Another reason to love Anne Hathaway (as if “The Devil Wears Prada” weren’t enough.) The “Valentines Day” star told British GQ that she and her family left the Catholic church because of their intolerance of homosexuality. When her beloved older brother Michael came out, the family turned Episcopalian. That didn’t work out so well either, but it’s great to see such a supportive family.

Just when we thought we’d made some progress in this town, English actor Rupert Everett has announced that gay actors should NOT “come out” in Hollywood because it will end their careers. Rupert, 50, made a big splash in “Dance With A Stranger” with Miranda Richardson in 1985 and came out as gay in 1989. He says that since then, he’s had no leads in movies – only supporting roles. Rupert insists “You cannot be a 25 year old homosexual and make it in the film business anywhere.” Everett went on to play supporting roles as “gay best friend” to Madonna in “The Next Best Thing” and Julia Roberts in “My Best Friend’s Wedding” (above photo.) Rupert admits he’s probably happier than closeted actors, but not as successful.

Just when we thought we’d seen more than enough of The Newlywed Game to last a lifetime, we learned that the show is looking for gay celebrity couples to appear on the series! Now THAT sounds like fun! The Newlywed Game, hosted by Carnie Wilson, is on the Game Show Network. They’re taping episodes with celebrity couples and are actively pursing GAY celebrity couples. So far Ellen and Portia have turned them down, but Star Trek’s George Takei and his husband Brad Altman agreed to play the game.

Why Elijah Wood is continuously accused of being gay is a mystery, but he doesn’t gripe about it – or threaten to sue like Tom Cruise. He finds it amusing, and so do we, since he’s been with his girlfriend Pamela Racine for YEARS now. She’s the drummer for the punk band Gogol Bordello and she’s got a few inches on the diminutive “Lord of the Rings” star. Above, they’re enjoying a walk in the New York summer weather.

It was quite a surprise to see that The Advocate gave a better review to “I Love You Beth Cooper” than it gave to “Bruno.” Does that mean the gay community doesn’t embrace “Bruno?” It would be a shame because “Bruno” IS the funniest scream-out-loud movie since “Borat.” Sacha Baron Cohen makes fun of EVERYONE and reactions to his outrageous character are priceless. We are still amazed that those Deliverance-type hunters even KNEW what “Sex & The City” was. Sacha is a brave man.

Sacha Baron Cohen walked INTO the Letterman show in New York looking like his normal dashing self, but he walked OUT afterward in full “Bruno” drag. Apparently he gave himself a radical “gay” makeover in the dressing room. This is the first time we’ve seen him NOT dressed like Bruno in quite awhile. It must be a relief for his fiance Isla Fisher. (We can hardly WAIT to see the movie.)

The fact that “The Tudors” star Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Donatella Versace went to a White House dinner event together will no doubt reignite that speculation about his sexual preference. Actually, these two have more than fashion in common, they both have battled substance abuse problems – maybe they are staying sober together.

While Madonna’s in Africa negotiating for her next child, her brother Christopher Ciccone is partying in South Beach. Christopher wrote the fascinating book “Life With My Sister Madonna” and they’ve been on the outs ever since. Chris is friendly with South Beach’s most popular drag queen, Elaine Lancaster and she threw the gay event called “Asseteria” at the Aerobar there, where Chris was the celebrity guest.

Paula Abdul got caught at the airport getting on a flight to Cancun and she needed a little help keeping her balance. Must be the shoes. She’s with a guy who has been identified by readers as Jimmy Demers, and he’s NOT a boyfriend. In fact, he’s an old friend of hers from the 80’s who is described as a really good singer and he happens to be gay. That means she’ll definitely have fun on THIS vacation.
