Supernova drummer Tommy Lee was catching a smoke, sitting outside an airline building at the Burbank airport deep in conversation with a pretty young girlfriend and his pushy assistant. A steady stream of people came outside to light up and each time the protective assistant jumped up and blocked Tommy, presumptuously waving the outsiders away, insisting “No autographs!” The smokers were irked and finally after a number of them had been shooed away from Tommy, one informed the overzealous assistant “Excuse me but this is the airport employees smoking area – we come here to SMOKE, not to get anybody’s autograph!” and Tommy’s assistant FINALLY shut up. Is Rockstar Supernova giving the usually down-to-earth rocker a big head?

SHE'D LIKE TO FORGET

The arrest of the former lead singer of the Village People, Victor Willis, (the cop) brings to mind a story that might NOT amuse his exwife Phylicia Rashad. In 1980, Willis’s drug use apparently caused him to split with the successful group AND his wife Phylicia. (We bet she’d like to forget THAT period of her life.) Phylicia went on to star on The Cosby Show and drug addled Victor became a fixture on the streets of San Francisco . One day in the early 90’s a friend of ours was walking on Haight and Fillmore and encountered Willis with a blanket on the sidewalk, hawking women’s clothing. There were shoes, boots, lingerie, and assorted sweaters etc. “Fifty cents apiece!” he yelled “These are Phylicia Rashad’s clothes – I used to be married to her! And there’s more where this came from!” Our friend bought a slip, and we wonder -what would Claire Huxtable have thought of this?

Waxy Lips

Another gem from 2002: Jack Nicholson wasn’t thrilled with his girlfriend Lara Flynn Boyle’s new and improved lips. Lara had her lips plumped with collagen and she’s so pleased with the new pouty look that she’s keeping them that way. Jack thought she looked perfectly fine before and gripes that “Her g—— lips feel like wax!” Too bad says Lara – she’s telling pals that if Jack doesn’t like her lips then he can kiss her a– instead! So there.

BEFORE GREASE

The loss of actor Glenn Ford immediately brought to mind one of our favorite movies of ALL time – Blackboard Jungle. It was a shocking sensation in the fifties and every kid HAD to see it. It was the first movie about juvenile delinquents and featured the first hit rock n roll song – Bill Haley’s Rock Around the Clock. It became the theme song of the greaser generation. When that song played at the start of the movie, the audience was ready to rumble. Glenn Ford played a mild mannered teacher assigned to tame a classroom of greasy inner-city thugs including young Sidney Poitier. They nicknamed their teacher Daddy-O and when Vic Morrow pulled a knife on Ford in class – he was sent to the principal’s office! We’ll miss you Daddy-O.
