GUILLERMO DEL TORO WANTS YOU TO LIKE HIS MOVIE

We like a director who’s eager to please. Guillermo del Toro had an early screening of his science fiction movie “Pacific Rim” at the AMC in Burbank and the invitees started lining up early in the AM. Guillermo walked up to the first people in line and asked them if they’d had breakfast yet. Thirty minutes later his assistant delivered breakfast sandwiches from Panera to the first dozen people in standing line. After the movie Guillermo waited outside the theater and discussed the movie with fans and signed autographs.

TOUGH GUYS STALLONE, ARNOLD, AND STATHAM – TIME TO RETHINK YOUR CAREERS?

It’s no secret that we are NOT fond of action movies, so we were fascinated to see that Sylvester Stallone’s “Bullet to the Head” was a flop this weekend. Especially since Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “The Last Stand” and Jason Statham’s “Parker” also failed miserably at the box office recently. Is this a trend? We sure hope so. We have always lamented the beautiful cars that are routinely wrecked in such movies. Not to mention the gunfire, deafening explosions, and bloody deaths. But worst of all were the egos of the leading men engaged in these activities. Even vampires are preferable to those testosterone fueled “strong silent types.”

JUSTIN BIEBER IS DESPERATE TO BE COOL

#justinbieber #janetcharlton

Justin Bieber is frantic to escape his dopey teen idol popstar image, so he’s trying to get close to young rappers like Lil’ Twist and Lil’ Za and dressing in the same baggy pants they do. Of course, he has to lure them with promises of driving his Ferrari (they’ve both been ticketed while behind the wheel) and appears to get high with them. (Blunts and cough syrup have turned up in photos of the guys together.) Justin wants a cooler hip hop image. The rappers enjoy Justin’s generosity and maybe they access some of his groupies, but are they real friends?

WOMEN IN SAUDI ARABIA ARE NOW PERMITTED TO DRIVE

Just kidding. Women still cannot drive – or do much of anything in Saudi Arabia without a male chaperone and heavy black burqa. We love this photo, but women’s rights in Saudi Arabia are no joke. It reminds us of how lucky we were to be born in a reasonably civilized country.
