YOU WON’T CATCH MADONNA WEARING A BORING EVENING GOWN

Thank heavens for Madonna’s sense of humor. She was the only major celebrity to really dress up in a rock n roll inspired costume at The Grammys. Everyone else seemed to think it was a very formal and conservative red carpet and they wore traditional long gowns and cocktail dresses. Did they FORGET it’s all about the music and anything goes? Looks like Madonna was a little bit S&M and a little bit bullfighter in this naughty get-up. (We can imagine Lourdes in her dorm at the University of Michigan watching her mother on the Grammys)

BEYONCE WASN’T SATISFIED WITH JAY-Z’S PERFORMANCE

Beyonce is still a PERFECTIONIST and sometimes a stern taskmaster. She and Jay-Z have the honor of opening the Grammy show tonight with their nominated song Part II (On the Run) and she wants it to be flawless. During the final dress rehearsal of their song, Beyonce thought Jay’s performance just wasn’t up to par. According to a witness, she pushed him to do it over and over until he got it RIGHT. And he did!

“Girls” creator Lena Dunham looked very excited to meet Taylor Swift at The Grammys and we wonder if the two had time to chat about their experiences with men. Lena has been enjoying a steady relationship with musician Jack Antonoff, and she was thrilled when his band Fun. won two Grammys. Taylor appears to be between boyfriends at the moment.

Grammys Prince Vision Impaired

PRINCE DOESN’T NEED HELP CROSSING THE STREET

For some reason, Prince decided it would be a good idea to wear dark glasses and a white cane to the Grammys. Maybe he hoped for handicapped parking or special attention, but the combination made him look like a blind person. (We can just picture people scrambling to “help” him down the stairs) Granted, the cane was sparkly as was his black hooded jacket, but the first thing that comes to mind is “vision impaired.” As far as we know, Prince’s vision is just fine – except it fails him occasionally when he gets dressed.

FINALLY, RIHANNA MAKES A GOOD DECISION

Despite all the ill-conceived decisions Rihanna has been making lately, she managed to out maneuver all the other creative and glamorous women the Grammys when she collaborated with designer Azzedine Alaia. Her custom gown is the right color, fits like a dream, and gives her new sophistication. Perfection. But it doesn’t change the fact that she’s back with Chris Brown.

Yup, Katy Perry probably had the worst dress of the night at the Grammys. She looks like a blue haired Pasadena matron. This plain long blue dress would be more appropriate on a mature woman than a pop star. But the evening was not a failure, Katy came to her senses and changed her gown, and she and best buddy Rihanna had a nice reunion. They had a falling out when Katy was married because Russell Brand thought Rihanna was too wild and a bad influence on his wife. Now the girls can have fun again.

Kim Kardashian is obviously on the prowl for a new man because she wore a ridiculously low cut dress. (Why is she at this music event, anyway?) She stopped to chat with Britney Spears who looked rather plain next to Kim.

Christina Aguilera falls down more than any celebrity we can think of – except perhaps Snooki from Jersey Shore. But she does it in nice places – like the Super Bowl when she was singing the national anthem, onstage at the Grammys, and various Hollywood nightclubs. Most recently she took a tumble leaving a posh club in London and fortunately her strapping young boyfriend Matt Rutler, 26, is always there to help her up.

SLIMMER ARETHA FRANKLIN STILL WON’T DISCUSS HER SURGERY

Aretha Franklin’s taped message on the Grammys revealed that she has lost a considerable amount of weight. She still refuses to discuss her hospitalization and surgery a few months ago, so speculation never stops. At first it was assumed she had lap-band surgery to lose weight, but the rumor that she had surgery for pancreatic cancer began to circulate. Either would cause weight loss. Aretha is strangely reluctant to reveal her health issue but she did say “Doctors believe my surgery will add 15 to 20 years to my life.” We hope so.

Men’s fashion is often ignored at red carpet events because women are so much more extravagant, but we have selected our Best Dressed Man and it is definitely NOT Justin Bieber. Justin looks like he rented a suit for a prom in Indiana. Geekorama! On the other hand, Taboo, (real name Jaime Gomez) the rapper from Black Eyed Peas, in his own subtle way, out-dressed all the other guys. He obviously knows fashion. He also took the red carpet opportunity to promote his new autobiography “Fallin” Up.” This Boyle Heights homeboy has come a long way.
