ARETHA WANTS HALLE BERRY TO STAR IN HER LIFE STORY, BUT WILL IT HAPPEN?

When Aretha Franklin speaks out she says some interesting things – we’re just not sure what to believe. She refused to reveal why she had those mysterious surgeries in December, and word leaked out from somewhere that she had pancreatic cancer. Recently Aretha announced that she certainly did NOT have pancreatic cancer but still refused to talk about her surgeries. This week she informed Wendy Williams that after a four year struggle, a movie is finally being made about her life and Halle Berry will star, with Denzel Washington playing her father, and Terrence Howard playing Smokey Robinson. It sounds like an all-star dream cast, but is it just a dream? We hope not.

  1. Halle would need to gain 100lbs to play Aretha. A better choice would be that fat chick from Precious.

  2. she must want halle because she thinks halle is pretty
because halle makes COMMERCIALS and can’t act her way out of a paper bag……i think this has been agreed to before.

  3. Aretha must have brain cancer is she thinks Halle is a good choice to play her.

  4. I agree that Halle is not the right actress for this portrayal. Aretha must be beyond delusional if she envisions herself in any way as Halle Berry. Do the powers that be want to doom the movie to bomb right off the bat? I like Halle as an actress and person, but i could never sit thru a whole movie and swallow her as Aretha…it just would not be believable no matter what kind of script they come up with.
They either need to find someone realistically similar or give it up because it will be a laughing stock.

  5. Loretta Divine could be a consideration to play The Queen of Soul, after all she was wonderful
in Dreamgirls. Halle Berry as Aretha NEVER!!
Ving Rhames could get away with playing The Rev. C.L.Franklin because of the voice. Because
Terrance Howard was so good in Hustle and Flow,he could get away with playing Smokey. As a lifelong fan,I dearly love Aretha. Because of her recent illness she may still be on medication, I continue to “respect” her opinions,Halle may be able to portray Aretha’s sister Carolyn, but playing Aretha Franklin as we know Aretha, NO CAN DO!!

  6. It doesn’t matter who stars in this; most of these type movies are flops at the b.o.

  7. Agreed that Hallie is just too glamorous, svelte, and soft an actress to make a believably gritty Aretha, although it’s understood that Hallie’s personal attributes appeal to Aretha’s vanity and are precisely why she wants her. Barbra Streisand brought Fanny Brice to life and accounts for that movie’s success. Hallie may be a lot of things, but she’s not Aretha imo.

  8. Halle has too much white in her to play the very black Aretha to start with and has no amount of the real soul that Aretha has.

  9. strom made half a point, Halle doesn’t have Aretha’s soul. These biopics are always a little touchy and there will always be criticism about who the actor is. I never really saw Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles, but certainly many people in the Academy did.

  10. Was there ever any truth to the long time rumor that her dad molested her and she had a child?

  11. Val Kimer was convincing as Jim Morrison of The Doors, Angela was nominated for her portrayal
of Tina Turner, Dennis Quaid really played Jerry Lee Lewis, and who could forget Gary Busey playing Buddy Holly, the Awards Season was good to Halle in her portrayal of Dorothy Dandridge,
and her performance was well rewarded. In my own warped opinion Halle Berry reading a script, and rehearsing to sing “Respect” is unthinkable. I do not believe that Spielberg,
James Cameron, John Singleton or Spike Lee could get Halle Berry to give an Aretha Franklin Performance. I’m Just Saying, Stay Tuned!!

  12. Walt: Just a teensy thing but a father forcing himself on a daughter to the point of impregnating her would never be “molesting”.
    That’s RAPE pure and simple.

  13. @ Walt Cliff:
Even though you did not ask me directly,I will risk the urge to answer. Rumors quickly become the catalyst for gossip, and by now you know most of us as human beings love a nice juicy piece of gossip, but we also have an obligation to ourselves as readers to weed out what we believe and what we do not believe. Aretha’s parents separated when she and her siblings were very young.Aretha’s mother was in Nursing, and her father was in the Ministry. He was better able to provide for the children financially, and he raised them. Aretha adored her father, and yes it is true that she had her first son as a young teenager, but having her son had absolutely nothing to do with her father. That rumor was an insult to suggest that the closeness that she shared with The Rev. C.L. Franklin had anything to do with incest in her family. I am *Not in Miss Franklin’s inner circle, but a lot of Aretha’s background was covered in her own memoir a few years ago. Aretha has always allowed her personal life to be clouded in an aura of mystery, because she gives few interviews and she does not talk freely about her private life.Unlike the gabfest attitudes of today’s stars who constantly embarrass themselves seeking publicity,it is always a welcome sign to read the latest news about this legendary performer because she volunteers nothing about her life to the general public, which to me is refreshing. Aretha’s autobiography is called “From These Roots” and is a real eye opener and a page turner. Continued Get Well Wishes to Miss Aretha!!

—-Please note if you read my one sentence question that it clearly asks a question.

My one sentence question is not a statement. It is an open invitation for someone/anymore to answer.

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond.

  15. The Black Amos n Andy were much better but older people say the white radio Amos n Andy actually were just as realistic.

Black con men such as Jessie Jackson put pressure on TV to take Amos n Andy off the air because it showed blacks as independent people who had no need of people such as him to tell then that their life was miserable. The black single parent birth rate has increased ever since and education scores have declined since then. Asians have passed them by like rockets in the night.

  16. Strom, just curious, are you black? I get the feeling you’re like this self hating black man.

  17. Queen Latifa!!!

La has always reminded me of this generation’s
Pearl Bailey. Queen Latifa was Oscar nominated
for her role in Chicago, and she was one of the stars of
Hairspray singing and dancing, and strutting her stuff. Queen Latifa portrayal of The Queen of Soul,
    now That’s Entertainment!!

  18. strom: what in the holyhell are you raving about? Has someone pushed you out of your highchair? Have you been chewing the old lead-based paint off the windowsills again? Ceremoniously licking the cleanser off your toilet brush? Surely there must be SOME biological reason for your frothy incoherent rants? Is your babysitter at home? Can you put them on the keyboard for a minute and then we’ll give it right back to you, we promise.

  19. Not Latifah, please. Aretha is not a dyke and Latifah would be too busy hitting on the young girls in the show to get the movie done.

As stated above these movies very rarely are interesting or successful.

  20. Sound so good and really great idea and hope they hurry up soon and get started with this and of course I Love the Lady of soul and she really moves me and grooves me from the time!I was a little boy…Hurry up and do this movie and lets see it come out soon.

  21. The movie is about the Queen of Soul and of course the movie is going to be great and out standing no matter who plays the role…I hope she gets Halle Berry but only time will tell?
