The subject of Larry King came up at dinner tonight and suddenly a light bulb lit up. Someone suggested that PERHAPS the Mormon sisters Shawn and Shannon have been in cahoots all the time and taking Larry for all he’s worth. That maybe Shannon seduced Larry into giving her all sorts of gifts and in turn he had to shower Shawn with gifts to make up for his guilt! Larry was happy having two pretty blondes at his disposal and the sisters were both well taken care of. Just an idea, but…..stranger things have happened.

LARRY KING GAVE HIS WIFE’S SISTER TOO MANY DIAMONDS

What Larry King doesn’t know is that his wife Shawn is not so furious about his fooling around with her own SISTER as she is furious about the GIFTS that Larry gave the sister. A few years ago Larry went to Barneys, where he often shopped with his wife, and he bought a $10,000 diamond necklace. He told the salesperson “Don’t tell my wife!” The clerk assumed that he wanted to SURPRISE Shawn. The surprise came a few weeks later when Shawn’s sister Shannon RETURNED the necklace for store credit and happily went shopping upstairs in the designer department for stuff she REALLY wanted! Larry’s not as smart as he thinks. Shawn happened to see the purchase on the charge bill and put 2 and 2 together. Which is worse – having a cheating husband or a sister who stabs you in the back?

This is Larry King’s 12 million dollar house in Beverly Hills that his wife Shawn will most likely get in their divorce. The Tuscan style home has 9500 sq ft, 7 bedrooms and 9 baths. Larry selected this place because he can walk to Nate n’ Al’s deli for breakfast with his cronies every morning. According to TMZ, Larry called the cops this morning because paparazzi were waiting outside and he couldn’t leave for breakfast. So Nate N’ Al delivered his food. And the waitresses there have been warned not to talk about their steady customer.

DIVORCE MYSTERY: HOW DID LARRY KING’S MARRIAGE LAST THIS LONG?

To tell you the truth, we’re GLAD to see that Larry King, 76, and his wife Shawn Southwick, 50, are divorcing after 13 years together. Actress/singer Shawn happens to be a surprisingly nice person who put her own career on hold to take care of Larry, their two sons, and their home. Larry never seemed to realize how incredibly LUCKY he was to have her, because he’s so wrapped up in his own important self. It was all about Larry all the time. We also heard he did some fooling around behind her back. It IS surprising that Larry filed FIRST. Hopefully some juicy details will emerge.

NOT EVERYBODY AT NATE N’ AL’S DELI IS CRAZY ABOUT LARRY KING

When you walk into Nate n’ Al’s deli in Beverly Hill you can’t help but notice a pile of Larry King’s books for sale at the counter. Larry is a regular for breakfast almost every day and yes, this is the place where he had a screaming match with his wife Shawn and she ran out and he chased her down the street yelling. (The marriage survived.) Judging by the publicity he gets the place, one would think Larry is beloved, but that’s not necessarily so. He has a booth he prefers and if it’s not available immediately, he gets very grouchy. One staffer whispered “He thinks he IS a king – he’s demanding and not pleasant.” And, oh yes, selling the books there was HIS idea.

Frankly, we’ve always wondered how pretty Shawn Southwick managed to wake up every day and see Larry King’s face on the next pillow. Now we know. Since she just entered rehab to get a grip on her addiction to painkillers (for migraines) it looks like she was nicely sedated for much of their wedded bliss. Painkillers tend to make it easier to put up with certain things. Just how will Shawn view her May – December marriage after she leaves rehab with clear senses?

LARRY KING CAN'T SIT STILL

Sometimes sitting near a celebrity in the movies is fun, sometimes it’s not. Our spy went to The Grove theater to see Hairspray last Saturday (the busiest night of the week) and found Larry King and his wife saving a number of seats in a choice row. Shawn sweetly pointed out one empty seat for our spy. AFTER the movie started, Larry got up several times, went to the lobby, and brought people back to their saved seats, disturbing others in the audience. Larry’s group did lots of whispering. One woman in his party text messaged throughout the movie and got up and left several times. Our spy said “She couldn’t have seen more than 15 minute of the film.” When Hairspray was over, Larry and friends walked out singing its praises.

DID LARRY KING BELIEVE WHAT PARIS HILTON TOLD HIM?

How about an Emmy nomination for Larry King? We think he deserves one for not falling off his chair when Paris Hilton told him she didn’t do drugs and has never tried them. Such a blatant lie would have caused most interviewers to gasp involuntarily or at least laugh out loud. But our Mr King proceeded without a hiccup – he never challenged her claim or lost his composure!

LARRY KING: GOING UP?

For YEARS Larry King has taped his TV show at the CNN building on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. But if you ask other people who work in the building what Larry’s like, they say they have never encountered him. How is that possible? It was explained that when Larry arrives every day, his “assistants” (usually eager-to-please young women) run ahead of him and shoo everyone OUT of the elevator SO HE CAN RIDE ALONE – both coming and going. Apparently Larry feels he’s above making small talk with strangers in the elevator.
