PENELOPE CRUZ KEEPS FAMILY UNDER WRAPS

No surprise that Penelope Cruz, 47, is looking adorable as usual- she’s in Madrid promoting her latest movie by Pedro Almodovar called Parallel Mothers. She was already named Best Actress for the movie at the Venice Film Festival so it looks like a hit. We didn’t realize that Penelope has two children with husband Javier Bardem– Leo, 10, and Luna, 8. The Bardems do a good job of keeping their family extremely private – there are no photos of the children floating around. Interesting fact: Penelope is the first Spanish actress to win a Best Supporting Actress Oscar ( Vicky Cristina Barcelona) and her husband Javier is the first Spanish actor to win a Best Supporting Actor Oscar!

WOODY ALLEN DID SOMETHING RIGHT

Our favorite Spanish couple, Penelope Cruz, 43, and Javier Bardem, 49, introduced their new film Loving Pablo in Madrid. It’s the true story of Virginia Vallejo, a Spanish journalist who fell in love with notorious –and married- drug lord Pablo Escobar. She documented their volatile and dangerous romance in her memoir. We love that these two top actors from Spain actually met and fell for each other while filming Woody Allen’s movie Vicky Christina Barcelona in 2008. They married in 2010 and have two kids.

Penelope Cruz is in Miami filming her role as Donatella Versace in American Crime Story and we are dumfounded by how little she resembles the designer. Donatella, who took over as head designer when her brother Gianni Versace was murdered, is quite unusual looking and has had a number of cosmetic procedures. We know Penelope can act, but visually she couldn’t be further from reality.

Tom Cruise has colossal nerve calling the Vanity Fair article about him auditioning female companions “lies designed to sell magazines.” It’s common knowledge that Cruise saw young Nicole Kidman in her first film “Dead Calm” and called her in to audition for “Days of Thunder.” (She got the costarring part and Tom too.) And of course, he auditioned Penelope Cruz for “Vanilla Sky” and SHE got the part and dated Tom until she was scared off by Scientology. And Tom called Katie Holmes in to audition for “Mission Impossible 3” – she didn’t get the part (Michelle Monaghan did) but Katie got Tom! Does ANYONE believe Tom’s denial? Javier, Penelope and Woody worked together on his movie “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” in 2008. The photographer reported Javier was by her side every minute of the day. A devoted husband. Bardem is playing a villain in the new Bond movie with Daniel Craig, so he’ll be leaving for South Africa soon.

We were wondering how on earth Penelope Cruz would be able to finish her scenes in “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” since she has become so obviously pregnant. Lacing herself into the costumes is one challenge- but how about the action scenes? It so happens Penelope’s lookalike sister Monica Cruz (photo above) is stepping in as a body double for her. Monica can stand in for the sexy scenes where Penelope has to look slim or the active scenes where she has move quickly. And they look so much alike, no one will know the difference!
