PR SAVVY RICHARD SIMMONS: IS HE PULLING A FAST ONE ON US?

Awhile back when Richard Simmons went into hiding under mysterious circumstances, we felt sorry for him – sensing he was having some sort of physical or mental problems. The fact that he has not been SEEN for years makes everyone assume his is radically changed somehow – perhaps grossly overweight, crippled, or like the Enquirer suggested, living as a woman. He’s had two suspicious hospital stays this year – were they really for plastic surgery, liposuction, transitioning? This week’s exit from the hospital suggests that Richard is turning into some sort of melodramatic Sunset Boulevard character and enjoys every moment of it. Imagine being hustled out of the hospital covered entirely by a blanket with a police escort to shoo the paparazzi! SOMETHING was under that blanket! Richard just upped the ante – the first photo of him is now worth BIG BUCKS! Is he manipulating all this or is he an innocent recluse?

Frankie Valli

FRANKIE VALLI STILL WALKS LIKE A MAN

Yes, Frankie Valli, 82, and the Four Seasons are STILL touring and this weekend appeared at the London 02 Arena. We’ve always had a weakness for men who sing in falsetto and have seen his excellent show several times. The 5’5″ singer credits his long career to “clean living.” The Broadway smash Jersey Boys (based on Frankie’s life story) gave his career a big boost and he’s still taking advantage of opportunities.

Disguise Jimmy Kimmel Kourtney Kardashian

KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN LOOKS LIKE A NORMAL PERSON

LOVE this photo of Kourtney Kardashian in disguise interviewing various passers-by on Hollywood Blvd. She’s wearing special makeup and a wig so she can pass for a TV news woman and no one recognizes her. It’s all for a comedy segment called “I Witness News” for the Jimmy Kimmel show. It shows that she does have a sense of humor and she’s probably the only Kardashian who could actually disguise herself successfully.

Jennifer Garner Kids

WHO WOULDN’T WANT A MOTHER LIKE JENNIFER GARNER?

How many A-list celebrity moms do you see sitting in a public park watching a soccer game with her little boy? Besides Jennifer Garner, we can only think of two others – Gwen Stefani and Heidi Klum! Jennifer and Sam were watching one of her daughters play soccer. Garner must be the perfect mom – she spends time with each of her children separately and lets them pursue their own interests. She walks them to school and walks them home. Her little boy Sam is a dead ringer for his mom. And that’s not a bad thing.

Denzel Washington Inner City

HAS DENZEL WASHINGTON LET HIMSELF GO?

Nope. Denzel Washington is wearing an afro wig and fake teeth for the first day of filming Inner City in Los Angeles. Judging by the photo, it takes place in the 1970’s – Denzel plays an earnest idealistic defense attorney and Colin Farrell plays a wealthy cutthroat lawyer who gives him big trouble. The writer/director Dan Gilroy, also wrote the movie Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal that we found fascinating.

Kids Vin Diesel

VIN DIESEL IS A DAD TOO

Vin Diesel, 49, is riding high these days with two hit movies in release. He’s come a LONG WAY for a guy who used to be a bouncer at a New York club we went to – The Tunnel! Vin likes to keep his personal life private but he’s definitely been coming out of his shell. He has acknowledged his girlfriend, Mexican model Paloma Jimenez, and occasionally is seen with two of their three children. (The latest was born in 2015 and named Pauline after Paul Walker.) Daughter Hania is 9 and Vincent is 7.

Aaron Hernandez Documentary

AARON HERNANDEZ: AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY

To be honest, we’ve never been particularly interested in football players – that is – until we saw this photo of NFL star Aaron Hernandez in court a year or so ago. He was found guilty of murdering a guy who dated his girlfriend’s sister and sentenced to life without parole. He was drop-dead handsome with the kind of life one DREAMS about – how could this have happened? And NOW a few days after being acquitted of two more murders, he committed suicide in his isolated cell! It’s devastating, and a TV docuseries is already in the works by the Discovery ID producers. How this super-hunk went from football hero to thug is a fascinating psychological study. We can’t stop looking at his photo…

DON’T BLAME JULIA ROBERTS – BLAME DIM-WITTED PEOPLE MAGAZINE

The internet exploded when Julia Roberts was revealed to be People Magazine’s choice for WORLD’S MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN 2017. Not a lot of people said bad things about Julia, but many questioned the choice of a 49 year old five time winner – they wanted a new face. The REAL question is, of course, why is People magazine living in the last century with this archaic sort of “contest!” BEAUTY CONTESTS are WAY past their date of expiration. Even People’s male version is called “Sexiest Man Alive” which implies more than just superficial looks. We’re betting People’s editor is just another oblivious MAN… who thinks he’s doing females a favor by selecting a mature woman. Here’s hoping this is the last year they repeat this nonsense.

Katherine Heigl Rosario Dawson Unforgettable

ROSARIO DAWSON’S “UNFORGETTABLE” – A RARE MOVIE ABOUT WOMEN

The Fate of the Furious is expected to haul in the big bucks again this weekend, but we are WAY more motivated to watch Katherine Heigl play mind games with Rosario Dawson in “Unforgettable” – which was directed by a WOMAN, by the way, –Denise Di Novi. Heigl seems ideally cast as the perfectly groomed Stepford-ish ex-wife, consumed by jealousy of her ex-husband’s free-spirited new fiancée played by Rosario, of course. Women are the main characters and the men are just incidental in this film – just of opposite of Hollywood’s usual fare.

Fashion Fenty X Puma Rihanna

RIHANNA FELT THE LOVE TODAY

Rihanna unexpectedly announced on Instagram today that she wanted to meet her fans at her FentyXPuma pop-up store at 1050 Wilcox Ave in Hollywood. When she arrived, Rihanna was greeted by a mob scene outside the store and she immediately pulled out her fur covered phone to shoot photos. You’ve seen Rihanna wearing a lot of her new collection already – satin hoodies and lacey eyelet sportswear. (We love the hoodie shawl.) Interesting that the MEN’S pink satin bow sneakers are already SOLD OUT!
