AMERICA COULD USE A FEW MORE RYAN GOSLINGS

It’s about time! It took Ryan Gosling declaring the superiority of women to start the discussion going. His honesty – and modesty for a man – is refreshing and very surprising. Ryan was raised in a household of women and he and his girlfriend Eva Mendes have two daughters. He noted that his daughters’ developmental stages far exceeded boys. “I think women are better than men. They are stronger. More evolved. I grew up with women and I’ve always been aware of it.” To our delight, he added “Women are better than men – they make ME better.” And Ryan wants a woman in the White House – “I think America needs a woman’s touch!”

ROSE MCGOWAN KNOWS WHAT SHE’S TALKING ABOUT

Nothing gets past our favorite feminist Rose McGowan. Just three of the 20 films selected for the Cannes Film Festival were directed by women. The festival director said “Don’t blame us “ – implying that the problem is rooted in Hollywood. But Rose isn’t letting them off the hook. She told The Hollywood Reporter “Those 17 who are not women should be forced to walk down the red carpet in high heels!” (Remember the appalling controversy last year in Cannes when women were not PERMITTED on the red carpet in flat shoes!) Rose says “There are so many levels of embedded misogyny that people don’t even realize. It starts with ‘You HAVE to wear high heels’ and goes to ‘We don’t accept you as a filmmaker.’” Hey Rose, when you’re RIGHT, you’re RIGHT…

KATY PERRY IS NOT AS BOLD AS SHE WANTS US TO THINK

Katy Perry donned her handmade “HILLARY CLINTON IS A BAD ASS” t –shirt to entertain at a Hillary Clinton fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall in New York. Katy, 31, is a huge supporter of Cinton, but she’s almost APOLOGETIC about it. She waffles “I’m not voting for her because she’s a woman, I’m voting for her because she’s the right person for the job.” We wonder why Katy (and many women her age) are reluctant to declare they are feminists and want to elect the first female president. (Fear of disapproval?) Being qualified and being a woman are TWO good reasons to vote for Hillary. Being female will be an ASSET for our next president.

GEENA DAVIS COULD LOOK YOUNG FOREVER

146041PCN_StarWarsP#geena

The best way to stay young in Hollywood is to marry a plastic surgeon! The Thelma & Louise star married Dr Reza Jarrahy in 2001 and they have a daughter, 13, and twin sons, 11. When she’s not acting, we’re happy to say that Geena, 59, spends her time campaigning for equal pay for women in Hollywood. She also funded a study revealing that in PG kids movies – there are 3 boys to each girl featured, and the female roles are stereotypically passive. Geena’s pushing for female equality in all areas. It’s sweet that The 6 ft Geena is trying not to look quite so tall next to her husband.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR CAITLYN JENNER: “MOTHER OF THE YEAR?”

AG091339_01cait

Glamour magazine has been scratched off a lot of subscription lists since they named Caitlyn Jenner one of their “2015 Women of the Year.” After the award event, the husband of a female cop killed on 9/11 send BACK his wife’s posthumous award after Glamour gave the SAME award to Jenner. He asked “Was there NO WOMAN in America or the world more deserving than this man?” And we loved him for that. After accepting the award, Caitlyn remarked “The hardest part about being a woman is figuring out what to wear.” This irked many women, among them- Rose McGowan. Rose ranted on Facebook- addressing Caitlyn, she wrote ”You do not understand what being a woman is about at all. We are more than deciding what to wear. We have had a VERY different experience than your life of male privilege. Being a woman comes with a lot of baggage- the weight of unequal history. Woman of the Year! Not by a long shot!” Rose emphasizes that she is NOT transphobic, but like many woman she resents a man putting on high heels and declaring himself female. There’s a LOT MORE to being female. Frankly, we don’t think Caitlyn should have ACCEPTED that honor- we could have admired her for THAT humility.

IT’S YOUR DUTY AS A WOMAN TO SEE “SUFFRAGETTE”

suffragette-10-13CUT

“Suffragette” should be required viewing for all young women. (Those of us who are not so young don’t need to be encouraged – we’ll be there.) Few movies have been made about the grim necessity of the women’s movement because MEN are in charge in Hollywood and they don’t like to be reminded of their despicable behavior. This movie was made BY women (another reason to see it) and it clearly illustrates the fact that until well into the 20th century, women were literally SLAVES with no rights at all, in what passes for CIVILIZED COUNTRIES! (They STILL have no rights in Saudi Arabia and other places -can’t even vote!) Remember what Gloria Steinem said: “Women have to choose – either she’s a feminist or a masochist!” (Above, Cary Mulligan’s character in the sweat shop)

ROSE MCGOWAN TELLS YOU WHAT SHE THINKS

rose Mcgowan and husband davey detailas they walk in tribeca monday afternoon.

Rose McGowan has always had a strong personality and doesn’t hesitate to speak her mind. We love that she’s a feminist and complained that gays aren’t as supportive of women’s rights as they should be. After all, women have always been hugely supportive of gays. She thinks gays are more misogynistic than straight men and she might have a point. Rose was once engaged to Marilyn Manson, but ended up marrying artist Davey Detail two years ago. Above, Davey couldn’t take his eyes off his phone as the pair strolled around Tribeca in New York.

OUR FAVORITE MALE FEMINIST: JUDD APATOW

135550PCN_MTVAjudd

Judd Apatow seems to be the only famous guy in Hollywood coming out STRONG against Bill Cosby, and we love him for it. Not only is he criticizing Whoopi Goldberg for her “he’s innocent until proven guilty” stance in spite of Cosby’s OWN confession. Apatow is also calling out Bill’s wife of over 50 years, Camille Cosby, AND Bill’s TV wife Phylicia Rashad , who have been totally supportive of Cosby and don’t believe the 40 female accusers. Apparently Cosby and his wife have some sort of Clinton agreement between them, but she should remain silent instead of making a fool of herself. We can’t figure out why Phylicia would embarrass herself by supporting Cosby. But Judd IS a feminist dream.

ZOE SALDANA TELLS IT LIKE IT IS

138691PCN_POLAR_35zoecut

Another reason to love Zoe Saldana. She picked the right man to marry. Her progressive husband Marco Perego announced proudly that he has taken his wife’s last name. Perhaps emboldened by her supportive feminist husband, Zoe, who recently gave birth to twins, took the time to point out the fact that pregnant women are not welcome in Hollywood. Actresses with children are rarely offered child care or nannies when working, while men get all kinds of perks – like penthouses, jets, and bodyguards. Keep up the good work, Zoe.

MARISA TOMEI IS PLAYING GLORIA STEINEM FOR HBO

121930PCN_Damarisacut

Now THIS is good news! We’ve been bombarded with biographies of MEN lately (The Theory of Everything, The Imitation Game, American Sniper, etc) and we’ve been WISHING that someone would document Gloria Steinem’s life on film. (She IS one of our idols.) Turns out, HBO is prepping a miniseries, appropriately called “Ms.” and Marisa Tomei will star as Gloria. Perfect casting – beautiful, smart, and likeable. Best of all, Gloria will serve as consultant on the series. She inspired a lot of women and we have never forgotten her quote “We’ve become the men we wanted to marry!”
(Above Marisa Tomei and Daniel Radcliffe filmed a scene for “Trainwreck” surrounded by poodles in a park in NYC.)
