PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED IS WORTH REVISITING
We came across this photo of young Nicolas Cage and Jim Carrey on Instagram and realized it was from a 1986 film we loved – Peggy Sue Got Married. (Named after the Buddy Holly song) Kathleen Turner starred as a woman about to be divorced who faints at her 25 year high school reunion and wakes up in 1960 when she was a high school senior. (This was filmed before Kathleen got that deep voice) Frances Ford Coppola directed the sweet and adorable story and he urged his nephew Nicolas Cage to play the part of Kathleen’s HS sweetheart. Cage’s performance can only be described as weird, but Kathleen got an Oscar nomination. Years later, when Kathleen wrote her autobiography she admitted that she wasn’t fond of Cage and accused him of having two DUIs and kidnapping a chihuahua while filming Peggy Sue. Outraged, he denied all and took her to court and won the case – she had to publicly apologize!
Posh Beverly Hills hotels are loaded with celebrities and out-of-towners during award season. A recent elevator ride at The four Seasons proved amusing. Tim Allen got on the first floor elevator and it filled up with children, visitors, and employees. As the packed lift slowly rode a little girl remarked to her mom “It’s crowded in here!” From the back of the elevator Tim piped up “That’s because it’s MY elevator!” The mother turned to look at him and gasped with recognition, and other riders laughed. When the ride reached the 8th floor there was a slightly haggard looking woman in black tights wearing a lot of makeup. She looked at the crowd and said, in a VERY deep and familiar voice “I think I’ll wait for the next elevator!” the door closed and people suddenly realized it was almost unrecognizable Kathleen Turner! (currently doing Virginia Woolf onstage in LA) The little girl asked her mom “Why didn’t she get on?” From the back Tim joked “Because it’s MY elevator!” It was a fun ride.
