Neil Sedaka

NEIL SEDAKA IS STILL ON THE ROAD

Old school singer/songwriter Neil Sedaka popped into Craig’s for dinner and left with a doggie bag. The Breaking Up Is Hard to Do singer had a string of hits in the 60’s but feels The Beatles ruined his performing career by changing musical taste. He went on to great success as a songwriter with songs like Where the Boys Are. At 77, he still tours and performs in the US and around the world. In fact, he’s appearing at the Saban theater in Beverly Hills in January. We fondly remember his Scopitone video of Calendar Girl. Did you know he’s only 5’5” tall?

Neil Sedaka took his lookalike grandchildren to Craig’s restaurant this weekend. They both seem to have inherited his infectious smile. Neil has been a successful songwriter and singer since the 1950’s. A video of his hit song “Calendar Girl” was made for Scopitones in the early 60’s. The video jukebox never quite caught on, but the surviving vintage videos are adorable. Click HERE to watch Calendar Girl. Neil eventually MARRIED the blonde, Leba, featured as Miss March, May, and November in the video, and over fifty years later they are STILL married.

NEIL SEDAKA: A MUSIC VIDEO PIONEER

Here’s someone you haven’t seen in awhile – it’s Neil “Breaking Up is Hard to Do” Sedaka. He was most successful in the early 60’s and 70’s with his own songs, but wrote plenty of hits for other singers – like Connie Francis. (He wrote her signature song “Where the Boys Are”) He was one of the first to produce music videos for Scopitones. Those were jukeboxes that featured video screens. We happened to own one in the 70’s and watched “Calendar Girl” over and over, featuring girls in bouffant hair and big bikinis. Above, the 75 year old is performing at Albert Hall in London – the English still appreciate America’s early rockers.
