Not everybody is thrilled about Kate Hudson’s romance with Alex Rodriguez. (Above they are pictured leaving The Spotted Pig separately after having dinner.) Some of Kate’s friends feel uncomfortable with the fact that Alex used to date Madonna. Friends that are closer to Madonna certainly don’t want to aggravate HER, so they are unobtrusively distancing themselves from Kate. Mutual friends like Guy Oseary, Demi Moore, and Justin Timberlake, are not socializing with Kate like they used to, simply to avoid rubbing Madonna the wrong way.

One person who has been conspicuously silent about the David Letterman scandal is Bonnie Hunt. Both midwesterners, Bonnie and Dave have been close friends for years – he always appreciated her talent. Back in the 90’s he helped her career enormously by backing two sitcoms for her and he even offered Bonnie the Late, Late Show after Craig Kilborn left. (Bonnie astutely felt she was more the daytime talkshow type.) To his obvious delight, she was a frequent guest on the Letterman show. Naturally that started us thinking that maybe Bonnie was one of Dave’s secret girlfriends. She’s cute and smart – definitely his type.

We loved “Rosemary’s Baby” as much as anyone, but that doesn’t affect our judgment of director Roman Polanski’s rape of a 13 year old girl. Reading the details of the revolting crime simply make it impossible to excuse – even if more than thirty years have passed. The fact that some of his Hollywood friends would choose to support Polanski’s actions is almost as shocking as the illegal act itself. Forgive and forget? Should we forgive Phillip Garrido also because Jaycee didn’t actually “complain” about being kidnapped – and it happened 18 years ago! Maybe if Garrido were a successful Hollywood director, his friends would have petitioned for his freedom too! That same sense of entitlement allowed the Catholic church to get away with abusing children for many years.

If you read Page Six you might remember a recent blind item they printed about secret trysts between a reality star and a well known singer. We are revealing that pair to be John Mayer and “The Hills” star Kristin Cavallari! They have been hooking up secretly at a mutual friend’s house in the Mt Olympus area of the Hollywood Hills for the past two years! Our source says that Kristin was hesitant to date John publicly because she didn’t want to be added to his long list of conquests, and they were both dating other people off and on. Recently their “friends with benefits” relationship has evolved, and they are actually considering going public.

Janet Jackson appears to have renewed her friendship with Jermaine Dupri, judging by this photo of them at the Waverly Inn. They haven’t been together for months. An insider says their relationship isn’t as romantic as it appears. They’re longtime friends, but it’s become more of a convenience. Jermaine continues to go out and date anyone he wants in LA and Atlanta. When he and Janet are both in LA, they travel in completely different circles and go out to clubs with other friends. The insider thinks Janet has “other” interests close to home, and uses Jermaine to distract the press from her private life.

KATHY GRIFFIN HAS PARIS WRAPPED AROUND HER LITTLE FINGER

Why is Paris Hilton hanging out with Kathy Griffin? Two possible reasons: Kathy is filming her reality show and Paris wants some screen time. MADONNA AND GUY RITCHIE: WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU ON?

Madonna has laid out the ground rules of her divorce and they include all the friends that she and Guy Ritchie share. Or DID share. According to the NY Post, Madonna has announced to all their shared friends that they must CHOOSE sides. They cannot continue to be friends with both parties. Among those caught in the middle of the split are Sting and his wife Trudie Styler – who introduced the Ritchies. Also, Sacha Baron Cohen and his wife Isla will have to pick a side. Madonna made this rule because she doesn’t want to share custody, or some other kind of information with a friend, and have it get back to Guy. It’ll be interesting to see who walks away with which friends.

VICTORIA BECKHAM AND KATE BECKINSALE: BIRDS OF A FEATHER

Victoria Beckham is a big personality and a powerful influence on her friends. She and Kate Beckinsale have gotten very chummy, and Kate ’s other friends are worried that Posh might be a bad influence. They say “Kate is getting so skinny that her clothes are falling off of her.” Posh’s minimal eating habits might be rubbiing off on Kate, who is already thin, and once had a problem with anorexia. Victoria gave Kate some of her dVb jeans and is also urging Kate to bob her long hair and she’s considering the idea. (Didn’t Katie Holmes just go through all this?) Apparently, Victoria just can’t resist making over her friends.

Earlier this week Victoria Beckham planned to fly in to LA to attend a birthday party for a stylist friend of hers. During the party, which took place at Goa, she called and apologetically said she’d be late because her flight was delayed. When Victoria finally landed, she dressed in a hurry and rushed to Goa, but found it was closed and the party was over! It was 3 AM but she had no intention of missing her friend’s special day, so she dashed over to his house to personally wish the surprised guy a happy birthday and present him with a gift.

It’s ABOUT time! The female stars of Friends are always having get-togethers – especially at Il Sole. But it seems like Lisa Kudrow is never included – it’s just Jen and Courteney all the time. So it’s really nice to see Lisa out with Courteney, catching up on all the news. We like to think the girls from the show really ARE friends. Note that Courteney is taking half of her food home. We think Lisa looks pretty, but was better dressed when she was on the show- she looks a little “momish” here.
