The bloom is off the rose for Hilary Duff, 26, and her husband Mike Comrie, 33. It’s funny how sports stars can lose their appeal when they quit playing. After Mike retired from playing NHL hockey, he gained weight and grew a beard and just didn’t seem as hot as he used to be. Hilary was young and impressionable when they met and they did have a baby boy Luca together, but their marriage only lasted three years. (Above, they looked bored together six weeks ago)

CAN YOU PICTURE HILARY DUFF AS BONNIE PARKER?

Hilary Duff is VERY happily married to hockey player Mike Comrie – SO happy that she’s taking his last name! Is that a good business decision? We were somewhat horrified to learn that Hilary is starring in a remake of the excellent movie “Bonnie and Clyde.” Hilary plays Bonnie Parker, the role originated by Faye Dunaway, and Kevin Zegers is Clyde Barrow, the part played by Warren Beatty. At the time this film was so influential that fashion changed overnight and Bonnie’s 1930’s bias cut long skirts and berets were knocked off by designers everywhere. Is it really necessary to remake this iconic film?

She probably never looked at it this way but Hilary Duff married a man physically much older than his 29 years. Mike Comrie battles pain every day – he’s been banged up and injured so many times playing rough hockey (an occupational hazard) that he has to use some kind of machine before he goes to sleep at night to “freeze” his muscles and alleviate pain so he can sleep. Mike’s back, legs and arms have been injured. He takes medication all the time and has regular physical therapy sessions. He’s been benched a lot due to injuries. Hilary will have to get used to the fact that when you marry a hockey player, you keep lots of ice packs in the refrigerator.

Mike Comrie knows how to sweep a girl off her feet. Hilary Duff was usually the bigger breadwinner in her previous romances and she finally has a guy who can more than keep up with her. Mike gave Hillary a hundred thousand dollar Mercedes for her birthday, so it figures he’d give her an million dollar engagement ring (12 karats with a 1 karat stone on each side. It was custom made by a jeweler named Leroy in Las Vegas) The Edmonton Oiler hockey player comes from a wealthy family, so Hilary has never has to pick up the check. The contented pair is now looking at ten million dollar houses in Beverly Hills.

If we were Hilary Duff, we’d complain about this dress she’s been given to wear on “Gossip Girl.” The girls on the show usually have such cool outfits, and this drapey black and gold cocktail dress really does NOTHING for Hilary. She’s appearing on several episodes, and maybe they want her character to look older. She was seen shopping in Barneys over the weekend and this dress definitely didn’t come from THAT store. Above, Hilary filmed a scene where the cast attended a screening at Ziegfeld Cinemas in New York.

Hilary Duff just had her eyes checked in Toluca Lake, and judging by the way she’s dressed, she needed it. Her choice of a wooly thick winter scarf and a white tank top is a peculiar combination indeed. She does look smarter with the glasses on, though. We wonder if Hilary ever completed those online courses from Harvard University?

Finally, it looks like Hilary Duff has a new boyfriend. When she split with her first real love Joel Madden last year, she needed time to recover. Joel, of course immediately hooked up with Nicole Richie, and that was a REAL jolt to Hilary. She’s found a really nice guy and he’s not too tall for the petite actress/singer. He’s Mike Comrie, who plays for the NY Islanders hockey team, and comes from a wealthy Canadian family that owns a chain of Home Depot type stores in Canada. Hilary is a huge hockey fan and they were introduced by mutual friends just a week or two ago. They’ve already bonded over jet skis in Idaho and dinner at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica last night.
