BEVERLY HILLS 90210: THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

There’s been an INORDINATE amount of talk about who’s being brought back from the original cast in the CW’s updated version of Beverly Hills, 90210. Jenny Garth, Ian Ziering, and Tori Spelling have all agreed to come back but the big fat question remains: What about the most identifiable and memorable actor on the show? Shannen “Brenda” Doherty, of course! Her bad-girl exploits (tame compared to the bad girls of today) contributed enormously to making the high school drama a hit. But as Tori Spelling wrote in her book, the rest of the cast grew intolerant of Shannen’s lateness and attitude, and they pushed Aaron Spelling to fire her. Her departure was pretty much the kiss of death for the series. Shannen WOULD get a lot of people tuning in to the new 90210, but her name never comes up! How come?

JC, I do not believe this project is worthy of analysis or further discussion.
Whether Doherty returns or not is not important.
This television show is not important.

It would be a miracle if the series could be resurrected; and esp. without Shannen, it is dead. PS: Wow, what a large long forehead on Luke Perry.

She was a hell-raising cokehead/booze hound and pissed off important people.
Oh well thems the breaks!
But if they wanna make more adverstising $$$ they’ll bring her on for, at least, a guest shot.

Michael K of DListed has run non-stop entries bemoaning why Shannen Doherty has not been asked to return, along with clips of her in the original series. I haven’t owned a TV in 7 years, yet I know all about this. How pathetic is that?

Nobody will watch unless Brenda comes back to the zipcode.

They’re stupid for not approaching her simply because she’s was the only interesting one on the show. She’s soooooooo bad it’s good. Real good. Methinks she’ll be on the show somehow someway.

6:40 Shannen still makes a percentage off the show Charmed and I believe re-runs of 90210. She’s not Lohan. Shannen has her own special spice that’s what made 90210 so damn good. Then she left and I had to look at Tori’s horse face and Jenny Garth’s boring ass……then I just stopped watching the show.

90210 was a tangled web of mish-mash stories. After a while, it was all too much bed-swapping. Tori is not a great actress, but she WAS Donna Martin. It would be interesting to see what they do with it.

It’s over.. dunzo.. non of the characters are worthy of admiration even by old fans.. and frankly that series was dumb and badly acted when it was first produced.

Please. The show hardly suffered when no-talent Shannen Doherty left. Tiffani-Amber Thiessen moved in, took over and the show went on for at least 4-5 more highly rated seasons!

Warren, I am old, and I got hooked on the show and never missed it. U R right about Shannen. Tiffani was much better.
