What’s the big deal with Anderson Cooper’s laughing fit? We saw this video of him trying to deliver the story about Gerard Depardieu peeing on the floor of an airplane and his own copywriter’s puns completely cracked Anderson up on the air. We found his helpless giggling absolutely charming (UNLIKE Depardieu’s revolting behavior) and we just had to laugh along with him. Yet people are criticizing Anderson for being “unprofessional” or worse “giggling like a schoolgirl.” It reminds us that for years women have suffered in silence while men insult each other by comparing each other to a woman or calling each other feminine. As if a female comparison is the most horrible insult one can hurl. Gays have made it socially incorrect to use them as unfavorable comparisons – how about including the female sex in that? Anderson Cooper was not giggling like a girl – he was laughing like anyone else might under the circumstances.

What I can’t understand is how people like Gerard get away with such deplorable behavior. Anyone else (infamous) would have been jailed once the flight landed. Unless it’s a medical condition, there’s no excuse & that was a lack of respect to fellow passengers. As for Anderson? Like yawning & farting,sometimes you can’t hold back the giggles.

You’re right, Janet, I’m sick of men insulting each other by calling each other women. Modern Family beautifully and briefly addressed this when Ed O’Neill’s character, Jay, did that to his brother. Jay’s wife, Gloria, says, “That is funny because women are inferior.” I’m going to use that line the next time someone does that in front of me.
Well that was five minutes of my life I’ll never get back. Yes he was giggling like a little girl, it was stupid and unprofessional, but then the whole schtick was. I have never found potty humor funny in the slightest. They spent way too long on this, it really wasn’t clever. And Gerard D is a gross pig.
Had this been a 60-second riff, extended a few seconds by Anderson’s laughter, it would have been fine. But the news judgment of Cooper and his producers is what’s really laughable. Four friggin’ minutes devoted to a drunk actor who relieved himself on a plane? Ugh.
With Anderson’s usual seriousness of reporting,
it is easy to forget that he is the son of Gloria Vanderbilt. He is usually so professional showing up during the days of Hurricane Katrina and other disasters with first rate reporting and Not being afraid to show his human side. If reporting about Gerard Depardieu and “his main squeeze” brought out a light side on his show, I will think of the times when Anderson was more responsible for hard News stories, and he came through. Anderson was probably reading the prompter for the first time, and was totally unprepared for his on air laugh out loud moment in News history!!

Palermo, I lost my 5 minutes yesterday when I watched that video. Anderson Cooper is no comedian and hopefully, he won’t quit his day job. It was like watching my 13 year old son giggling at stupid YouTube videos.
Had Gerard known he would get this much free publicity, he would have peed on the floor of a plane a long time ago.
He looks so happy and careful and on top of the world and it is very refreshing and a breath of fresh air and wonderful to see him Cheerful.
Thank goodness I didn’t waste my time watching it, but there is a very good reason if he does giggle like a schoolgirl-he would love to be one!
Why all the hate? It’s wonderful to see and hear a person to laugh out loud! It’s infectious and makes the watcher laugh also.
I know that we all take things in different ways, but I will take the approach that there may have been 1 lonely person out there in the world today who saw that video of Anderson, and it may have turned their blues into a ray of sunshine. Sometimes to see someone else laugh at something can be therapeutic for others. So many times when 1 person laugh out loud, it make others want to laugh!!
Since no one really watches Anderson’s show, why does it really matter?

This piece made me so glad I don’t watch TV anymore. I agree with the other posters who feel four minutes of puns devoted to lewd behavior by an out of work actor is just ridiculous.
