Ellen Degeneres has been officially hired as the fourth judge on American Idol, leaving Paula Abdul out in the cold, moaning “What did I do wrong?” (Honey, you asked for too much money!) Ellen says she will be “the voice of the common people who are out there watching the show on TV.” But she’s way more than that – Ellen is smart and showbiz savvy and her quick wit will give Simon a run for his money. Finally, producers hired someone who already has a huge following – Ellen will revitalize the ageing series.

Oprah Winfrey has tumbled from five years straight of being rated the most popular TV star – down to number 2. She was knocked off her pedestal by none other than Ellen DeGeneres! Publicist Michael Levine pointed out to us that some organization called The Harris Poll has released the following top ten list of popular TV stars:

Apparently talk show hosts RULE as far as fame and popularity on TV goes. Tyra Banks must be STEAMING because she didn’t make the list. Ellen was #8 last year – we’re wondering if her meltdown over the Iggy incident gave her a boost. And could Oprah’s political involvement have cooled her fans?

Ellen Degeneres update: After a tearful and emotional week, Ellen did NOT show up to tape her show today! This is a rare occurrence! Guests, including Keith Urban, weren’t informed until the last minute. Insiders are saying there is more to this drama than the dog incident that made Ellen cry on camera. They suspect she is having some sort of personal crisis (mid-life?) that involves her home life, not her TV persona. That anxiety might explain her on -camera meltdown after the dog problem.

Ellen Degeneres’ relationship with Portia de Rossi is not as perfect as it used to be. While neither is cheating or anything like that, a friend of the couple says Portia is getting BORED. Her show Arrested Development went off the air last year and Ellen didn’t want her to work – she loves having her available. For awhile, being a lady of leisure was fun, but shopping every day started to get old for Portia. She wants her career back! Ellen’s trying to talk her out of it, and there’s some friction, but they’re trying to come to terms with this.

Money is no object for Ellen Degeneres when it comes to pampering her girlfriend Portia de Rossi. Ellen’s been decorating their lavish new home and while the girls were shopping together, Portia fell in love with a forty thousand dollar couch upholstered with alpaca. Portia moaned about the ultra soft furry feel of the cream colored sofa and couldn’t live without it. (Can’t you just picture the girls cuddling on the couch watching Ellen’s talk show?) Ellen not only had it delivered promptly � she ordered a custom chair to match for $18000.
