RUMER WILLIS: DANCING WITH THE STARS CHANGED MY LIFE!

AG086260_08fumer

Rumer Wilis, 27, is living proof that Dancing with the Stars can change a contestant’s career. Before winning the dance trophy, Rumer appeared in a few forgettable movies and guested on a number of TV shows. But she admits she had no confidence. (Online haters have always been particularly cruel to her. You know who you are.) On DWTS she showed off her dancing skills and her lithe figure and she was DAZZLING. Broadway producers saw her and offered her the role of Roxie Hart in Chicago. Her Broadway dreams came true thanks to DWTS. IS JAMES FRANCO BETTER ON INSTAGRAM THAN HE IS IN REAL LIFE?

ofmiceandmencut

James Franco is not gonna be happy. LA Times critic Charles McNulty gave his Broadway performance in “Of Mice and Men” (with Chris O’Dowd and Leighton Meester) a blistering review. Franco is noted for his almost ridiculously busy schedule – he acts, he teaches, he writes, he directs, he makes appearances everywhere. The Times critic pointed out that this play exposes the limits of his dilettantism and that his intelligence doesn’t serve him here. Franco “seems to be going through the motions and saves his best acting these days for Instagram.” Indeed, before the play opened in New York, Franco admitted that he was rushed, and on his ONLY day off each week he flew back and forth to LA to teach a class. THAT’S how overbooked he is. But he still LOOKS good – McNulty said Franco’s character looked more like a Gap ad than a California migrant worker. And the girls are lined up outside the stage door.

IT’S NOT KATIE HOLMES’ FAULT IF HER PLAY IS A BOMB

#katieholmes #janetcharlton

So WHAT if Katie Holmes’ Broadway play “Dead Accounts” is a turkey! It’s not fair to blame Katie for the fact that tickets are not selling and it’s likely the show will close soon. Reviewers have criticized the script while praising the actors so it’s more appropriate to blame the playwright. Actually this acting job was a logical choice for Katie to make – she didn’t get any movie offers to film in New York, and she absolutely wanted to be home for Suri’s first year in school. Katie’s keeping busy while keeping her name out there, so it WAS a sensible choice.

CHER PLANS TO “TURN BACK TIME” ON BROADWAY

#cher #janetcharlton

Cher has finally started talking – tweeting- about a Broadway musical based on her life that’s been in the works for awhile. According to Billboard, the show has been in development for several years but it sounds irresistible. The musical would be divided into three segments with different performers playing Cher in each stage of life and interacting with each other as well. One actress would play Cher as a young pop star with Sonny Bono, another would play her during the “Believe” years up to 1999, and Cher would play herself in the present day, giving advice to her younger selves. Who wouldn’t want to see that?

IT’S NOT “SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED,” BUT MOTOWN’S COMING TO BROADWAY!

#berrygordyjr #motown #janetcharlton

At 83, Berry Gordy Jr. finally seems to be getting serious about producing an autobiographical musical about Motown, according to Michael Riedel in the NY Post. In 2006 he nearly produced a Motown musical based on a fictional high school romance incorporating the famous songs called “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” in Los Angeles. But he cancelled the show because he had sold his publishing rights to the songs for 300 million dollars and needed to negotiate a deal to use them. The success of Frankie Valli’s “Jersey Boys” pushed him to get serious about doing a Motown musical based on ACTUAL EVENTS. (Plus the success of his son and grandson in LMFAO has made him more relevant.) Berry’s looking for a scriptwriter now and we wonder how HIS version of the story will compare to the memories of his performers like The Supremes and The Temptations...(Above, Berry and The Supremes way back when)

TOM HANKS WILL MAKE A “SPLASH” ON BROADWAY

Tom Hanks hasn’t had a hit movie lately so he’s making the logical move to Broadway. He’s been waiting for the right property to come along and this seems like a good fit. The brilliant Nora Ephron, (who wrote Hanks’ hit “Sleepless in Seattle,”) has written a new play, “Lucky Guy,” about a New York tabloid reporter who flourished in the 80’s and 90’s, which is considered the end of the era of newspaper dominance. It’s based on the real story of NY crime reporter Mike McAlary, who had a noteworthy career and died young at 41. This will be Tom Hanks’ Broadway debut.

Red haired Rumer Willis, 22, is multitasking in New York. She’s smoking a cigarette, carrying one dog in her coat, and walking the other on a leash in Central Park. She’s currently performing in the off-Broadway production of “Love, Loss, & What I Wore.” The play, written by Nora and Delia Ephron, is a series of funny vignettes involving women and fashion, and Rumer will be appearing until April 24.

PEE WEE HERMAN IS GRATEFUL TO HIS LOYAL FANS

Pee Wee Herman (Paul Reubens) came out of the backstage door at the Stephen Sondheim Theater on Broadway with a megaphone to thank all his fans for supporting him through good times and bad. “The Pee Wee Herman Show” opened to great reviews – the New York Times described Pee Wee as “a human exclamation point” and the show as “a bubble bath of nostalgia.” (We can picture the audience full of ageing hipsters and parents with children.) After a 20 year pause, the show has Pee Wee entering the world of computers. What could be more fun for the Christmas season?

THE SHOW WENT ON WITHOUT SCAREDY-CAT LUCY LIU

“Charlie’s Angels” star Lucy Liu, who’s currently performing on Broadway in “God of Carnage,” just earned herself the label “ pampered Hollywood actress.” According to Michael Riedel in the New York Post, Lucy was the ONLY Broadway actor who was too cowardly to go onstage Saturday night during the bomb scare. She panicked after talking to police outside the theater, and her UNDERSTUDY stepped up and went on with the other actors in the show.

BROADWAY AGREES WITH CATHERINE ZETA-JONES

At first glance it’s almost difficult to recognize Catherine Zeta-Jones. She’s looking slim and pretty – the rigors of Broadway where she’s appearing onstage in “A Little Night >Music “ is keeping her trim. She’s also probably worried about her husband Michael’s son Cameron and his drug charges.
