Michelle Pfeiffer is playing her in the HBO Madoff movie The Wizard of Lies – how flattering is THAT! (Robert DeNiro is playing Bernie.) Michelle, 59, turned up for the premier looking ravishing. After a three year absence from the screen, the Scarface star says she’s eager to work again.

ROBERT DE NIRO’S CAREER IS ON FIRE

We’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of the brilliant Nancy Meyers‘ The Intern starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway (Sept 25.) The trailer, above, indicates that the movie is smart and funny – with DeNiro at his comic best. He’d barely finished that project when De Niro started filming the Bernie Madoff story called The Wizard of Lies” for HBO. Michelle Pfeiffer plays his wife Ruth and judging by the first on-set photo released, it looks quite fascinating. It’s gratifying that DeNiro is 72 and still working nonstop. If only women could have such long acting careers…

It’s called Malavita and it’s the story of a mafia family relocated to Normandy by the witness protection program. Robert De Niro plays her husband and the family has a difficult time trying to change their manner of living and adapting to the French life.

Walking into a screening of “People Like Us” completely uninformed (the best way) – we expected to see yet another lightweight romantic comedy, probably located in New York. What a pleasant surprise – it was NOTHING like we anticipated. After enduring far too many mindless summer action movies, we found one with a PLOT! A fascinating, plausible story with believable, unique characters. Well written, a drama – but funny at times. (One of the writers was a woman.) Chris Pine (SO good as Captain Kirk in Star Trek,) Elizabeth Banks, and Olivia Wilde proved to be real actors, not just pretty faces. And Michelle Pfeiffer is perfectly cast. If you like a smart, warmhearted movie and plan to see it -we advise you NOT to read a thing about it in advance – the less you know the better. Just go with an open mind.
