Rob Pattinson’s arrival and departure at The David Letterman Show caused a huge uproar on 53rd Street. Frenzied fans and sobbing women had to be corralled behind blockades but they busted loose and police closed down the whole block. Through it all Rob kept a pleasant look on his face and attempted to acknowledge and sign for as many people as possible. He has a good attitude toward his fans. It IS odd that People didn’t choose Rob as Sexiest Man Alive considering what he does to women.

THE COLOSSAL CHUTZPAH OF DAVID LETTERMAN

We’re still adjusting to the idea of David Letterman as a casanova, but the facts cannot be denied. We were particularly surprised to learn that Dave had the nerve to bring his girlfriend/personal assistant, Stephanie Birkitt, along on his last family vacation with his wife and child to St Barts. Letterman’s wife Regina had no idea that Stephanie was anything more than an innocent coworker. Birkitt, a $200,000 a year “employee,” is currently on paid leave from the “Late Show.”

THE DAVE LETTERMAN AND BONNIE HUNT CONNECTION

One person who has been conspicuously silent about the David Letterman scandal is Bonnie Hunt. Both midwesterners, Bonnie and Dave have been close friends for years – he always appreciated her talent. Back in the 90’s he helped her career enormously by backing two sitcoms for her and he even offered Bonnie the Late, Late Show after Craig Kilborn left. (Bonnie astutely felt she was more the daytime talkshow type.) To his obvious delight, she was a frequent guest on the Letterman show. Naturally that started us thinking that maybe Bonnie was one of Dave’s secret girlfriends. She’s cute and smart – definitely his type.

DAVID LETTERMAN: GREAT BOSS, NOT SO GREAT HUSBAND

Not only were we surprised to learn that mild mannered midwestern born David Letterman (above with former assistant Stephanie Birkett) was a lothario in his own office, but we were equally shocked to find out the girls in the office still love him! In fact, Dave’s production company has always been known as female friendly – meaning they get hired and promoted and paid like men. Former employees who have dated Dave swoon that they never felt pressured by their boss and they were absolutely crazy about him! They found Dave to be funny and endearing. Not one of his former paramours has a bad word to say about Letterman and most were heartbroken when the relationship ended! “The girls all love him” offered one employee. So far it appears that he’s a lousy husband but not such a bad boss.

SACHA BARON COHEN CAME IN LIKE A LION AND OUT LIKE A LAMB

Sacha Baron Cohen walked INTO the Letterman show in New York looking like his normal dashing self, but he walked OUT afterward in full “Bruno” drag. Apparently he gave himself a radical “gay” makeover in the dressing room. This is the first time we’ve seen him NOT dressed like Bruno in quite awhile. It must be a relief for his fiance Isla Fisher. (We can hardly WAIT to see the movie.)

ALEC BALDWIN STILL HAS A SENSE OF HUMOR

Alec Baldwin DOES have a big mouth at times, but we don’t think his “Filipino mail order bride” comment to David Letterman deserved the amount of flak it got. (Alec joked to Dave that he might need a Filipino mail order bride in order to achieve the goal of having more children.) Philippine government officials took the offhand comment very seriously and were outraged. Baldwin had to apologize. What’s wrong with these people who can’t take a joke? A sense of humor is SO essential – we’re backing Alec on this one. Above, Alec is having iced coffee in Bridgehampton, New York, with a female friend.

2005: Oprah Winfrey is about to call a truce in her feud with David Letterman, but it’s going to cost him. Oprah and Dave have been on the outs ever since he poked fun of her during his Oscar monologue when he hosted the awards show back in 1995. Ever since the snafu, Dave has been wooing Oprah to come on his show, but so far she’s resisted – until now! According to an insider, Dave has secretly offered to make a very generous donation to the charity of Oprah’s choice if she appears on his show. “Dave really wants to make it up to Oprah and he really wants her to guest on his show,” the insider says. Humanitarian Oprah appears to be ready to end the spat, especially if it benefits charity.
