CELEBRITIES ARE COMPETING FOR TOP SPOTS AT THE MET GALA

The 2024 Met Ball celebrity hosts haven’t been announced and it’s already turned into a NIGHTMARE for the powers-that-be at Vogue. According to a magazine source, the top A-list celebrities are all jockeying to have the coveted last arrival time. As our source explains, aside from being asked to co-host, the other most prestigious honor is to be given the latest arrival time. Everyone from Lady Gaga to Beyoncé want to be the LAST to walk on the red carpet. (less crowded, more attention!) Some celebs are even threatening to boycott unless they’re given that final slot! While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, our source whispers that Anna Wintour is sensibly leaning toward giving Taylor Swift the honor of either co-hosting or arriving last.

OUR MET GALA FASHION PREDICTION FOR MEN

Every year at the Met Gala we’ve seen the trains on women’s gowns get longer and more elaborate as female celebrities walk up that long staircase- almost to the point of being ridiculous. Men’s clothing designers have been watching and urging the bolder men they design for to become more open-minded and consider trains for their own attire. This year ASAP Rocky wore a plaid kilt skirt with a long appendage in the back and P Diddy wore a long and abundant cape that dragged behind. Rappers seem to have the audacity to pull off wearing a garment with a train first (weren’t they first to wear pearl necklaces?) and we predict at least one rapper will have a train next year!

WHAT GOT INTO JANELLE MONAE?

Fashion icon Janelle Monae is one of our favorites and an elegant eyeful at every event she attends. Thom Browne LOVES her courageous choices and designs extreme things for her that most people would hesitate to wear. (note the boots) Janelle wore a fabulous outfit to the Met Gala and changed into this skimpier ensemble for the after-parties. Looks like the usually composed actress is REALLY cutting loose on the street outside as she entered Standard party. We wonder what went on INSIDE…

DUA LIPA CAN SIZE UP A ROOM QUICKLY

We have to admire Dua Lipa’s sense of balance. She’s wearing a Marc Jacobs sweater dress with platform shoes that look to be at least 8 or 10 inches tall! One shaky step and she could easily break an ankle. The singer is on her way to Anna Wintour’s pre-Met Gala party in NY and since Dua is already 5’8”, she will tower over most people at the event…perhaps giving her a social advantage.

PETE DAVIDSON ON THE RED CARPET BEFORE & AFTER KIM KARDASHIAN

Yes, Pete Davidson bent over backwards to live up to then-girlfriend Kim Kardashian’s fashion standards- especially when they went to the Met Gala. He actually put on a suit and tie- although it was loose, and we can catch a glimpse of his stomach tattoo peeking out. He was WAY more comfortable in sweats promoting his new film with Kaley Cuoco called Meet Cute.

KYLIE JENNER’S FORMAL BASEBALL CAP

It’s only fair to point out that Kylie Jenner’s Met Gala dress ranked a strong second on the Worst Dressed list. The short sleeve mesh t-shirt under the white fluffy gown with the fifteen foot out- of- control train is bad enough. Top it off with a white backward baseball cap with flowers and a veil, and the result is amusing, but Kylie doesn’t seem to be in on the joke. This is a dress more suitable for Lady Gaga, who would see the humor in it…

KIM K IS NOWHERE NEAR THE SAME SIZE AS MARILYN MONROE

Kim Kardashian pulled a fast one with the Marilyn Monroe dress at the Met Gala. She bragged about losing 16 pounds so she could squeeze into the valuable gown, but that wasn’t enough. The dress could NOT be zipped up over Kim’s oversize bottom. SO special steps were taken – the back of the dress was left unzipped and kim wore that fluffy white wrap to cover the open part. She only wore the original dress when she was photographed arriving and walking upstairs at the Met for a few minutes. Once inside, she immediately changed into a DUPLICATE of the original dress that actually fit her, and then she could drop the wrap and walk around comfortably. Like a lot of women, we’re betting Kim WISHED she had Monroe’s figure, but she doesn’t…

WORST DRESSED AT MET GALA: KATY PERRY

Worst Dressed at the Met Gala was easy this year- it’s a slam dunk for Katy Perry. We love Katy, but fashion is simply not her “thing.” She likes to have fun with it and admits that she takes a lot of fashion risks but has no regrets. After all, in past years she came to the gala dressed as a cheeseburger and a chandelier, and Tom Ford called her out for it. This year she promised a “different” look and she resembles a bawdy saloon dancer in the wild west. There’s nothing flattering about this look – from the head scarf to the bustle – and we cannot IMAGINE what designer will admit responsibility …

J BALVIN: WORST DRESSED MAN

It’s not easy to make J Balvin look bad, but Jeremy Scott managed to do it at the Met Gala. The Moschino designer is wearing a perfectly delightful outfit of his OWN- so why does sexy singer J Balvin look like an overstuffed clown? Don’t know if Balvin had anything to do with the design of this overbejewelled costume, but it’s the first time we’ve seen the handsome Latinx singer look just plain silly …

OUR FAVORITE MET GALA LOOK: PETE DAVIDSON

Just SEEING Pete Davidson SO out of his element at The Met Gala – and wearing a SKIRT- made the whole evening worthwhile. His Thom Browne outfit was original and totally unexpected. At least Pete resisted the urge to wear a TRAIN, which most of the women and a surprising number of men did not. Rihanna stole the night in her long train on that museum staircase a few years ago and designers REMEMBERED. Now loooong trains are a dime a dozen, making socializing at the party inside difficult, at best. (We don’t think clothing should interfere with having FUN!) Our favorite train of the night belonged to Lil Nas X and, sadly, the worst train was worn by Debbie Harry.
