IGGY POP: STILL A REAL WILD CHILD

Here’s a performer who has changed his act very little over the past decades. Iggy Pop, 76, continues the gymnastics and posturing onstage with his shirt off the same way he did back in the 80’s. In those days he performed with The Stooges and they were the height of punk. Iggy has outlasted most of his contemporaries (he collaborated with David Bowie) and he’s featured here singing Lust for Life onstage in Marbella, Spain last week.

IGGY POP STILL HAS A “LUST FOR LIFE”

We didn’t realize that the “Godfather of Punk” Iggy Pop, 72, had such a bombshell for a third wife. She’s Nina Alu, 49, a former flight attendant, and they were married in 2008. Last year, for some reason, Iggy signed over his five million dollar Coconut Grove mansion to his wife. Iggy, who still performs topless, kept his sheer shirt on when the couple attended the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London.

DOES IGGY POP LOOK LIKE JENNIFER ANISTON’S EVIL OLDER BROTHER?

The Godfather of Punk, Iggy Pop, got the crowd riled up with I Wanna Be Your Dog in the UK when he performed with The Queens of the Stone Age for 50,000 people at Finley Park. His stage gyrations haven’t changed all that much in spite of the fact that Iggy is 71. Not only is he still doing concerts, but he’s married to a hot young former flight attendant. Despite his maniacal stage persona, Iggy has always had a special appreciation for women, including his mother. We had to laugh when someone commented that Iggy “looks like Jennifer Aniston’s evil older brother.”

IGGY POP STILL HAS A LUST FOR LIFE

You’ve gotta give punk rocker Iggy Pop credit for being courageous and performing shirtless at the age of 70. And watch out because he might surprise you with a stage dive! He’s still touring constantly and above, he’s performing in France. A movie was almost made in 2010 about Iggy and The Stooges early years, starring, of all people, Elijah Wood, but it never happened. Last we heard, Iggy was also dabbling in jazz.

IT’S 1977, AND IGGY POP AND DAVID BOWIE ARE ON THE DINAH SHORE SHOW!!!

Iggy Pop & David Bowie – The Dinah! Show – Complete – 1977 from Nacho's Productions on Vimeo.

Wow – our brainy and obsessive friends at Dangerous Minds excavated this fascinating video from 1977 of Iggy Pop and David Bowie introducing punk rock to talk show host Dinah Shore and her other guest Rosemary Clooney. Video quality varies back and forth, but Iggy and David perform at the beginning and end of the segment so it’s worth hanging in there. Band members include Tony Sales and Hunt Sales – sons of Soupy Sales. David chainsmokes through the whole interview.

IGGY POP AND JIM JARMUSCH HAVE A HISTORY TOGETHER

Here’s a pair of characters you might not expect to see at the Cannes Film Festival. Iggy Pop and filmmaker Jim Jarmusch could easily be chatting about the drugs they used to do back in the 80’s, as they prepare for a discussion about their new documentary Gimme Danger. Directed by Jarmusch, the film documents the rise of Iggy’s punk band The Stooges, starting in the 60’s. We were surprised to see that Iggy has one built up shoe – he says one leg is a couple inches shorter than the other and his reckless stage antics didn’t help it. Iggy says his drug days are over, but threatened to appear at the red carpet gala later with no shirt.

JOHN VARVATOS STORE ATTRACTS THE CREAM OF ROCK N ROLL

125365PCN_Varvatos18cut

John Varvatos must love old rock stars. The designer, who has a very successful shop in West Hollywood, opened his first European store in London and it was like the history of rock n roll. Jimmy Page, Ringo Starr, and Iggy Pop all looked like they were having a good time and held up their fingers in that strange way that men feel compelled to do. Ringo never seems to change.
