OCEANS 8: NO WONDER THEY NEEDED 34 MAKEUP ARTISTS

We know for sure that Oceans 8 is a slam-dunk to get at least 2 Oscar nominations – not for acting, but for makeup and lighting. Not one of the leading women in this film appears to be A DAY over 35! Everyone LOOKS miraculous! That’s not to say the acting isn’t fun – the assembled assortment of women is delightful. Too bad the script was so obviously written by men – the female leads often one-upped each other with smart-ass lines that egotistical men would use – all that was missing was cigars. So the female characters weren’t well drawn and the story seemed too familiar, but the movie IS fun to watch – the Met Gala is an eye-popping setting and we love all the female leads. Satisfying summer movie…

NOBODY MAKES AN ENTRANCE LIKE RIHANNA

Rihanna is thrilled about her unexpected role as a computer whiz in Oceans 8 and as usual she livened up the red carpet at the New York premier. Rihanna, 30, has been aiming toward an acting career, but it’s hard to figure where she’ll find the time. Singing aside, she’s the most successful celebrity designer and the undisputed queen of high and low fashion. Her FentyXPuma collection boosted Puma sales 92% and her red carpet looks are as good as her streetwear. She’s the real deal.

EGOMANIACAL KANYE WEST CAN ONLY DREAM OF BEING AS SUCCESSFUL AS RIHANNA

Without fanfare, Rihanna, 28, is gradually oozing her way into the acting business. She’s taking her time and learning along the way. She was cast to play the iconic Janet Leigh role on the final season of Bates Motel. And she’s currently filming Oceans 8 where she’s getting acting tips from the likes of Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett. In the script, eight women scheme to pull off a major New York robbery somehow connected to the Met Gala – yes, that means fashion galore! Rihanna’s character is a Caribbean tech wizard. With her success in music, fashion, etc, Rihanna is sort of THE ANTI-KANYE. She does is ALL quietly, without Kanye’s Trump-style bragging, posturing, and tirades. Last year she earned 75 million, leaving Kanye WAY in the dust….

CATE BLANCHETT: LEADER OF THE OCEANS 8 RAT PACK?

We never paid much attention to George Clooney’s Oceans Eleven series of movies – just the same old stuff – self-indulgent and unoriginal. Now the same people are filming Oceans 8 with an all-female cast and we’re puzzled. It’s kinda sad that women have to remake roles written for men because there are so few original parts for women. Of course it’s better than NOTHING – but don’t blame the women if the worn-out casino heist concept seems tired. The cast is stellar- Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Sarah Paulson, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, and Asian American rapper Awkwafina (Nora Lum.) That’s a powerful and varied group. Hopefully, the script was written by women. Cate Blanchett started filming scenes in New York and she looks formidable in her green velvet suit. The movie isn’t coming out until 2018, however.
