Who could be a better choice to lead the annual Mermaid Parade at Coney Island than Debbie Harry and Chris Stein from Blondie? The event was created by local artists to celebrate the official start of the summer season on the beach. Participants are urged to dress in hand-made costumes appropriate to the theme – the result is a lot of scantily clad women and wanna-be women with colorful beachy accessories.
