Nicole Richie missed the launch of her own jewelry line at Bebe on Rodeo this week. She designed special affordable pieces from her “House of Harlow 1960” collection just for the store. She called in sick and the buzz at the party was that she has swine flu. Maybe that’s the buzz she INTENDED because everybody was worried about her and not annoyed by the no-show. Swine flu is a great excuse for missing anything.

RIHANNA’S PARTYING NONSTOP AND JAY-Z IS NOT HAPPY

Jay-Z is struggling to control his popular protege Rihanna because he thinks she’s cheapening her image by partying almost every night. She’s a regular at all the hot New York clubs and thinks nothing of staying out until all night and finishing up at after hours clubs. She’s hanging out with a druggy, questionable crowd and sometimes can barely walk unaided at the end of a long evening. Jay-Z assigned one of his own bodyguards to keep an eye on Rihanna, but she knows he reports back to Jay-Z, so she deliberately loses him. Jay-Z hoped Rihanna would have a hard-working good girl image like Beyonce, but she seems to be more interested in having a good time, and he’s worried.

QUEEN LATIFAH’S GIRLFRIEND HAD A HAPPY BIRTHDAY

It’s nice to be Queen Latifah’s girlfriend. The Queen rented a private room at Nobu in West Hollywood and held a private dinner party for around thirty people to celebrate her very personal trainer Jeanette Jenkins’ birthday. Outside the restaurant, a fully loaded shiny black Prius was waiting to surprise Jeanette. That’s a step in the right direction – two years ago Latifah gave Jeanette a new Range Rover.

OCTOMOM PUMPS IT UP IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE

Octomom Nadya Suleman miraculously found time to bring her son Joshua to a “Pump It Up” birthday party in Chino Hills. That’s a party where they have a room full of inflatable castles and elaborate slides and air filled structures with lots of bouncing for kids. Ironically, Nadya looks like she’s been doing some “pumping up” of her own – check out the lips.

Pamela Anderson is having trouble selling her Playboy Airstream trailer – it’s already been marked down from $100,000 to $39,000 to “best offer.” Hugh Hefner presented Pam with the party trailer in 2002 and it’s currently on display in Laughlin, Nevada. The vehicle features a mirror ceiling, white shag carpeting, and bunny logos all over the place. The round bed vibrates, but there happens to be an inconvenient stripper pole right in the middle of it!

It took awhile for Lindsay Lohan to recover from her July 4th weekend. We hear she began celebrating early at P Diddy’s white party that started at 2 in the afternoon. She carried on at the after party at Guys & Dolls and was flopped over a couch when the lights came on at 2 AM. She was just about the last to leave. Lindsay had to be helped out the door and huddled in the backset of a friend’s car – probably headed for yet another get together.

Not only do you get the celebrity presence, but they are entertaining in themselves. ARE HOLLYWOOD KIDS REALLY SPOILED?

We just got some juicy details from movie mogul Ron Meyer’s Easter party in Malibu last Sunday. It was aiming to be “green” – in Hollywood that means no paper plates or cups – only china, silver, and crystal, plus linen table coverings and napkins in pastel colors. All the trees in the driveway and yard were festooned with pastel ribbons.
Nearly 500 guests and their kids feasted on custom omelets and waffles, vats of oatmeal with raspberries, bagels, etc. topped off with mountains of Sprinkles cupcakes in pastel colors. Two forty foot long buffets groaned with designer food. The kids ran around and hunted for hundreds of plastic eggs that were hidden all over the beachfront property- they were stuffed with candy, toys and some with cash!
While Suri and Katie hunted for eggs, Tom Cruise played touch football and he was described as “throwing like a girl.” Barbra Streisand and James Brolin had a long conversation with Meryl Streep. Also socializing and sipping champagne: Warren and Annette, Goldie and Kurt and Kate Hudson, Tobey McGuire, Leonardo DiCaprio, the Spielbergs, Conan O’Brien, Jamie Foxx, and the Arquettes. Most of the kids over ten were furiously texting and talking on their cell phones.
The best part was the “Petting Zoo” – “it was like Noah’s ark.” They had baby chicks and ducks, baby pigs, baby goats, two baby ZEBRAS, miniature ponies, a baby kangaroo and a baby camel, and a young chimp. Before guests departed they were reminded to pick up their individual Easter baskets, which were hanging in the trees labeled with each child’s name. The hefty baskets contained MORE STUFF- movies, DVD’s iPods, games, gourmet chocolate, toys, stuffed animals – whatever was age appropriate.
Wow. And this was a “green” party in the middle of a recession!

Amazing things happen in LA. Former “Details” editor Annie Flanders, event planner Bryan Rabin, and designer Michael Schmidt, hosted a launch for the Stephen Sprouse book at the Chateau Marmont and it drew an eclectic fashiony crowd. Courtney Love behaved herself and Tatum O’Neal looked relaxed and happy. Where else but LA can you see Dita Von Teese and 50’s B movie queen Mamie Van Doren in the same photo? Dita’s a good sport, Mamie looks hot, and the girl in the green dress is burlesque dancer Ava Garter.

Party girl Pamela Anderson hosted a night at Primal nightclub in Atlanta and she was an active participant in the festivities. She arrived on time and, unlike SOME people we know, didn’t retreat to a dark corner. She mingled with the crowd of 2000 – posing for photos and sipping champagne. She danced and flirted and partied until 2:30 AM. Pam and her pals were put up at the W Hotel in midtown Atlanta. It’s rumored that she was paid around $50,000 for the night and promoters say she was worth every cent.

Eddie Murphy is back in circulation. Last week on Monday he showed up at Area with a woman who was described as “the Pam Anderson type” only younger. She was chomping gum and blowing bubbles and one observer snickered that it looked like Eddie paid for her company. The following Monday Eddie returned to Area with Shawn Wayans and Arsenio Hall. The guys were described as “energetically pursuing” women. They grabbed the pretty girls who walked past their table and sent a bodyguard to pick up others for them.

Janet Jackson’s off-again on-again boyfriend Jermaine Dupri is not in good graces with the new SLS Hotel on La Cienega in Beverly Hills.The hotel flew him into town and gave him a lavish suite for the weekend because he agreed to bring Janet for the hotel’s opening. Janet never showed up, but Jermaine lived it up all weekend, partying and hitting all the Hollywood clubs. The hotel is justifiably miffed because they spent a lot of money for Janet to show up and Jermaine is hardly a substitute.

THE AMAZING RACE'S VYXSIN AND KYNT: HEY, LET'S PARTY!

The Amazing Race picked up a slew of new viewers when they added punk kids Vyxsin and Kynt from Louisville to show #14. (Kynt was the first contestant to lug a flat iron hair straightener in his backpack.) Maybe their beauty needs slowed them down, and the colorful pair didn’t win, but they are stretching their fifteen minutes of fame by moving to Hollywood. Last week they hosted a pop-up party for Amazing Race at Shakey’s Pizza on Hollywood Blvd. Fans were invited via an open invitation in Facebook and MySpace, and 200 showed up for the free pizza, soda, beer, and pink and black t shirts. Vxysin and Kynt are already booked to host several more parties in different locations.

We’re assuming the fans who paid $250 to get into Miley Cyrus’s early birthday party at Disneyland last night got their money’s worth. It wasn’t a very intimate party – with 5000 people (some invited, some bought tickets) – but both Miley and her father performed for the crowd. We were especially interested to see that Miley made a point of inviting American Idol runner up David Archuleta. Last July we told you Miley has her eye on David – she thinks he’s really cute AND talented and wants to work with him. In a party crowd that size however, it’s unlikely they had any time together.

Anybody can make a fashion mistake, but this one is a doozy. Kim Kardashian is a natural beauty but she had a major lapse in taste when she wore this outfit to the Ultimate Summer Party sponsored by Sunkist. Her purple mini dress is too short, too shiny, and too tight. And that constricting leather belt in the middle! It couldn’t be less flattering and the ankle boots aren’t helping to achieve that “summery” look. Poor Kim looks about 20 pounds heavier. Better luck next time.
