BORAT: THE VILLAGERS ARE OUTRAGED!

This is almost too funny to be believed. You all remember the beginning of Borat where he’s introducing people in his impoverished village in Kazakhstan as rapists, prostitutes and abortionists? It turns out this is a REAL village in Romania and the inhabitants had no idea Sacha Baron Cohen was making fun of them – now they’re thinking of taking legal action. They told reporters from the UK’s Daily Mail that the movie people misled them -implying it was a documentary – and paid them only around $5 each. “We couldn’t understand a word they said and they made us look like uncivilized savages. ” The remote mountain village called Blod has around a thousand gypsies living mostly on welfare, in dilapidated huts without toilets, with only donkeys for transportation. None have seen the movie because the closest theater is 20 miles away. They’re trying to get organized enough to sue, but it costs money. And they’re not getting a lot of respect from their own leaders. The local vice mayor remarked “They got paid so I am sure they are happy. These gypsies will even kill their own father for money.” It makes you want to see the movie AGAIN.

  1. I’m curious to know the origins of this report. Sounds like a bit of follow-up marketing. Great idea, tho.

  2. I’ve seen this movie twice and it is a comical “10”. I think it will become a cult classic. Seriously, almost everyone in the movie comes off looking bad – it’s for laughs. And, OMG – laugh you will! Go see it!!

  3. I hope Sacha doesn’t get sued by the people he fooled now that his movie is making so much money!

  4. Oh———lightn’ up! It’s so refreshing seeing something so un – PC! Rock on, Borat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. THIS FILM WAS NOT ONLY BRAINLESS AND OFFENSIVE, IT WAS DISGUSTING. ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE DUMBING-DOWN OF AMERICA. BORAT IS NOT FUNNY – THAT ACTOR SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF.

  6. This movie perpetuates Racism and every other thing that helps to ruin a harmonious society. It was a waste of our time

  7. I saw this last night. I’m Jewish. I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants. It’s silliness to the core – and exposes all that is pathetic about our society!

  8. just came from seeing Borat, I was on the floor howling at the jokes.
FYI, Amerikkkans come off worse than the Romainians!

  9. This was the funniest movie I have seen in a long time. My wife and I laughed uproariously right along with the entire audience. And then to find out that these were real people and not actors staging these episodes just makes it funnier. It makes fun of everyone – jews, blacks, Bible-belt christians, etc. It is halerious!! I am going to see it again!

  10. Update from what I put in earlier. I presented a talk for my Kazakhstan Sister City Group on Wed. November 15th. Actually Borat is being turned from lemons to lemonade because of curiousity. If you want to read real things about Kazakhstan, I posted this on my blog Varietyviews

The article is called the “Anti-Borat” There are people in my group who are boycotting it. I explained to them you want the attention to become positive.
BTW, most Kazakh women are beautiful.
