Brooke Shields mother Teri died from dementia related illness this week – she was well known for being an early “momager” like Kris Jenner. Teri managed Brooke’s career from her shocking appearance in the movie “Pretty Baby” at the age of 11, to her Calvin Klein jeans ads and beyond. In 1995 Brooke, with great difficulty, finally ended her business relationship with her mother. What few people realize is that Brooke was an amazing daughter and fiercely protective of her mother. Teri was an alcoholic and embarrassed Brooke on numerous occasions when she showed up at photoshoots and publicity events totally bombed. Young Brooke always made excuses and took care of her mother. Despite her mother’s humiliating behavior, Brooke was always patient and kind to Teri and looked after her. It was a difficult situation and we have always admired Brooke for this. Sorry to hear that. It’s always hard losing your mom, no matter what age. Teri could be trying yet Brooke turned out well, graduated from Princeton so she deserves some credit. There is no comparison to that awful Kartrashian woman. I think Teri always had Brooke’s best interests in mind(even with Pretty Baby).

The fact that BS has turned out so well is truly a credit to her character as a person. I don’t know how anyone could watch a piece of romanticised pedo garbage like Pretty Baby or the sexualized ads BS did for Calvin Klein(at such a young age) and think her mother had her best interest at heart.
I thought she looked terrific in both Pretty Baby and the Calvin Klein ads. Many little girls today are far more provocative at a much younger age than she was then. I had no problem whatsoever with either, and Brooke certainly turned out very well. The hypocritical prudery in this country is staggering.
I agree that the images of young women we’re seeing these days is very disturbing, but none compare to the 11 year nude Brooke Shields in Pretty Baby. Only in Hollywood could a mother do that an not get charged with a crime.
Having said that, Brooke herself is to be admired. My sympathies on the loss of her mother.
