The case of the HIV positive German pop star Nadja Benaissa, 28, who is accused of deliberately exposing three men to the sexually transmitted disease, brings up a lot of questions. Nadja was a runaway teen drug addict before she found success with her music group No Angels. They sold five million records and she kept her disease a secret because she felt it might jeopardize the group. Now one of the three accusers, called “Ralph” that she dated six years ago, “suspects” she gave him HIV. The other two men accusing her of reckless endangerment are not HIV positive. Many questions arise: Why didn’t Ralph use a condom? That was HIS decision. Whether Nadja told him she was disease free is not known. There is no way of proving that Ralph didn’t pick up the HIV virus ELSEWHERE in all those years before and after. Guys who date pop stars ARE prone to risky behavior. Was it deliberate? We doubt that. We also question the probability that Nadja passed on the virus at all. Female to male transmission during sex is extremely rare. Infected men like to SAY they got HIV from a woman because the other alternatives aren’t so glamorous. Hopefully, Nadja, now on trial, will find justice.

I thought they can tell with all probability if a particular person gave you AIDS throgh testing the strain of DNA of the two people infected. If she did willingly expose someone, the least charge she should get is ASSAULT WITH A DIDDLY WEAPON.

I commend you for writing about both parties having equal responsibility for safe sex. At first I was repulsed anyone would not tell a partner they had HIV, and then have unprotected sex with anyone. You are correct, female to male transmission is very rare, but does happen, the other two people she had sex with didn’t get HIV. I guess what this proves is that risky sexual behavior can kill you.

Female transmission is rare, and the article said SHE WAS A DRUG ADDICT. He may not have been infected through sex, but by sharing a needle.

Find justice? What she did was criminal, and she needs locking up. Anybody who has sex with somebody when they know they have AIDS, it’s like pulling the trigger of a gun. You absolutely have the responsibility of telling your partner.
I think this is total reprehensible that this “pop star” did not require her sex partners to wear a condom. If you KNOW you have a deadly disease it is YOUR responsibility to tell your partner and insist they protect themselves. Most men don’t like condoms and would rather not wear one but if you tell them you have HIV I can assure you they would rather wear it. How can you defend this woman not telling them? She should be arrested.
This story just highlights to con of sexuality and romance. People think that when love and/or sex is involved, there is some degree of trust and honesty. The reality is that that is the last place you are going to find any level of integrity. Sorry to say it, but the abstinence movement has a point.
