DADDY’S HOME 2 – ONCE WAS ENOUGH

Sorry to say Daddy’s Home 2 is nowhere as entertaining as the first one – and the first one was merely tolerable. The idea of dad vs stepdad was interesting the first time around, despite the lack of subtlety and overacting by Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. The second movie is like the first, but on STEROIDS. Bigger budget, worse script, cornier acting, and more special effects. Will Ferrell falls down a lot, but never gets hurt. Mel Gibson’s stereotypical character was a poorly written obnoxious bully – not a good comeback. Mark Wahlberg looked appropriately embarrassed much of the time – so did the audience…

MARK WAHLBERG FLOSSES HIS TEETH IN PUBLIC

Yes, dentists DO recommend flossing as often as possible, but IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET? Mark Wahlberg is filming Transformers: The Last Knight on the streets of Detroit and today he had a hasty salad lunch. While the cast and crew stood around him waiting, Wahlberg carefully flossed his teeth for the whole world to see. Maybe he’s setting an example for his kids.

“DADDY’S HOME” IS SMARTER AND FUNNIER THAN “SISTERS”

Daddys-Home-new-pos#2Ccut

Wanna take a break from the holidays and have a few laughs this week? Head to your local movie theater and see “Daddy’s Home.” We hate to admit it, but Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg’s comedy leaves Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s “Sisters” movie in the dust. It’s not that Tina and Amy aren’t as funny – they just have a lame script to work with. Surprisingly, Will and Mark’s movie is not only entertaining, but suitable for kids. Translation: it’s less vulgar than “Sisters.”

MARK WAHLBERG: HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING

AG_091895_001wahl

Here’s a rare photo of Mark Wahlberg smiling – he usually has a Kanye West style scowl on his face. Actor/producer Mark has plenty to smile about. The family restaurant, Wahlburgers, that he opened in Boston with Donnie and their chef brother Paul, is raking in the bucks and they already opened more restaurants in five states and Canada. The company’s five year plan has them opening way over a hundred more Wahlburgers across the country. So WHAT if the Entourage movie (that Mark produced) was a flop…

MARK WAHLBERG SAYS HE WANTS TO BE A ROLE MODEL

Photo: Mark in The Gambler
Mark Wahlberg wants to be pardoned for an assault that landed him in jail when he was 16, presumably because he is reformed. But that might not be the case. While high on drugs, Wahlberg whacked a Vietnamese man in the head with a heavy stick in an attempt to steal two cases of beer he was carrying, in his Massachusetts hometown. He was also verbally and racially abusive. It turns out the man did not lose an eye from the beating, but Mark served 45 days in jail. He was a bully. Now he wants the incident removed from his record, but he has never apologized to his victim. Actually Mark wants the felony removed because he wants to open a chain of restaurants (Wahlburgers) with his brothers, and some states won’t allow felons to do so. So maybe he hasn’t changed all that much.

IS MARK WAHLBERG CRACKING A SMILE?

You don’t seem many paparazzi photos of Mark Wahlberg SMILING so this is a big moment. (Usually he has that doubtful scowl on his face.) He’s in New York filming Ted 2 with Amanda Seyfried and he has plenty to smile about. His Ted movies helped pay for the new house he had custom built in Beverly Hills for his family of six. It’s a 30,000 sq ft Mcmansion on SIX beautiful acres and five years after he bought the land, the house is finally finished. Thanks, in part, to a talkative bear.

MARK WAHLBERG GAVE HIS LITTLE BOY A THRILL

Mark Wahlberg has lunch with his son and Michael Jordan.

Mark Wahlberg gave his little boy something to remember for the rest of his life. He and his 8 year old son Michael had lunch in Beverly Hills with retired basketball legend Michael Jordan, who happens to be a friend of Mark’s. To mark the occasion, Wahlberg wore a pair of vintage Jordan shoes.

MARK WAHLBERG DOESN’T NEED A HOODIE TO BE SCARY

When we see Mark Wahlberg in this advanced state of overdeveloped muscularity, with the usual angry look on his face, he scares us. (Try to find a photo of him NOT scowling.) We can only imagine that he is stoked with bulk increasing drugs like steriods and always struggling to control his temper. The movie characters he chooses to play seem decent but insensitive and absurdly macho. He talks a lot about how religious he is, but it doesn’t appear to affect his demeanor. Being a tough guy seems like the most important thing to him and he appears to have a chip on his shoulder instead of gratitude for his success. Andy Samberg’s SNL impersonation was dead-on.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T CALL MARK WAHLBERG AN “ACTOR”

Mark Wahlberg seems to have a real identity problem. Who he IS and who he THINKS he is, are miles apart. He apologized to the victims of 9/11 and their families after he offhandedly bragged that if HE were on the terrorist plane he would have done a better job of seizing the plane and would have landed safely. When it was pointed out that this was very insulting to the heroes and victims of 9/11, he lamely apologized by defending his comment: “I’m not an actor – I’m a real guy from the streets and I’ve been in a lot of situations” Excuse US, but Mark is a long way from the “streets.” Wahlberg has appeared in 29 movies, he lives in a ten million dollar plus mansion in a private community, and he MARRIED a supermodel. He’s far from being a street kid, and now we think ACTORS should be asking for an apology.

THE OTHER GUYS: WILL FERRELL’S REDEMPTION

Will Ferrell can breathe a big sigh of relief because “The Others Guys” is set to be number one at the boxoffice this weekend. Opening day was 13.2 million and that’s expected to reach over 35 million by Monday. Will had a lot to lose because his last movie “Land of the Lost” (a real stinker) was a monumental flop. Salary negotiations for his upcoming films depended on how “The Other Guys” fared this weekend. Now his CAA agents can demand top dollar for Will again. Insiders agree that the fact that Will and Mark Wahlberg went all over the country to promote the movie made a big difference. They even had an online contest and the Galaxy theater in Chesterfield, Missouri won the honor of having a second red carpet premier of the film with the stars in attendance. (photo above)
