CHET HANKS: THE BLAME GAME

The funniest thing we heard this week was Chet Hanks whining that people “hate him” because he comes from a famous and wealthy family. He actually went on to say that his father Tom Hanks was “not a strong male role model” because he didn’t warn Chet, 31, that people might react that way. Chet felt disrespected (a word I loathe) by his peers, claims “They talk behind my back” and says he needed someone to tell him these people are just jealous. Granted, Chet is seeking acceptance in the rap world while using the DJ name Chet Haze and by releasing the video White Boy Summer, featuring twerking girls and vintage cars. Despite his upbringing, Chet speaks “Black English” and prefers to be seen shirtless, revealing his multiple tattoos and muscles.That’s enough to turn anybody off, Chet, so don’t blame your decent and universally admired father for your popularity problems…

BOW WOW: THIS IS WHAT A RAPPER LOOKS LIKE TODAY

All we know is…rap has come a looooong way fashion-wise. Back in the early 90’s, no self-respecting rapper would have been caught dead dressed like a Beach Boy. It was Gangsta all the way. But Bow Wow, performing at the Flamingo Hotel pool in Las Vegas, looks really cute in his Hawaiian shirt, cut-off jean shorts, and white sneakers. But the facial scowl is still there…

WORST DRESSED THIS WEEK: RAPPER 2 CHAINZ

Celine Dion isn’t the only one making style mistakes – rappers can be fashion victims as well. Rapper 2 Chainz (real name Tauheed Epps) is 6’5” so there’s more of him to observe. He’s 39 and looks a bit clownish in this patterned leisure suit and Gucci head band – although we kind of like the sunglasses. It so happens this rapper is smarter than he looks – he graduated from Alabama State with a basketball scholarship.

NICK CANNON IS TRYING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING

You can probably surmise from his attire what Nick Cannon has on his mind- he’s set aside his flashy suits and decked himself out in hip hop apparel, gold chain, camouflage turban (!) and all. Despite his regular job on American’s Got Talent, Nick want to be a rapper again! So naturally he has to LOOK like one. Apparently, being on TV constantly is NOT ENOUGH for Nick and he wants a hit record too.

GENE SIMMONS CAN’T WAIT FOR THE DEATH OF RAP

Kiss singer Gene Simmons created a firestorm in the hip hop community when he commented to Rolling Stone “I’m looking forward to the death of rap!” And Gene thinks rappers have no place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “They sample and talk – they don’t even SING!” He says he likes SOME rap but “I don’t have the cultural background to appreciate being a gangster.” The Family Jewels reality star took his wife of five years, Shannon Tweed, to the Grove for some shopping and dining.

Ireland accompanied Angel when she appeared at UK’s Glastonbury Festival this weekend and – hold on to your temper Alec – they ALREADY have matching tattoos!

NICKI MINAJ KNOWS HOW TO GET HER FANS RILED UP

Rapper Nicki Minaj knows how to cause a scene and she created such mayhem in London that she got thrown out of her hotel. She was staying at The Dorchester and running in and out in different outrageous outfits and wigs several times a day, so paparazzi multiplied and a large number of fans gathered. The mob got louder and more rambunctious every time she came or went. Eventually the crowd got out of control outside the hotel and spilled into the lobby. Hotel guests complained and she was asked to leave. Hopefully she found a place with more security.

Dr. Dre Eminem Good Tipper! Rap

EMINEM AND DR DRE: TABLE FOR TWO

Eminem and Dr Dre dined at a fancy LA steakhouse last week and they both arrived with several important looking bodyguards. The guards sat at tables close enough to keep a close eye on their bosses – and the two music moguls treated THEM to steaks also. At one point Eminem (who according to a witness “looked tiny” in person) went to use the mensroom and his guards checked out the restroom to make sure it was empty. After Eminem went inside, they guarded the door so no one else could enter. The restaurant’s upscale customers were somewhat insulted that the singer felt he needed protection from them. But the guys WERE big tippers.
