BARACK AND MICHELLE OBAMA FOUND THEIR HAPPY PLACE

Forget Chicago. (It was 11 degrees there this weekend.) Former Prez Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle are looking to live part-time where Barack grew up – in beautiful Hawaii. They’ve always vacationed there with their daughters, and now the Obamas are building a new home there- but it hasn’t been easy. Their beachfront property on the island of Oahu is causing an uproar with neighbors. First an ancient burial site had to be moved, and a turtle pond was threatened. The acreage also features a sea wall that could accelerate erosion of the public beach. Obama has been dealing successfully with most of the problems and he stopped by the site to inspect progress this week. Barack and Michelle also dined at the Island Vintage Wine Bar in Honolulu and posed for a photo with the owner Paul Kang and the chef Christine Lee. Both look relaxed and happy – and well fed.

HOW ABOUT A SELFIE WITH THE FORMER FIRST COUPLE – AND SOME PIZZA?

Some businesses have responded to Covid-19’s unforeseen circumstances with a sense of humor and it’s a welcome relief. Grimaldi’s pizza restaurant in Chelsea in New York has a pair of ceramic statures of Barack and Michelle Obama (wearing masks, of course) seated at a table by their entrance. So far the restaurant is only open for take out and delivery, but they found an entertaining way to remind everyone to mask and keep their distance. Passers-by can stop and safely take a selfie with the famous couple!

MICHELLE OBAMA’S BOOK IS THE CURE FOR SOCIAL ISOLATION

Instead of lapsing into a vegetative state, it’s not a bad idea to do some of those things you’ve been putting off that take time. We are halfway through Michelle Obama’s book, and already we like her so much more. Growing up in a lower middle class home on the south side of Chicago and ending up at Princeton University and Harvard Law School is no easy feat. Michelle documents her amazing success with honesty and a complete lack of ego. Her story is personal and inspiring for all women. Her description of the man destined to become her husband – his flaws and attributes- makes him even more appealing. We strongly recommend this book if you haven’t read it, and after you finish it, pass it on to your daughter…

THE FEMALE OBAMAS SPENT FATHERS DAY IN ITALY

The Obama women – First Lady Michelle, daughters Malia and Sasha, and Michelle’s mom – are loving every minute of their good will trip to Italy and London for six days. It’s a shock that the outing will end up costing over half a million dollars and the President isn’t even included. Which brings up a touchy subject. A political observer told us that the President and First Lady have been taking separate vacations for quite awhile and he predicts that when the Obamas leave the White House, they will divorce. We hope not.

Both Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey are bound to be INFURIATED by a new book coming out that’s documenting the bad blood between them. Author Edward Klein pointed out in “The Amateur” that after Oprah publicly endorsed Obama on her show, she expected VIP treatment in the White House. Obama himself was affable and strategized with Oprah, but Michelle was increasingly standoffish. Michelle had an assistant return Oprah’s calls, and kept a close eye on her husband. Privately she seemed to think Oprah wanted to use her white House ties to promote herself and perk up her ratings. The final blow came when Michelle implied that Oprah was too hefty and inappropriate to join her battle against childhood obesity. Despite Michelle, Oprah remains a huge supporter of Obama.
