ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT

ArnieCUTBIG_450x348.jpgGovernor Arnold Schwarzenegger spent Father’s Day with his two sons Christopher and Patrick. Recently he advised new immigrants in America to hasten assimilation by immersing themselves in the English language – that means not watching Spanish TV or reading Spanish newspapers. That’s how HE did it when he moved here from Austria and didn’t speak English. And it was the key to his success. The idea caused an uproar in the Spanish press, but we happen to think he’s 100% right

  1. SPEAK ENGLISH! If you want to speak Spanish, go to Mexico or Spain.

  2. the ignorance on this subject is amusing and scary all at the same time. American is out to clone it’s citizens, what ever became of this great melting pot. everyone wants to be paris hilton and nobody wants to be themselves. screw arnold s. and now screw you too janet. I speak several languages and have never witnessed more “isms” against any other language than Spanish. are white people afraid that they will not be the majority very much longer, they aren’t in Los Angeles and here is where the hatred for Hispanics is strongest except they call it Spanish as in a language instead of saying what they really mean, that they hate Hispanics; because if they said that then their racism would be exposed.
have a nice day and open your eyes to what people are really telling you.

  3. ABSLUTELY true! If I moved to mexico I would need to learn the languge!

  4. The old melting pot Americans strived to learn English; Hispanics are incensed by this idea. I work with a woman from El Salvador who has lived here 31 years; she can barely speak English AND she refers to El Salvador as “my country.” What’s this country, then? She spends her lunch hour watching Spanish-Language TV. It’s sad to see her isolate herself so much.

  5. When my maid Gloria refuses to speak English I punish her with a cattle prod.

  6. WHAT’S ARNOLD TALKING ABOUT? HE STILL CAN’T SPEAK ENGLISH! LOL
HE BECAME FAMOUS FOR HIS BODY NOT HIS LANGUAGE SKILLS AND MARRYING A KENNEDY DOESN’T HURT EITHER.

  7. Yup, if folks don’t want to speak English, they should stay home. It is really just that simple.

  8. Um, all I could speak in Spanish class. English not allowed.

  9. He named one of his kids Patrick!!
    That’s so gay!!

  10. Call your senators and protest this Amnesty bill they’re trying to shove down our throats..If you think we have a problem with Spanish speaking illegals now, just wait. This bill allows them to have their families come over too…So let’s do the math; 12-20 million gets legal status and their families come over too…That could be 150-200 million more, coming to your city….Call…get the numbers off the Internet for the senators. CALL…Our nation is in danger!

  11. When we moved here, in 1978, from Nicaragua, we did the same thing as the Governor, so yes, I agree with him 100%.
As far as having to learn to speak Spanish to live in a Hispanic country, not the case anymore. Have any of you been to Costa Rica or Nicaragua? I was astonished to see how many North Americans and Europeans live there! 99% do not speak Spanish because these countries, and there are many more like them, are adopting the English language as their own. In fact, it is my understanding that Nicaragua is going to make English their official second language, thus making it mandatory for ALL residents to learn it! Yeah, well, good luck with that one when 99% of the population is poor! Nice thought though.

  12. We worry about the Hispanics coming her to take our jobs…yeah…like I really want to go out and pick fruit for a living!
Why don’t we worry about all of our good paying job going to India! Better yet, why don’t we worry about all of the Indians coming here to take our good paying jobs!
I know there are a lot of Hispanics living here, but what about all the Asian people that are currently here?
Hey, how about China, let’s talk about them for a bit, everything is made in China! Irrespective of where you purchase the item, whether it be a high end store or not, everything is made in China. What does that do for us? Take our jobs away!
Did you all see the story about the Filipino woman that worked at the post office for 20+ years. Turns out she was illegal, INS is wanting to report her. The woman is asking to stay two more years so that she can retire with full benefits!
I am sure there are a lot of ILLEGALS in this country, if you look around, we no longer look alike, if we are going to pick, lets be fair about it and pick on everyone, not just Hispanics!
DiamondSal, not funny! You are part of the problem, not the solution. If you don’t illegals here, don’t hire them. Simple as that!

  13. The entire world speaks English. It is the language of business around the globe.
If immigrants want to keep doing menial jobs till the end of time, that’s their choice. If they don’t want to learn to speak English, again their choice.
Learning English is part of assimilating into this country and makes it possible to get better paying jobs, receive promotions, and attend college or training programs.
If you feel that you support immigrants to this country, then you should be encouraging that they learn English.
Otherwise, you are just perpetuating the cultural, social, and economic divide – you are NOT being culturally sensitive, but discriminative instead.
Also, if you’re not “racist” and care about immigrants, think twice about what’s going on in Mexico and other home countries. Shouldn’t those governments be providing opportunities to their own citizens? No, instead, they would rather ship out the poorest of the poor to the U.S. and benefit from all of the dollars that are channelled back to their economy (free, no investment required) through Western Union, etc.
And big business in the U.S. gets its cheap labor at the same time.
Those of you who are so “culturally sensitive” and not “racist” should try being politically aware and socioeconomically sensitive instead.
Meanwhile, I’ll be having a margarita. Bottoms up, b*itches

  14. I came from a family that moved from Mexico so we could have a better opportunity and a better life here. My parants worked as maids and field workers. My parents believed that if we wacthed only english news and english cartoons, thier kids could grow up to be somebody. Guess what! My parents were right and the governor is RIGHT! I have a sister who is a teacher with a B.A. in English, another sister with an Master Degree in Physical Therapy, and I am working on my B.A. for Social Worker. I don’t understand why the Mexicans and other latino communities are so scared to get out of there comfort zone. Why are you here? and Why are you complaining?. My family still kept our cultures and our values as Mexicans. Yes! I am proud to say I love my U.S.A.

  20. for the poster who said other countries just send the US their poor let me quote you a famous poem by Emma Lazarous that is posted on the Statue of Liberty “Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
historically only the poorest people leave their countries to permanently live in another one where there is freedom and opportunity and that goes for your ancestors and everyone elses. this country is about freedom and if people choose to learn or not to learn English that is there right since this is a free country. anyone who believes otherwise should move to a dictatorship. I am an immigrant as are my siblings, we have gone on to become doctors, lawyers and executives for the companies that we work for or own. If you are not secure in yourself to worry about what other people are doing or not doing you should focus on that and then maybe you can have so much wealth you could live on top of the highest hill and you wouldnt have to ever see these non english speaking hispanics.
btw, kudos to the poster who mentioned that this is not just a hispanic issue there are tons of people from many countries who come here and dont speak english thats why this is racism issue because the finger is directly being pointed to hispanics by arnold.
and to arnold I met your wife at a charity event in 2005, that there is your real problem all I will say is you should turn off the lights. lol

  21. Am I the only one who saw the zillion illegals marching in the streets in the U.S. Umm..
I think it’s a bit late to begin trying immigration reform. Let’s be honest, it’s f…… impossible. There’s just too many. So you can preach, complain and hate all you want. The bottom line is it’s too late. They’re here to stay.

  22. Yes, all those Austrian TV channels we have over here have to go away. They aren’t helping anybody learn English, especially our governator.
Maybe if we didn’t make such a guilt trip out of learning English and utilized the Spanish channels instead of condemning them, we could help our other-languaged citizens assimilate better. But taking the “You’re in America, learn American” hardass line is just being bullies about it. All these people who say “If I lived in another country, I’d have to learn that language” are retards because every other country in the world caters to English speakers. Plus, Americans are so egocentric that they would assume that everyone else speaks English. I am 100% native American and I have traveled all over the globe and this is exactly what I see every time I’m in Paris or Madrid or yes…Austria. Be nice to immigrants. They are people too.

  23. Whatever…let’s just keep killing Iraqi’s for now and worry about those job stealing Mexicans later.
    And then…Canadians!

  24. YOU! be nice to immigrants and want more for them than the crap jobs that they get now.
When you are an immigrant, learning English is the key to improving the quality of your life here.
People who don’t encourage immigrants to learn English are RACIST and oppressive themselves.
Going back for another margarita and some chips

  25. Thank you Governor Arnold. I didn’t vote for you but I might now!
What most of us ‘white’ folks – and a surprising number of former Mexicans – do not understand is how can Hispanics claim ‘discrimination’ and cry about wanting to get ahead, but they can’t because they refuse to speak English! Sorry people but if you want to get ahead here in the USA, you need to speak the dominant language.
As for “if I moved to France I’d have to speak French”, well maybe not – but those Americans who live there & don’t speak French probably aren’t trying to be citizens either – I think that’s REQUIRED in France, and in any other foreign country. TO BE A CITIZEN, YOU MUST SPEAK THE LANGUAGE, SO PLEASE STOP WHINING.

  26. Of course he’s right. Anyone claiming differently, is the real racist. Let’s keep ’em blimey olive hairs all uneducated and in their cleaning jobs eh!
Any immigrant NOT learning the new language has completely missed the point with trying to get a better life.
And this does not apply to the US only.

  27. He is 100% correct. I am appalled when people come to live here and don’t even bother to learn our language. They will not receive any kind of respect until they learn English and show that they want to be part of our country, instead of trying to divide it.
