Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are the answer to Oscar’s prayers. For the first time in YEARS, the hosts were better than the glamorous participants. The two pros played off each other expertly and there were no awkward silences or embarrassing moments (except for Neil Patrick Harris.) Two hosts are definitely better than one and these two were so entertaining that we kept wishing they were onstage MORE. Again, Alec has redeemed himself.

Alec Baldwin needs anger management ASAP. He returned home after work today and a photographer ran up and inquired about his “health” (after the emergency room visit last night.) Baldwin insisted the photographer had made physical contact with him and told the doorman to call the police.The police arrived and Baldwin insisted the paparazzi had “assaulted” him. He became agitated and lunged at the photographer and police had to pull them apart. Somewhere, Kim Basinger is laughing to herself.

ALEC BALDWIN WON’T BE ABLE TO AVOID BAD PRESS AS LONG AS KIM BASINGER IS AROUND

Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger still seem to have the most dysfunctional Hollywood divorce. Alec endeavors to cultivate a nice relationship with his daughter, Ireland, now 14, but things went awry last night. From what we put together, Alec and Ireland were arguing at midnight and Alec took an Ambien which “gave him a bad reaction.” Ireland seemed to assume Alec was taking pills in a harmful way and called 911. Alec allowed himself to be taken to the hospital to be checked out in order to avoid further problems. He returned at 2 AM to find paparazzi waiting for him. Alec assumes Kim notified the press to make him look bad. Ireland seems to be caught between her father’s volatile temperament and her mother’s supposed vindictiveness.

ALEC BALDWIN HAS GONE TO BAT FOR MICHAEL VICK

Alec Baldwin’s support for Michael Vick has us perplexed. Animal activist Alec blogged to The Huffington Post that he feels that because Vick is a public figure, he’s being judged by more rigorous standards than other people who abuse animals. Alec claims the owners of meatpacking plants and directors of medical research on animals aren’t as harshly judged because they are out of sight. Baldwin feels that Michael Vick deserves another chance to prove he is a changed man. We take offense to the notion that meat packers and medical researchers can be COMPARED to a bloodthirsty monster like Vick who deliberately tortured and killed domesticated PETS for his own twisted amusement. Some things are not so easy to forgive. Sorry Alec, you struck out on this one.

ALEC BALDWIN STILL HAS A SENSE OF HUMOR

Alec Baldwin DOES have a big mouth at times, but we don’t think his “Filipino mail order bride” comment to David Letterman deserved the amount of flak it got. (Alec joked to Dave that he might need a Filipino mail order bride in order to achieve the goal of having more children.) Philippine government officials took the offhand comment very seriously and were outraged. Baldwin had to apologize. What’s wrong with these people who can’t take a joke? A sense of humor is SO essential – we’re backing Alec on this one. Above, Alec is having iced coffee in Bridgehampton, New York, with a female friend.

Alec Baldwin continues to score points with his lanky 13 year old daughter Ireland to make up for his infamous “rude little pig” remark. Ireland was Alec’s excited date for the SAG Awards and she wore a very grown up black dress on the red carpet. Ireland sat in the audience and watched him get TWO awards – Best TV Actor and Best Ensemble in a Comedy for “30 Rock.” It’s safe to say she’s looking at her dad with new admiration.

Alec Baldwin must be happy because his exwife Kim Basinger has been cooperating and he’s able to spend some time with his 13 year old daughter Ireland. He took her shopping at American Apparel in Soho. It’s hard to believe that Ireland is already taller than her father.

Alec Baldwin has been bending over backwards to make up for that angry phone message he left for his daughter Ireland. It looks like he’s turned himself into the perfect good-natured dad. He flew in from New York over Memorial Day weekend to spend time with Ireland,12, (who’s getting tall like her model mother Kim Basinger.) He was seen in Malibu taking Ireland and her girlfriends out for smoothies. And he couldn’t have been sweeter to the photographers, either!

Sorry to interrupt your lunch, Alec, but we can’t help but notice that you are perched on an exceptionally tiny chair while you attempt to enjoy that Caesar salad. In fact, your lunch accommodations on the set seem to be minimal at best – and hardly private. We’re happy to see you’re no longer the demanding tyrant you once were! (Note- Alec Baldwin is in costume for his movie “My Sister’s Keeper” which is being filmed at the courthouse in downtown Los Angeles.

Alec Baldwin, clad in workout clothes, was walking into the Apple store in Sherman Oaks when he glanced at a guy walking out and said “Don’t I know you?” The man stopped and replied “Yes, I used to do Kim’s hair.” (Kim Basinger is Alec’s exwife.) Alec was friendly and asked “Do you still do her?” The man said “No, I haven’t done her in a long time.” Alec rolled his eyes and snorted “Neither have I!” Before Alec left he warned the guy “Remember- the only people Kim is nice to are people who make her look good.”

KIM BASINGER: GONE TOO FAR?

Kim Basinger may have crossed the line here. She’s hired around the clock BODYGUARDS to protect her 11 year old daughter Ireland from her angry father Alec Baldwin. Baldwin has apologized both publicly and privately to his daughter for his voicemail tirade in which he called her a “thoughtless little pig.” Alec is in New York and cannot see his daughter at least until a May 4 court date. Apparently all that negative publicity wasn’t enough to satisfy Kim, she had to rub salt in the wound by hiring bodyguards to “protect” her daughter. We wonder – will she send the bill to Alec?
