The nominations for the American Music Awards brought out some noteworthy looks. Paula Abdul seems to be everywhere these days and it looks like she rummaged through her closet and resurrected her 1980’s “Forever Your Girl” look. We could swear we’ve seen that hat and jacket and jewelry before. But she still wears it well. Adam Lambert seems to be trying to finagle a role in one of the “Twilight” movies – he ‘s got the sly vampire look down pat.

Ellen Degeneres has been officially hired as the fourth judge on American Idol, leaving Paula Abdul out in the cold, moaning “What did I do wrong?” (Honey, you asked for too much money!) Ellen says she will be “the voice of the common people who are out there watching the show on TV.” But she’s way more than that – Ellen is smart and showbiz savvy and her quick wit will give Simon a run for his money. Finally, producers hired someone who already has a huge following – Ellen will revitalize the ageing series.

Paula Abdul innocently stumbled out of her car in a Beverly Hills garage and was not at all surprised when paparazzi started snapping her furiously. (We’re betting that secretly she kind of likes it.) Anyway, some guy walking by decided to show off and made a big deal out of pretending to “protect” Paula from the paps but just ended up manhandling her and messing up her hair and clothes. How presumptuous! Paula was polite, but clearly, she was NOT amused.

Paula Abdul looked like she was walking on air at LAX this weekend. You’d think she didn’t have a care in the world. (Maybe she doesn’t. We still maintain that she will return to American Idol.) She was NOT happy to find a police officer writing a ticket for her limo driver. Paula turned on the charm, but the cop wouldn’t budge. He obviously had no sympathy for her career dilemma.

We don’t. We don’t care WHAT Paula tweets. She moaned “With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to Idol.” Haul out the violins. We think it’s another carefully orchestrated drama and both sides are enjoying the resulting publicity and attention. It’s all about the MONEY! Paula wants 20 million and Idol producers are giving her a hard time, but both sides will give in and reach an agreement. (Can you really imagine the show without unpredictable Paula?) Meanwhile, they’re both thoroughly enjoying the uproar.

Paula Abdul SHOULD look happy – money just keeps piling up in her bank account. TWO Las Vegas casinos are in a bidding war to obtain a talent and variety show she’s pitching. Paula plans to produce a music and dance extravaganza similar to the Cirque du Soliel, but SHE will only appear occasionally onstage. According to the Enquirer, she’s been talking to The Venetian hotel and Steve Wynn’s Encore and both are offering tens of millions of dollars for her services. The rich get richer.

A publishing source has been hearing rumblings that a former American Idol employee is shopping around a tell-all book could prove embarrassing to the show. The author claims that certain contestants are pre-selected “plants” and these “chosen few” bypass the usual process by skipping the early audition rounds and are ushered right to the front of the line. The former employee also says that contestants are strong-armed into singing certain songs. Producers know that if a contestant sings a song that’s not well known or appropriate for their style, they’re more likely to be voted off, so essentially they can control the voting process. Naturally Paula Abdul provides plenty of fodder – allegedly she travels with “two gallon size ziplock bags full of orange prescription bottles.” And that’s just the beginning.

We just heard a story about Paula Abdul that happened a couple of months ago but it’s still relevant. According to a witness. Paula was wearing a baseball cap and bouncing happily up and down the aisles at the Target store in Palm Springs. Suddenly she stopped dead, pulled out her cell phone, started shaking and crying, and dropped the phone. A concerned salesclerk watching her meltdown offered to help and took her to the manager’s office so she could sit down. Paula was sobbing and asked them to call her friend who was outside “in the car.” The friend came in and assured Paula “everything is going to be OK” and calmed her down. She had a glass of water and after fifteen minutes Paula started apologizing profusely for the “inconvenience ” and said she felt “foolish.” She waved goodbye and left the staffers wondering if she had an anxiety attack or WHAT.

Paula Abdul is cuddling her Beverly Hills Chihuahua Tulip on her way out of a medical building. Paula, who seems to have trouble keeping her balance at times, fell flat on her face and nearly broke her nose awhile back when she tripped to avoid stepping on Tulip. At least that’s how the story goes. It’s obvious that Paula is devoted to her pet.

No wonder Paula Abdul is so jittery. That stalker who committed suicide outside her house has been harassing Paula for over three years with hundreds of letters, phone calls, and surprise visits. Just a week before she died, Paula Goodspeed, 30, cleverly sent flowers to Abdul with a note that read “Hope you’re doing great – here’s my new cell number” signed “Love, JT.” When Paula learned it was NOT from her on-again off-again boyfriend JT Torregiani, she freaked. And just when it seemed the nightmare was OVER, the NY Post says the stalker’s brother BLAMES Paula for sending his sister over the edge! How crazy is THAT! Let’s hope mental illness doesn’t run in that family.

This photo will probably raise Paula Abdul’s eyebrows. Paula’s on-again off-again boyfriend JT Torregiani is seen here walking with sexy Australian model Sophie Monk, outside Beso. Is he just being polite to a customer or is it something more? Beso is JT’s latest business venture so it’s not surprising he’s nice to customers. He recently turned down The Bachelor reality series and it was speculated that he did it because he still cares for Paula. Paula Abdul has every right to resent the fact that journalists are SO interested in HER reaction to the new American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi. As soon as the new judge was announced, the press jumped on Paula and ONLY Paula for her response. Are they trying to plant the seed that Paula might be replaced? Even the LA Times wrote “Move Over, Paula Abdul.” No one seems to be beating on Simon Cowell’s or Randy Jackson’s door for a comment. It’s an insult to Paula – and ALL women – to assume there would be any jealousy or insecurity on her part. As crazy as Paula is, she is an integral part of the show and viewers get a huge kick out of her. Give Paula a break.

Granted, Paula Abdul DOES look like she was dressed by a drag queen at the ALMA Awards, but it’s not all bad. The jewelry belongs on a Las Vegas showgirl, but we are charmed by the ruffled fishtail dress. The ALMA people should be flattered because Paula went all out and made an effort to add glamour and a festive spirit to the event. It’s good for the show. It’s also rumored that Paula turned up with her restauranteur exboyfriend JT Torregiani, so it looks like it’s on again with him.

You have to admit, Paula Abdul looks pretty great in this picture. And despite her wealth, she’s no snob when it comes to shopping. She likes the cheap stores as much as she likes the exclusive shops. She shopped with an assistant (no bodyguards or anything like that) at the American Apparel store on Robertson last week. Paula gleefully picked out a large quantity of t shirts and tops along with some leggings She piled them up on the counter and paid without asking for a “celebrity” discount.

Paula Abdul is obviously doing something right because she has never looked better. For some reason the Neuromuscular Disease Foundation gave her an award at a charity dinner the other night – presumably she does a lot for them. She and her exboyfriend JT Torregiani are now just “friends” (they still have business ties) so she’s available again.
