ANN B DAVIS: WAS SHE OR WASN’T SHE? IT DIDN’T REALLY MATTER

Who didn’t love Ann B Davis? Our first memory of her was as the wisecracking assistant to pin-up photographer Bob Cummings on Love That Bob. When she appeared on The Brady Bunch she played the same type of character – outspoken, bossy, smart, and sensible in both demeanor and attire. No frills. We always assumed she was a very likeable lesbian – and didn’t everyone dream of having a maid like Alice? When we think of Ann’s no-nonsense characters we are reminded of another actress who often played spinsters: the late Nancy Kulp (Jane Hathaway from The Beverly Hillbillies.) Ironically, Nancy started out as a bird-watcher on Love That Bob with Ann. Both were much loved character actresses who gave lesbians a very good name, whether they WERE or not. (Above- that’s Ann in the window)

  1. Maybe but these where not blatant bull dykes like Ellen and Rosie who foisted their sexuality on everyone. They kept it private.

  2. Well that’s a nice memorial for someone who just died. Question her sexuality. Who cares?? I’m done with this site. That’s just tacky.

  3. IF she leaned in that direction I’m sure she renounced that lifestyle. Ann was a very devout Christian when she died. Why didn’t you mention that Janet. This fact has been known for YEARS?

  4. I agree with Justine. WTH kind of write up is that?!?! Who cares if she was gay. I’m so tired of being gay making headlines. People don’t want to be defined by their sexuality yet throw it in others’ faces. How does that work?

  5. Ms. Davis lived a long and private life, without a hint of scandal. Is it possible that we can just read about her death without having to assume why she chose Not to marry. As a matter of trust, I will repeat in her own words from today’s Newspaper. She chose Not to marry because she did Not think that she would love anyone more than she loved her career, and when was ready for marriage, she felt that all the good ones were taken. Just saying!!

  6. RIP to her and keeping her private life private!

Think Michelle Rodriquez would do that?

  7. Why would Janet try to destroy this beloved character actress career with the filth of lesbianism? RIP ABD.

  8. For God’s sake, enough with the politically correct gay thing…this was a woman who chose to live a Christian lifestyle and enjoyed working as an actress…I live in San Antonio where Ann B. Davis also lived and died…let her rest in peace…give it a break, for God’s sake.

  9. Where is the politically correct gay thing you speak of? The only thing I’m reading is a bunch of homophobes who think it’s an insult to speculate that a long time spinster was possibly a lesbian. Did you forget this is a celebrity gossip website?? By the way, there are gay Christians. Look how many of them are hiding out in the Catholic Church?

  10. What does her sexual orientation have to do with anything? She brought laughter and joy to millions and lived a good life. Shame on you!

  11. ooooooh please, in the past we all made wrong choices.

  12. who cares if she or anyone else is gay ? she was a talented, loving, hardworking woman

if you’re really looking to criticize moral corruption and rank hypocrisy, if you are really looking to express outrage at chronic incest, domestic assault and brutality or a global, systemic grand larceny, look no further than your taxfree nearest church or synagog

Think Michelle Rodriquez would do that? ABD is remembered long after her career, MR won’t be.

  14. Nope, look at Congress, and their staff…the biggest crooks and entitled group in America.

  15. I don’t care if she was a christian, I still enjoyed her acting.

  16. I still love the Brady Bunch, there was something about that show, each of us connected to which was love, family & morals. Janet, please don’t taint Miss Davis’ reputation with hearsay. RIP “Alice”

  17. Janet, there is such a thing as women who just don’t want to get married or even be bothered with a permanent or even sometime man in their life, just because that’s what society expects of them. It doesn’t automatically make them gay.

  18. The absolute best post:

RIP to her and keeping her private life private!

Think Michelle Rodriquez would do that?

  19. The most offensive thing on here is the comment about “the filth of lesbianism”. That’s what I’m afraid is behind the arguments of the people “defending” her, also what makes the is she/ isn’t she guessing game such salacious fuel to write an artical about. Being gay shouldn’t be a jaw-dropping, eyebrow-raising scandal. It should be accepted as easily as being straight.
