BILLY CRYSTAL REALLY WANTS TO HOST THE OSCARS

Billy Crystal, pictured above leaving Spago, still hasn’t given up on the idea of hosting the Oscars again this year. After last year’s Anne Hathaway-James Franco disaster, many people campaigned to have Billy return. Since then, Oprah has been under consideration, and recently Eddie Murphy surfaced as a strong possibility. Billy seems to WANT the job more than anyone else, and he never disappoints.
UPDATE: As you now know, Eddie Murphy landed the job. Maybe next year, Billy.

I don’t think this is Billy’s Oscar comeback year, given that Brett Ratner doesn’t seem overly enthused about him. It will be interesting to see if Eddie Murphy lands the gig after walking out of the Oscars a few years ago when he lost for Dreamgirls.

Not a big Billy Crystal fan! I think they should get Whoopi Golberg to host again. She would be awesome!!

Never watch the show, but my money would be on Hugh Jackman. He’s easy on the eyes and a consumate pro. They should stick with him for the foreseeable future.

No comment about Crystal, but Murphy takes himself far too seriously these days to be worth watching. The hosting role takes a light touch, which he just doesn’t have. Chris Rock or Steve Martin would be better choices among actor/comedians.

Or hey, how about Ryan Seacrest—just to see how many viewers commit ritual seppuku? 😉

Muffin—forgot about Whoopi; she would be an excellent choice.

    or…how about Strom!
    That would be rich.

why did Billy stop hosting in the first place? I think he did a great job and was funny then all of a sudden he stopped. What happened?

Loved Billy as host. I don’t know if he still has his comedic edge, but he couldn’t be as bad as last year.

Go away, Billy. Stop channeling Marty Allen.

Strom has a book signing that night! Billy would be great, Whoopi is too much the bag lady…doubts on both as they want to go younger and not older!

Maybe BLACK Morgan Freeman and his fiance/step-grandaughter.

Whoopie substituted profanity for humor; Kathy Griffin would be much better.

Always loved Billy’s hosting of the Oscars.

What book signing Strom? The biography of Morgan Freeman? He has a new movie coming out. I’m sure you’ll be first in line when the tickets go on sale.

Strom are you signing the books, or attending a book signing?

As said many times…it’s not about poster’s!

Take a look at recent pictures of Serena Williams and google the French reaction by calling her a “gorilla.”

Billy is too worn out, fat, and just plain old news. Plus, he tries too hard; if he gets the gig you can bet the first 30 minutes will be of him trying to get a few laughs, which will make the show go waaay over the time limit again. Most of the Oscars is boring and the only laughable part is when two fag producers or directors get up on stage and french kiss; so deplorable, yet laughable. (Not to mention ellen kissing Portia di Rossi). lol

it should be hosted by jon stewart.

i think strom and indy are the same people. both use slurs for referring to people. indy refers to breasts as “t _ts (in one of her posts last week) just like most men do.

  17. By Strom
    On September 6, 2011 at

Breastless Ellen kissing anyone is a fright!
Hillary with a grin and strap on would be more of a fright!

Strom is only Strom…..it’s not about the posters as many seem to think.

    “Strom is only Strom”

you refer to yourself in third person? who does that?

YES, IT IS ABOUT THE POSTERS!

    Is Janet also Strom?

Does it really matter who hosts the Awards. They have become so political and irrelevant that those that still watch do so just for the Fashion.

  20. By Strom
    On September 6, 2011 at

Nope……..Eddie Murphy now seems to be in the lead for it.

    It’s not about the posters!

  21. By palermo
    On September 6, 2011 at

Does anybody still watch the awards? I only like to see the arrivals. The rest has become much too tedious, the show lasts several hours too long and somebody always has to make a political statement to draw attention to themselves.

    On September 6, 2011 at

Nicky, my sweet, I can assure you I am not Strom, and I am not posting under any other name; what’s the point in that anyway? My full name (as I’ve said before) is Christine India. Me pap is 1/2 East Indian, and that’s how I got my nickname. I care not if one thinks I am Strom, but I am not.

Nicky, could you be someone else? (oh horrors!).

  23. By Casonia Logenberry..Elisa? I hate the way you act toward other people and..If you win? Then it is going to suck in so many ways and of course your well hated by the world already and your personality really blows and your mean and heartless.

What ever makes this man happy and of course he is old school and lead man in some movies and…He is tender and sweet and well liked in this world. Yes let him do it and put his special torch on the show. Good Luck and hope he makes it!

Yes I am back and of course I Have massive amount of things to say but Billy Crystal was a Lead man at some point of his career and of course he has come along way and in some small way has opened the door for other actors to come throw. He has played many roles but the role that means massive amount is Gay roles and it shows another side of him and it is tender and sweet.

  26. By Strom

Agree with Nicky – Jon Stewart would be a brilliant host. Can’t think of anyone who would do a better job skewering the squirming attendees while making the home viewers howl at their discomfort.

I bet he had something really good on Rat**ner. He’s considered a huge has been in Hwood circles & he threw a hissy fit @ the oscars when he didn’t win a few years ago. Smells like blackmail to me.

  32. By right

Now that he’s not hosting this year, he should use that free time to exercise. Learn to push away from the table, you’re getting fat.

Loud screams of joy coming from the pflag and glaad. LOL

  34. By Strom

Mel B might trap Eddie again in a babydaddy scam.

GLAAD was really rooting for Whitney Houston to get the nod. Gayle really Rooting for Oprah!

NAACP is hoping BLACK Morgan Freeman and his fiance/step-grandaughter gets a major part in the show.

  35. By Mona Garrett
    On September 6, 2011 at

It sounds like the decision was already made—before the “floater” story was circulated, that he was being “considered.”

They must want to shake things up after last year’s debacle. But Eddie’s surely going to have to “work blue” in order to generate any controversy/interest.

The show is a boated mess and Murphy’s glory days are looong gone. I’m betting his old “Gumby” character from SNL will make an (embarrassing) appearance.

Billy is too fat and washed up he doesn’t sell movies anymore this time has passed. Fatties don’t host Oscar. And save the comments if he was a chick he’d be trashed for being a pig.

  37. By Mona Garrett
    On September 7, 2011 at

He does seem to have packed on the pounds over the years…

Remember when he was whippet-thin and played Jody Dallas—the first openly gay character on TV in the comedy series, “Soap?”

  38. By Denise
    On September 7, 2011 at

Thanks for the memories Mona. “Soap” was such a groundbreaking show and very funny.

As for Eddie Murphy, I understand that he’s going to be in Brett Ratner’s new movie. So I’m guessing he had a leg up on the hosting gig?

  39. By Mona Garrett
    On September 7, 2011 at

    So THAT’S the connection!

I just KNEW it had to be something, Denise. Eddie is such an odd choice, IMHO, for all the reasons offered above.

At the end of the day, it may come down to his hosting just being a part of promoting whatever film of Ratner’s he’s appearing in.

That evidently was the hook when Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin hosted together; they both costarred in that (awful, if you ask me) film with Meryl Streep.

(P.S. Speaking of “Soap,” I had a few personal encounters with Katherine Helmond years ago. She played sweet, lovable “Mona” (Jody’s mom) in the series. Two words about KH: Not Nice. :()

Even the Hollywood Yid Mafia doesnt seem to be supporting him. Where is Shecky Green, Don Rickles, and Alan King when you need them?

  41. By Patrick

Soap was hilarious. Remember when Bert was abducted by aliens and replaced with the sex mad alien look a like.
Mona, most stars are douchebags in person. Although Robin Williams was cool when I met him.

  42. By Casonia logenberry..Hells kitchen..I want elisa to get kicked off the show and the main reason for that is that! I want to be the first black woman to win on the show and yes she does a good job but her personality stinks and..I hate her? I hope she hangs
    On September 7, 2011 at

Billy Crystal maybe fat but his pocket book is bigger then all people put together on this blog and yes he can never be washed up..Mainly because people still love him and…He is always going to get paid…Even if he never works another day in his life and…I hope that he picks up the phone and ask for a small part of the show and..I do wish him luck.

I quit watching the Oscars(along with most of the dreck Hollyweird turns out)years ago.

It looks like Billy has REALLY let himself go.

  44. By Mel Zipskin
    On September 7, 2011 at

@Casonia, so? He has a few bucks, and? In Hollywood you’re only as good as your freshest project and Crystal is stale at this point, he’s close to being a has-been, a relic for a certain generation. How the hell old are you, 65?

He also is hammy and pathetic, he does need that turkey neck lipo’ed. He and Garry Shandling used to look alike till Garry got a good lift.

  45. By Strom

Well Billy can host the Israeli Bond fund gathering and tell all the yiddish jokes they love to tell on themselves. Maybe Shecky Green and Joey Bishop are available too. Bring on the lox and bagels!

    Maybe CSL will be invited!

  • HOLLYWOOD WHODUNIT: LOOK WHO’S NOT TALKING ABOUT HARVEY WEINSTEIN !
    |

We love every one of Harvey Weinstein’s female accusers – but what about the actresses who AREN’T talking? One actress who won an Oscar in the 90’s has been CONSPICUOUSLY SILENT about the casting couch scandal. It’s because SHE has had a long-term “arrangement” with Harvey in which she traded sex for showbiz favors and it must have been awful, but her career prospered. Now this A-lister is horrified at the prospect of being found out! And, guess what – she’s NOT the only one who’s conspicuously silent!
    Any guesses?
