We just heard that their case is settled and Eddie Murphy will be paying Spice Girl Melanie Brown over $40,000 a month for child support for their daughter Angel until she turns 18. You will recall that Eddie and Mel had dated a short time when she announced she was pregnant with his child. Eddie was outraged and felt cheated and manipulated- he demanded a DNA test. The baby proved to be his and they’ve been fighting over money ever since. Eddie and Mel are equally unsympathetic characters. Maybe she did trap him, but he COULD have used a condom. Certainly Mel’s unemployed husband Stephen “Belafonte” will be delighted with this news.

Eddie Murphy is definitely back on the party circuit. He’s been at Area every Monday night and when he’s not flirting with quantities of women, he’s in the company of a certain blonde. Apparently he’s fond of this girl named January and he flew her and his entourage on a private jet to Las Vegas last weekend to celebrate her birthday at Bank at the Bellagio. He gave her all his attention at the club – hey isn’t that Johnny Gill in the white shirt?

Eddie Murphy is back in circulation. Last week on Monday he showed up at Area with a woman who was described as “the Pam Anderson type” only younger. She was chomping gum and blowing bubbles and one observer snickered that it looked like Eddie paid for her company. The following Monday Eddie returned to Area with Shawn Wayans and Arsenio Hall. The guys were described as “energetically pursuing” women. They grabbed the pretty girls who walked past their table and sent a bodyguard to pick up others for them.

We ran into some talkative Teamsters this week who work for the studios and the subject of Eddie Murphy came up. They agreed that he is probably the most demanding and arrogant celebrity they ever worked with. Eddie doesn’t believe in recycling. Every morning when he’s shooting a movie he demands a new set of special underwear and socks with the TAGS still attached. He puts it on, and at the end of the day THROWS IT AWAY. (Nothing is washed and re-used.) His motor home is stocked with toiletries like mouthwash and toothpaste and beverages, etc. EVERYTHING that has been opened is THROWN AWAY at the end of the day. He won’t use an opened bottle of mouthwash! Is he afraid someone will try to poison him or is he just power-mad? Can someone explain this insanity?

An acquaintance of Eddie Murphy has volunteered some info on WHY Eddie appeared to treat Melanie Brown, the mother of his child Angel, so badly. According to the source, Eddie and Melanie never lived together and in fact, only slept together three times. She assured Eddie that she had a coil implanted for contraception. That’s why, when Mel told Eddie she was pregnant, he couldn’t believe he was the father. Eddie had already decided that Melanie wasn’t up to his standards quality-wise. On one of their first dates she hinted that she’d like to have a three-way. And she was a bit loud and flashy at times. Supposedly, their relationship was already over when Melanie told Eddie she was pregnant. When he reacted badly she offered him a deal: she’d leave him alone if he’d give her nine million dollars, a Malibu house, and living expenses for 18 years. Eddie feels like he was conned and never wants to lay eyes on her again so he won’t be visiting their daughter Angel. Eddie figures that when Angel gets older she might try to contact HIM.

The minute we heard that Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds‘ Bora Bora wedding was a “spiritual ceremony” and not really legal, we figured something would go wrong before they had a civil ceremony. And it did – they’ve called off the marriage. The National Enquirer gleefully claims that Eddie and Tracey’s families did NOT get along. Especially their mothers. Eddie’s mother was convinced Tracey was a gold-digger for some reason and Tracey’s mom felt Eddie wasn’t good enough for her daughter. The families reportedly got rather antagonistic on the island. We still think Tracey had second thoughts when Eddie explained that his “best man” Johnny Gill would be living with them.

When Eddie was married to his wife Nicole, he was LORD AND MASTER around the house. According to an employee who worked in his house, persnickety Eddie has strict rules. He expected his beautiful wife Nicole to appear at the breakfast table every day with her makeup and hair DONE, and looking very together. But she was for his eyes only. He instructed every guy who worked at the house – gardeners, repairmen, pool men etc, NOT to look directly at her! Anyone caught staring at Nicole was instantly fired. We’re guessing he’ll have to lighten up on the rules with Tracey. But how does he explain Johnny Gill living in a wing of the house?

Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds quietly split up almost three weeks ago. It happened before DNA proved that Melanie Brown’s baby was Eddie’s. Their biggest problem, besides the fact that Eddie is very controlling, was that they have separate social lives. Eddie likes to socialize with HIS friends and Tracey wanted to socialize with HERS. In order to keep both sets of friends happy, they started going out separately sometimes. But when Eddie goes out, everybody notices and Tracey would hear or read things that made her wonder. And Eddie didn’t trust Tracey out by herself. Suspicions arose and arguments ensued. Tracey’s feared Eddie wanted to run her life. (He can’t be the EASIEST guy to date!) Eddie Murphy has been backed into a corner. Melanie Brown got her wish – Eddie went to Beverly Hills this week and left a DNA sample for his paternity test. Mel has always maintained that Eddie is the father of her little girl. Supposedly Mel went to the same lab for her baby’s test but the appointments were strategically arranged a day apart. Mel walked out of the medical building yesterday looking euphoric and she took little Angel-Iris Murphy Brown to Mr Chow for a triumphant lunch. Lab results are yet to be announced.

Birthdays after forty are never easy, but Eddie Murphy woke up to a double whammy today. Not only did he turn 46, but he might have become a father again, against his will. Eddie’s exgirlfriend Melanie Brown gave birth to a baby girl in Santa Monica just after midnight. She claims Eddie is the father, but Eddie isn’t so sure – he wants a DNA test. The baby hasn’t been named yet – maybe Mel is waiting to see if Eddie has a change of heart and comes to visit them. We think it’s an amazing coincidence that the baby was born on Eddie’s birthday. DNA rules.

Eddie Murphy, shown here with his girlfriend Tracy Edmonds and Jesse Jackson, had an awkward moment last night at the Black Enterprise Top 50 Hollywood Power Brokers event at the Beverly Regent Hotel. It’s the first time Eddie and Tracy have been in the same room with her exhusband Babyface, who USED to be a close friend of Eddie’s! They’re not friendly since Eddie and Tracy hooked up. Other attendees watched with interest as the former buddies reportedly stayed in different corners of the large ballroom at the event, but were very conscious of each other all night.

Why are we not surprised that Eddie Murphy turned DOWN a request by the Academy to sing his Dreamgirls nominated song “Patience” at the Oscars? It would have been a fabulous number if it was anything like the movie. Insiders suspect that Eddie felt insecure about his voice. As much as he loves to sing, he doesn’t have the greatest voice and it requires a lot of doctoring up and enhancing in the studio. A live act might reveal shortcomings so Eddie opted out.

Our friend that works on the Zumanity show in Las Vegas described two distinctly different celebrity visits for us. He said that Sting was the perfect audience member – he was very responsive – laughing and hollering and really enjoying the show out loud. The oddest visitor was Eddie Murphy. Eddie reserved a whole row for himself and a couple of friends. He wore sunglasses and a hat and sat through the entire erotic show with his arms crossed and he never moved. “He looked like a wax dummy!” said our source. “With those glasses, he could have been asleep the whole time!”

A DAY WITH JAMES BROWN

We’re shocked by the sudden loss of James Brown, but we’ll never forget the day we spent with him. It was back in the 60’s in Chicago and we were HUGE fans. When it was announced that he would appear at the Regal theater on the South Side of Chicago, we could hardly wait. The Regal was like the Apollo theater in New York – it catered to the black audience and featured the best musical acts of the era. James Brown always drew long lines. Visions of his shiny tight silk suits, pompadour hair and amazing moves, plus that big orchestra, danced in our heads as we got in line in the rain IN THE MORNING at the Regal. In those days we were the only white people there. Brown performed several shows a day with a movie in between. You paid once and could stay all day! We sat through the movie several times and were able to move up to the front for Brown’s evening show. He did the camel walk and the splits. The audience was shrieking and swooning as he fell to his knees wailing and his cape guy came out and wrapped him up. He tossed his rhinestone cufflinks into the adoring audience and we managed to GRAB one (which we still have to this day.) After the exhausting show, we finagled our way backstage, determined to meet our idol. James couldn’t have been nicer. We were surprised that he was wearing pink foam rollers in his hair – and was about to go under the hair dryer to prepare for his next show. We talked about his silk suits, he introduced us around , offered us food, and gave us an autographed photo before we left. It was an unforgettable day. We expect to see Eddie Murphy at the funeral.
