BARBIE AND TAYLOR SWIFT ARE BREAKING RECORDS RIGHT AND LEFT

The summer of 2023 has revealed the power of women. Females are dominating the movie world AND the music world. Greta Gerwig’s Barbie had the biggest opening weekend of all time for a film that was not a sequal. The third weekend is expected to bring in a worldwide total of a billion dollars! At the same time, Taylor Swift concerts and albums are smashing records. She’s the first living artist in 60 years to chart 4 albums in the top 10 at once on the Billboard chart. In ONE day she sold over two million tour tickets and held the top 10 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for her Midnights album. Keep in mind, Beyonce’s tour is also raking in the bucks. It’s high time the power of women both as performers and consumers is recognized…

We did NOT realize that Billie Eilish contributed some of the best music to the Barbie movie, or that she happens to be a huge fan of the original Barbie doll. We haven’t seen a lot of her since her amicable split from musician Jesse Rutherford, but she turned up at the Barbie Hollywood premier looking happy and different. Billie changed her hair color and added pink to her playful, funky wardrobe. (Those SHOES!) No sign of Gucci at THIS event. At 21, Billie is already worth 30 million dollars…

PARIS JACKSON IS DOING ALL RIGHT

When she’s not modeling for European fashion designers, Paris Jackson is having success performing as a singer. She has lost a lot of weight, so we’re guessing her modeling career has never been better. She sings in a lot of clubs and just appeared at the Bottle Rock Napa Valley music festival with 40 other acts – such as Keanu Reeves and his band Dogstar, Post Malone, Lizzo, Lil Naz X, and The Struts . (Remember she sang with The Struts on their song Low Key in Love.) She still believes she inherited her musical talent from her father Michael Jackson…

KIEFER SUTHERLAND HAS A FEAR OF BEING IDLE

The first thing we noticed about this photo of Kiefer Sutherland at LAX is the suitcase in his hand – it’s a bit of a relic – heavy leather and no wheels. The beat-up cowboy boots are a clue to where he’s going. Kiefer is spending every minute he’s not acting singing country western music with his band. Coronavirus notwithstanding, he’s on his way to Zurich where he’s performing for a week starting Friday night. We imagine that whiskey and cigarettes cough of his might alarm a few people on his fight.

DAVID DUCHOVNY: ON SECOND THOUGHT, I’D RATHER BE A MUSICIAN

David Duchovny looks perfectly content after having a satisfying lunch at Soho house. But apparently he’s not totally content with his career. The X-Files star shares the same ambition as Johnny Depp, Jared Leto, Kevin Bacon, and Dennis Quaid – they’re all actors who want to be musicians. David, who has degrees from both Yale and Harvard, just released his SECOND album, Every Third Thought, and he’s in the process of touring with his band (described as “Dad-rock” by one critic) in the US and Canada, and he’s booked in Australia next year. So who needs TV?

We love a band that ranks fashion as important as music. Palaye Royale call themselves an “unsigned fashion-art-rock band” and they hail from – of all places – Las Vegas! Just by looking, we would have guessed somewhere in Europe. The three guys have rather unbelievable names – Remington Leith, Sebastian Danzig, and Emerson Barrett, but their sense of style is delicious. It’s been a long time since a band’s LOOKS have made us want to listen to their music. (Above, one of them was photographed arriving at Chateau Marmont.) Click HERE to watch a video.

GUTSY KELLY CLARKSON TO CLIVE DAVIS: NO MORE MR NICE GUY!

How refreshing it was to have Kelly Clarkson criticize and deny some of the recollections Clive Davis wrote about in his new book. Her outburst took courage because MEN rule in the world of music management and heaven help the woman who is not cooperative. We never thought about it, but Clive Davis was probably a tyrant just like the majority of music moguls and it’s likely that he too, treated women in that familiar and condescending manner. It seems he just wasn’t that nice to newcomer Kelly. We applaud Kelly’s courage in standing up to Davis! Click HERE to review Kelly’s complaints.

Johnny Depp turned up at the Dark Shadows premier solo and looking a bit cleaner and better put together than usual. He and his buddy Tim Burton try to outdo each other looking as gross and peculiar as possible at times. Johnny’s a typical musician – he admits he NEVER dances “unless it’s choreographed in a movie.” Too bad. But it’s rumored that he will be playing music again at The Mint in LA within the next few weeks, – and (bigger rumor) – he MIGHT be joined by Keith Richards.

JOHNNY DEPP: HE’S SINGLE AND READY TO ROCK!

Now that he’s single for the first time in almost 20 years, Johnny Depp is reliving his rockstar youth in Hollywood. He was a starving musician in Los Angeles before he became an actor. Recently Johnny moved back to the USA because France wanted to start taxing him and his relationship with Vanessa Paradis fizzled out. Since he got back he’s been popping up all over town at clubs like The Mint, totally into playing either guitar or drums. Most recently he jammed with his old buddy Marilyn Manson. He always appears unannounced and it causes considerable excitement among female audience members, even in this jaded town.

EDDIE VAN HALEN CAN STILL PLAY GUITAR, BUT CAN HE STILL “JUMP?”

Wow, we wouldn’t have recognized Eddie Van Halen, 56, if we bumped right into him! He’s changed a lot, but he’s survived tongue cancer and rehab and he’s still making music so we have to give him credit. The last time we saw him perform a few years ago he looked like a bum with rotten teeth and his feet flapping out of his shoes. He’s cleaned up and above, he’s with his new wife Janie Liszewski leaving their hotel in New York.
