TRACE CYRUS IS STILL CHANNELLING JOEY RAMONE

Every day Trace Cyrus reminds us more and more of Joey Ramone. Which is not a bad thing for his career, since it sets him far apart from his famous relatives Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus. His band Metro Station is a MySpace sensation and touring and making money. We were a little surprised by his flirtation with 16 year old Disney girl Demi Lovato, and even MORE surprised to hear that he’s collaborating on a song with Miley. So much for street cred. But he seems like the coolest one in the family.

JOHNNY AND JOEY RAMONE AT THE TROPICANA MOTOR HOTEL

Flashback: We just LOVE this 1976 photo by Brad Elterman of The Ramones in front of what used to be the Tropicana Motor Hotel in West Hollywood. In the photo you can see Joey and Johnny at their rockstar peak. The Tropicana was rock n roll central in those days. Everybody stayed there and the management seemed to turn a blind eye to noise, drugs, booze, groupies, and loud music. Also Duke’s Coffee Shop was connected to the hotel and somebody famous – like Tom Waits - was always there recovering from a hangover.

SINCE WHEN ARE DOC MARTENS POLITICALLY CORRECT ?
Filed Under: Courtney Love > Dr Martens > Joe Strummer > Joey Ramone > Kurt Cobain > Sid Vicious
Why are these Dr Martens dead rock star ads causing such an uproar? We think using dead rockers lounging in heaven in their Doc Martens is a brilliant idea. Offensive? These guys- Joe Strummer, Sid Vicious, Joey Ramone, and Kurt Cobain, THRIVED on being offensive when they were alive. That’s why we loved them. And they DID wear Doc Martens. The ads simply state “Dr Martens. Forever.” What’s so offensive about THAT? Granted, Cobain’s widow Courtney Love is disgruntled because British copyright laws who’t allow her to collect any money for this. THAT’s why she griped that the ad was in bad taste. We are really steamed at the cowardly Doc Martens CEO, David Suddens, who caved in to Love and GROVELED and apologized for his “tasteless” blunder, and pulled the ads. Then he FIRED the ad agency (Saatchi & Saatchi London) responsible for this brilliant campaign. What’s WRONG with these Dr Martens people?
