We knew that the delightful Anderson Cooper was a fussbudget and somewhat uptight from watching his talk show but we were still surprised to see the Manhattan penthouse he lived in. Cooper is selling this refurbished loft in mid-town Manhattan for $3,750,000, now that he’s moving into his redone firehouse in the Village. The 3100 sq ft, two story residence has 2 bedrooms, two and a half baths, and a 1700 sq ft terrace. But it is so stark and simple and monochromatic that it seems cold and impersonal. It’s as far from gaudy as you can get. The biggest indulgence seems to be the radiant heating under the floors. It does tell you a lot about Anderson Cooper.

I completely agree, and when I saw these photos on another site, I thought exactly the same thing! His apartment looks like the wing of a hospital. Hopefully this is just for the real estate picture purposes.

The thing that struck me the most oddly about him is his eating and drinking habits, what a peculiar man.

I could just imagine all of the immoral filth that went on in that flat.

As I am sure Janet knows, those are staged photos that are released to the public in order to sell the property. Those pieces of furniture “may” or “may not” be his (Cooper).

If those pieces of furniture are actually his, then please know that personal effects (pictures, notes on the fridge, Nana’s handmade quilt …etc. are all removed so protect his privacy. Plus, the real estate office wants the property to project a certain look and they will make sure it will.

The decor of Anderson’s firehouse is said to include lots of Old Masters paintings, giant stuffed Russian bears, ancient maps, a first editions library and an old fashioned gym. This may tell you more about Anderson (and his live-in boyfriend Benjamin Maisani) than the penthouse he’s now selling.

@Zee: those items you listed that are heard to be in his firehouse are things that Benjamin is interested in, so perhaps Benjamin has loosened him up some.

@ Blue: Why on earth should sherry-Lynne be jealous? All she did was make a very correct and astute observation about Anderson’s gay lifestyle.

Anderson may not be a HOAR-der, but maybe he is a man-whore? BTW, who is the husband in their sinful life, Anderson or Benjamin? Anderson must be the wife, as he has a screeching high girly laugh.

I have heard Anderson messes around, so there is a good possibility he could spread the virus that causes AIDS, as has happened so many other times.

    bring it on.

Poor Sherry-Lynne, hasn’t ripped off a piece since Reagan was in office and the bitterness is just too much for her. Hon, you need a wild night with some horned up cagemeat to loosen yo stuff. That would certainly slap the sour right off yo face.

As for Anderson, he makes Momma’s Mussy drip like a toddler’s nose. I’d like to be the meat in an Anderon-Ben sandwich. Oh yes I would.

Yes Miss Denise. We were both very ACTIVE in the Greek college system.

We had an outstanding reputation in our extensive studies of pinga sizemeat at the very busy sorority I ATE APIE.

Her marriage was a huge shock to all the sisters.

I did our house in white , black and wood a few years ago, with the idea that kids and friends would add the colour. It looked great, but if I was alone I felt like cutting my wrists with a white plastic knife.

Excellent point about houses being staged to sell, @Walt (and @Diva).

JC, actually there are a number of hoarders who used to be “neat-freak” and minimalist, and the brain chemistry appears to be similar. This house was definitely staged, but if the house in Nantucket is actually his, in which he filmed some thing with Kathy Griffin, then he is minimalist in his tastes, too — I can’t remember whether he has a hoarder side too; he definitely was teasing his mother about her “being a hoarder” and giving examples.

From what I saw when I used to watch Cooper’s talk show, he may be slightly OCD (I can’t remember whether he actually said that himself, but I think he might have); and his eating habits are strange in a phobic kind of way.

He eats the exact same thing every day, fears all vegetables and actually went outside his comfort zone to try a number of foods on the show’s two specials on food phobias. I was impressed that he was willing to take on his phobias and try them, because many people wouldn’t.

You could see which things were making him gag, but he was well-mannered and didn’t spit anything out. The faces he made were eloquent, though. Some foods he said were “not that bad” and one or two he liked, with the way they had been prepared.

Contrary to what some people have said, I have heard that Cooper does not “throw it about” and, to the contrary, is a little phobic about both relationships and physical contact. Not all gay people are “whores” just as not all straight people are “whores”;-) Most of the people that I know personally — gay, bi, or straight — are not “whores.”

PS: I love the clean, minimalist lines, fresh white paint, and beautiful light in the place. Would that I could pick up a place in New York, particularly for that kind of price;-)

Anderson is an odd duck, very quirky and strange.

Anderson has been with Ben Maisani for at least three years now, so whatever “phobia” he may have had about relationships and physical contact has been successfully erased.

I wish there were photos of the firehouse interior. It has to be incredible.

    On March 5, 2012 at

I highly doubt that Anderson will do a magazine spread on the firehouse like he did with the place on W 38th. There is too much of Ben’s influences at the firehouse. and considering Anderson tells us he lives alone with Molly…..

  30. By Kelly
    On March 5, 2012 at

@Pookie: I don’t claim to know what is going other than he has been with Ben for a few years now, but on that trip last year where he took the mud bath, he said that he doesn’t like to be touched.

  31. By Pookie
    On March 5, 2012 at

@Kelly, he’s also said that he didn’t like to be touched on his talkshow once or twice. He says things like that and maybe he is uncomfortable with strangers touching him, but it’s pretty doubtful that he behaves that way with his bf because that would just be weird.

@Arnie, I agree, he may have been living alone when he had the old W. 38th apartment and the decor of it was all him, but the rumors are that the firehouse reflects some of Ben’s taste, as it would have to since they share it. I guess it would look a little like his bar Bedlam in there with taxidermied animals and whatnot.

  32. By Mark
    On March 5, 2012 at

@Pookie: he said to Kathy Griffin in that taping of the segment at his house in the Hamptons that it was just he and Molly, just last summer, so he clearly is not being honest about who is living with him.

    On March 6, 2012 at

Anderson may be attempting to protect Ben’s privacy by never publicly acknowledging his relationship with him and of course Anderson has never acknowledged that he is gay to begin with. He has never even acknowledged that he even dates anyone at all. He may be the only well-known person who behaves this way.

I dont think he is a great journalist by any means. I dont know if he is a fag or not but so long as he keeps it to himself I dont care. Unlike Ellen, Rosie, Sam, and jenny who wear their lesbianism on their sleeves and/or tattoo’d bodies.

  35. By William
    On March 6, 2012 at

@Nate: I don’t think it is Ben’s privacy he is trying to protect but rather his own. Ben isn’t the first man he has dated and Anderson hasn’t acknowledged any of them. As you said, he has never acknowledged having dated. Quite odd, IMO, considering he knows full well most people know that he does date.
