WHO IS THIS MAJOR MOVIE STAR?

We did NOT recognize this actor who turned up at a Netflix premier this week – and we’ve been writing about him for YEARS! (He’s had a VERY colorful career) Also he happens to be the only movie star who ever bought a Star gossip columnist (me) a drink in an LA club. The second photo shows him SMILING so you will immediately recognize him as Robert Downey Jr. with his hair shaved off. He’s promoting his Netflix documentary called Sr– it’s a tribute to his independent filmmaker father Robert Downey Sr (who died in 2021) and their relationship. Robert Jr made his acting debut at 5 in one of his dad’s movies. The second photo shows Robert Downey Jr, his son Indio, and wife Susan.

Robert Downey Jr must have a very roomy closet for all his man purses. It seems like every time we see him, Robert is wearing a cross body man-bag or clutch bag of some kind. He must have quite a collection because he has bags for every occasion and outfit. (Apparently someone else noticed his bag habit and put a collection of Robert Downey Jr tote bags for sale online.) Even back in the old days when he was running wild, Robert had a bag – but in those crazy times we assumed it involved drugs. What IS it that Robert carries in those bags?

Robert Downey Jr has always had a sartorial edge, even during the darker periods of his life when he was in and out of courtrooms facing drug charges. Back in the 90’s and early 2000’s Robert had some crazy times,(remember when he staggered into the wrong house and fell asleep in the kid’s bedroom?) but he always looked better than the average actor. Baseball cap addicts Leonardo DiCaprio and Justin Bieber could take a tip from Downey. He was photographed in this jaunty blue suit shopping alone in New York clothing stores. Imagine that! – an actor who actually shops BY HIMSELF.

ROBERT DOWNEY JR MAKES UP FOR LOST TIME WITH HIS MUSICIAN SON INDIO

Iron Man Robert Downey Jr and his 23 year old musician son Indio had lunch at The Palm today. Indio’s mother is Robert’s first wife Deborah Falconer so he was around for the worst years of his father’s addictive life. In 2014 Indio was arrested for cocaine possession but had the felony charges dropped last year after spending time in rehab. He has a band called The Dose and his dad talks it up every chance he gets. Robert had some very tough times back in the day, but he was so likeable and we will always remember him as the only celebrity we weren’t acquainted with, who ever bought us a drink in a bar.

ROBERT DOWNEY JR HAS PLENTY TO BE THANKFUL FOR

In the wake of Charlie Sheen’s disastrous situation, Robert Downey Jr, 50, has a LOT to be thankful for on this holiday. Downey’s career is flourishing – he’s been the highest paid actor in Hollywood for three years straight. But it wasn’t so long ago that he was such a hopeless addict that he made Charlie look like an amateur. Remember when Robert woke up in the WRONG Malibu house? We recall him escaping from yet another rehab and hitchhiking in Venice in his pajamas. He survived multiple rehabilitation centers and STATE PRISON. But through it all, Robert was a likeable guy and everyone hoped for the best. Robert credits his recovery success to marrying the right woman – not something likely to happen to Charlie.(Above, Downey arrived at the Jimmy Kimmel show with considerable fanfare)

Al Pacino Robert Downey Jr Toronto Film Festival

ROBERT DOWNEY JR IN HIS AL PACINO T SHIRT

Two big movies opened the Toronto Film Festival – one starring Robert Downey Jr, and the other starring Al Pacino (seen on Downey’s shirt.) Barry Levinson directed “The Humbling” starring Al as an egotistical theater actor on the skids who awkwardly falls for a friend’s daughter played by Greta Gerwig. The audience found it hilarious. Downey’s movie is called “The Judge” and he’s finally got a real acting role – he plays a lawyer who goes back to Indiana to defend his father, a respectable judge, on a murder charge. Nice to see (above) he hasn’t lost his sense of humor.

Elevator Shoes Height Challenged Robert Downey Jr

THE JIG IS UP: ROBERT DOWNEY JR WEARS ELEVATOR SHOES!

Our observant gossip colleague CJ, the gossip reporter for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, took a close look at our recent photo of Robert Downey Jr and declared “Either he has issues with his feet OR he’s wearing elevator sneakers!” She is absolutely RIGHT – those white sneakers COULD be nurse’s shoes, but most likely the 5’8” actor is augmenting his height. At first Downey hesitated to play Iron Man because of his diminutive size, but inches were added inside his character’s boots. Maybe Robert got to like that extra boost and carried it into his private life…

THE ASTONISHING WORLD OF ROBERT DOWNEY JR

Robert Downey Jr is walking proof that you CAN turn your life around. He went from hitchhiking in his pajamas in Marina Del Rey after escaping from rehab in the 90’s, to being the Highest Paid Actor in Hollywood for two years in a row according to Forbes magazine. From 1996 to 2002, Downey was arrested and rehabbed numerous times for drug offenses, and also spent a year in prison. So it’s pretty amazing that he earned 75 million dollars between June 2013, and June 2014, thanks to his Iron Man and Avengers movies. It helps that he’s an extremely likeable guy. When Jimmy Kimmel heard about the Forbes report, he remarked ”He’s come a long way – I remember when he was just the highest actor in Hollywood.”

ROBERT DOWNEY JR: THE RICH GET RICHER

Robert Downey Jr is in the right place at the right time again. He landed a deal with the Taiwanese HTC electronics corporation, which is seeking a new image to challenge Apple and Samsung. The Sherlock Holmes star will star in their new two year ad campaign for 12 million dollars. The first complete ads will be released this week but we’re not impressed with this sample – although Downey is appealing, as usual. Downey already happens to be the highest paid actor in Hollywood (75 million last year) according to Forbes.
