposed to drive him to and from the commercial set but gripe that he has them go out of the way to stop at supermarkets and stores and keeps them waiting mercilessly. On his last trip home, the driver dropped him off at a pharmacy and after 30 minutes of waiting he left Jeremy to find his OWN way home.
