JARED LETO KNOWS HOW TO PLAY AN ECCENTRIC DESIGNER

The first time Jared Leto met Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld he quipped “One day I have to play you in a movie!” Karl responded “Only you, darling, only you.” Jared proved he wasn’t kidding when he agreed to play the late Lagerfeld in a film about his life this week. Years ago, we were thrilled to be invited for a small dinner at Mr Chow in Beverly Hills for Karl Lagerfeld. That was back when the flamboyant designer was heavier and he wore black silk caftans accessorized with a fan. He proved to be quite entertaining and a friendly dinner companion. In 2001, he lost over 90 pounds so he could fit into slim suits that he accessorized with stiff white collar shirts, black gloves, and the ever-present Diet Coke. So Jared will be going through quite a transformation for the role- much like he did in House of Gucci.

KARL LAGERFELD: THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

Karl Lagerfeld, the King of Fashion, who once described himself as a “fashion nymphomaniac” (we can relate to that) has died, and we will miss him. This is a man who loved his cat Choupette SO much that he said he’d marry her, if it were legal. Years ago, when Karl was still overweight and wearing caftans and gesturing with fans, we were part of a group having dinner with him at Mr Chow in Beverly Hills. How a tabloid reporter got mixed up with that crowd we don’t recall, but we do remember being pleasantly surprised by how witty and entertaining Karl turned out to be. We always followed Karl’s advice “Don’t drink and wear stilettos” and who knows how many social disasters we avoided…

PARIS JACKSON: THE WORLD IS HER RUNWAY

Oh, and while Paris Jackson is in Paris, France, she happens to have a job – as the face of Chanel for Karl Lagerfeld’s new ad campaign! And so it begins… Paris is ready to explore all her opportunities – modeling, acting, whatever. It’s the best thing that’s happened to her – she’s socializing with successful, artistic people and that may help her find a direction in life. And she’s literally starting at the TOP! Paris’s modeling career commenced today with a photoshoot featuring American soldiers and an army jeep in front of the Eiffel Tower. (Her boyfriend must be getting nervous.)

WILLOW SMITH IS 15 AND ALREADY HAS MORE THAN ONE CAREER

Willow Smith has to be one of the luckiest celebrity spawn alive. She’s 15 and already has established a singing career and a modeling career! She appeared in a Marc Jacobs fashion campaign last year and this year she is Karl Lagerfeld’s muse – he loves her style. Karl personally selected Willow as brand ambassador for the Chanel eyewear campaign. Karl likes ‘em young – last year’s ambassador was Lily-Rose Depp, now 17. We don’t know how Willow’s music career is going, but she’s a big hit in the fashion world. Just one thing- is she a Scientologist? One more – will she get an education?

EVEN GWYNETH PALTROW CAN’T SAVE THIS DOWDY CHANEL OUTFIT

Gwyneth Paltrow turned up at the Chanel Spring/Summer couture show at Paris Fashion Week in this matronly two piece suit. Karl Lagerfeld MUST have given it to her to wear to the event and she couldn’t say no. We can’t IMAGINE Gwyneth picking this out for herself. The square cut and stiff fabric along with the box pleated long skirt make Gwyneth look around 20 pounds heavier and when she sees these photos we bet she will privately vow NOT to take Lagerfeld’s advice all the time.

Leave it to Karl Lagerfeld to design a clever pair of alligator boots that add up to four inches of height to the wearer! There are plenty of men in Hollywood who would purchase these in a minute. Karl and a friend were looking at magazines at a newsstand in St Tropez when we took a close look at his feet in this photo. Clearly his boots are built up considerably on the inside, and the outside heel is substantial too. We’re ON to your little secret, Karl!

WEALTHY FRENCH CELEBRITIES IRATE OVER 75% INCOME TAX ARE LEAVING!

We can’t help but wonder if there will be a mass exodus of celebrities and other wealthy citizens in France because their new 75% wealth tax starts next year. Anyone earning over $1.3 million is subject to the new tax and these taxpayers are outraged. (And we thought WE had it bad here!) Iconic actor Gerard Depardieu loudly attacked the government for the new tax and announced he is moving to Belgium. He was heavily criticized by politicians and the media. Karl Lagerfeld also voiced his anger and we can imagine many in the fashion industry are also upset. Alain Delon and Johnny Hallyday successfully relocated out of the country under the radar.

ADELE HAD NO PROBLEM KEEPING HER PREGNANCY A SECRET FOR SEVEN MONTHS

A lot of fuss has been made over Adele’s weight in the past year. Karl Lagerfeld famously remarked that the 24 year old singer was “a little too fat- but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.” It was not a kind thing to say, but it was absolutely true. The singer has always been defensive about her size saying “I’ve never wanted to look like a model on the cover of a magazine. I represent the majority of women and I’m proud of that.” (We don’t believe THAT for a minute!) This was followed by rumors of Adele hiring a trainer, taking pilates, and becoming a vegetarian. Magazines tracked every pound lost and gained. It’s hard to have your weight struggles observed by so many. If Adele doesn’t think she’s too heavy she should ponder this: for seven months NO ONE noticed she was pregnant! That fact speaks for itself.
