MORE BARBIES THAN WE EVER IMAGINED

There’s an estate sale happening in Los Angeles this weekend and we saw lots of advance photos of the stuff on sale- this was a Barbie doll collector! We had NO idea there were SO many Barbies of SO many kinds produced over the years! Some are even copies of dead movie stars. How about Barbie Loves Elvis? Or James Dean in his red jacket? Little did we know there was a Harley-Davidson Barbie doll! And how about Barbie and Ken dressed for a Star Trek mission! The collection also has Barbie through the years- above you can see  Barbie in the Fabulous Forties and she has rolled hair and shoulder pads. We love them ALL! And none of these dolls have ever been played with- that’s almost a shame…

LOIS SMITH DID A SCREEN TEST WITH JAMES DEAN FOR EAST OF EDEN

Lois Smith, 86 has had six decades of acting history and she has a new movie at Sundance called Marjorie Prime. But we were delighted to hear that she also has a 60 year old video on YouTube of her and James Dean doing a screen test for East of Eden. It’s a silent video and James and Lois are evidently being told by someone off-screen to turn around, get closer etc, but it’s still fascinating. In her new movie at Sundance, Lois plays a widow with a failing memory and her family arranges to have a hologram of her beloved late husband (as he was 40 years ago) played by Jon Hamm, keep her company.

OUR FAVORITE OF JAMES DEAN’S LAST PHOTOS

It was a jolt to come across this photo of James Dean that Tom O’Neil posted on Facebook – it was one of the last taken before Dean’s fatal car accident. He’s filling up the tank of his Porsche and we love seeing a sunny Los Angeles gas station in the 50’s. Not to mention that Cadillac! Those were the full service days when the attendant washed your windshield and checked your oil after pumping your gas. Dean was just 24 and had only owned the car for 9 days before his death. Would a seat belt have saved his life? It’s a sad reminder of Paul Walker’s tragic accident.

THIS IS OUR RESPONSE TO KANYE WEST’S COMMENT THAT “COOL PEOPLE DON’T SMILE”

aec-james-dean-2cut

Is anyone cooler than James Dean? A smirk is as good as a smile. Kanye West needs more than a thuggish scowl to make himself cool. It’s funny how his wife Kim Kardashian took his advice and stopped smiling so she could be cool too.

ROB PATTINSON’S CHARACTER IS IN PURSUIT OF JAMES DEAN

113426PCN_Robert06cut

When we heard that Rob Pattinson was filming a movie called “Life” about a Life magazine photographer assigned to shoot James Dean back in the early 50’s , we figured that Rob might be playing Dean. (He’s got the right hair) But no, he’s playing the photographer, and they are filming now in Toronto. A young actor named Dane De Haan, who looks nothing like him, is playing Dean. Rob isn’t as sexy with 50’s hair. His friend Caitlin Cronenberg (daughter of director David), a photographer he’s worked with on several movies, paid Rob a visit and everybody jumped to conclusions that they are an item. It’s not likely—she just got married six months ago.

IS JAMES FRANCO LIVING UP TO EXPECTATIONS?

James Franco made a fierce and lasting impression when he debuted as James Dean back in 2001, but has he lived up to his promise? Granted he’s expanded his repertoire – he’s been a graduate student, a published writer, a director of documentaries, a teacher. A real jack of all trades. But his acting career is somewhat disappointing – with the exception of Milk and 127 Hours (which we couldn’t bear to watch.) Now he’s starring in “Oz: the Great and Powerful” and it’s nothing to brag about. Can someone give James a decent script?

ONCE UPON A TIME, ANDY WARHOL LOOKED LIKE JAMES DEAN

Photo via: The WOW Report

We never thought we’d see a photograph of Andy Warhol where he in any way resembled James Dean, but here it is. In this rare photo, youthful Andy must have been freshly graduated from Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, and in New York doing magazine illustrations. Little did he know that someday his paintings would sell for 100 million dollars.

ROB PATTINSON HAS A FAMILIAR LOOK IN “WATER FOR ELEPHANTS”

Seeing Rob Pattinson in this period movie “Water For Elephants” reminds us of James Dean in “East of Eden.” We’re thinking, that since James Franco bought the rights to Sal Mineo’s life story, he might want to think about casting Rob as Dean, who played a big part in Mineo’s world.

JAMES DEAN: MORE THAN YOU EVER NEEDED TO KNOW

This is the trailer for the new movie “Joshua Tree, 1951: A Portrait of James Dean.” James Preston, who plays Luke Ford on the vampire show “The Gates” plays Dean. (We fondly remember James Franco as James Dean.) It’s apparent that this movie is playing up the rumors that Dean was gay or bisexual. Somehow, as much as we loved James Dean, the gay angle isn’t going to make us want to run out and see this movie.

BARBARA WALTERS HAS A CRUSH ON ROB PATTINSON

At first it was a toss-up to decide which of The View women had the biggest crush on Rob Pattinson when he guested on their show today to promote “Remember me.” The ladies were dolled up and on their best and most coy behavior. They could barely contain their smiles and shy glances. But Barbara Walters definitely seemed most smitten. Not only did she compare Rob to James Dean (which is as good as it gets from her era – or ANY era for that matter) When Joy remarked about his looks and asked Barbara for her opinion, Barbara cooed “You already KNOW what I think.”
