OMG! JOAQUIN PHOENIX AND ROONEY MARA ARE STARTING TO LOOK ALIKE!

We thought it took at least a few years of marriage before a couple started to look alike, but Rooney Mara, 34, and Joaquin Phoenix, 44, are already well on their way. The two, who have been described as “shy homebodies” live together in Joaquin’s Hollywood Hills home where they enjoy meditating and watching documentaries together. Occasionally they go to a small vegan restaurant or take a karate class together, but the two introverts seem quite happy. Both animal activists, the well-matched pair turned up for National Animal Rights Day in West Hollywood.

ROONEY MARA AND HER MAN RARELY GO OUT

Rooney Mara, 33, is always a red carpet rebel – flamboyance is not her middle name. That makes her more interesting than most – while much of Hollywood is at Halloween parties, Rooney stepped out for an animal charity. Yes, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star is wearing a harness, but it is NOT leather. Shy and standoffish, Rooney met her match in Joaquin Phoenix when they costarred in Mary Magdalene and they are now living together rather reclusively in the Hollywood Hills, with NO plans for marriage.

DON’T UNDERESTIMATE ROONEY MARA

Rooney Mara, 30, has a very specific look all her own. The Carol star is almost a pocket- size Audrey Hepburn – she has the same kind of “deer in the headlights” demeanor that Audrey had. Her look is very anti-Kardashian. Subtle, simple – no fake ringlets, sexy cutouts, or borrowed jewelry . We first noticed her in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which got her an Oscar nomination. This dress she wore to the Palm Springs Film Festival gala (above) perfectly suits her.

“FAR FROM HEAVEN” DIRECTOR TODD HAYNES MAY HAVE DONE IT AGAIN!

Three of our favorite people created a movie together that they showed in Cannes to considerable fanfare and a standing ovation. Can’t WAIT to see it! The guy in the middle is Todd Haynes, the incredible director responsible for one of our all-time favorite movies, Far From Heaven. Heaven starred Julianne Moore and Dennis Haysbert and took place in Connecticut in the 1950’s. It was gorgeously photographed and incredibly sensitive. Haynes is masterful at creating a midcentury vibe. His latest is called “Carol” and it concerns an aspiring young woman who works as a department store clerk, and falls in love with an older married woman. It takes place in the 50’s in New York City. Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) plays the young clerk and Kate Blanchett plays the older woman. Kate’s dress at the premier is a knockout, by the way.

GIVENCHY WON THE OSCAR SWEEPSTAKES WITH ROONEY MARA

Best Actress nominee Rooney Mara, 26, was the “girl most wanted” by designers to wear their gowns for the Oscars because she has not only model looks, but “young and hip” appeal, according to fashion expert Merle Ginsberg. The competition to dress her was SO great that it was estimated she could have been offered up to a half million dollars plus a lifetime of free clothes by a major design house. But Rooney, who usually wears only black and/or white, also insists that her clothes be “comfortable.” And she IS modern – she doesn’t drape herself in borrowed diamonds. She seemed nonchalant about her own fashion importance and told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet that she just decided on her Givenchy dress the morning of the event – she avoided admitting HOW MANY dresses she had to pick from!

After a world press tour, it’s back to reality for “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” star Rooney Mara. She’s in Soho shopping at rag & bone with her boyfriend Charles McDowell. Charles is an aspiring actor and the son of famous parents: Malcolm “Clockwork Orange” McDowell, and Mary Steenburgen, who is now married to Ted Danson. Rooney is preparing for all the award shows she will be attending soon.

CAN ROONEY MARA SAVE “THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO?”

Much will be made of Rooney Mara’s performance in “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” because it’s the best thing about the movie. Her Lisbeth Salander character is one of the most unique and memorable female characters in recent literature and readers- especially women – are fascinated by her. Rooney didn’t deviate from the book. But the script adaptation for the book is a huge disappointment. Viewers who didn’t read the book are doomed to two and a half hours of confusion. The complex story needed simplification for the big screen and the result is exasperating. It’s a glossy, well made, quality film that is far too difficult for most people to follow. Blame the script writer.

ROONEY MARA: WHAT’S THE OPPOSITE OF GOTH? VIRGINAL WHITE!

Rooney Mara grew back her eyebrows, washed off her tattoos and plucked out the piercings her character Lisbeth Salander sported in “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” The result: she looked almost virginal at the London premier. Her white Givenchy couture gown was both sexy and innocent – Rooney obviously doesn’t want to be typecast as a Goth outcast. Her movie is expected to be a Christmas blockbuster despite the dark subject matter.

SET ASIDE YOUR PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS AND SEE “THE SOCIAL NETWORK”

For some reason we were only mildly interested in seeing “The Social Network” and were lucky to be invited to a screening. What a surprise! This movie is a revelation and an inspiration to ALL generations -plus it emphasizes the importance of a great education. It moves along very quickly with a realistic and smart but plausible dialog, and entertaining characters. We didn’t realize that Facebook started at Harvard as an internet version of a yearbook and became an instant hit before it spread to other schools and the world. The students and characters in the movie compete to be the SMARTEST – not the best looking or the toughest. The movie is fun to watch and truly inspiring – it could happen to any of us. The Social Network has the highest movie I.Q. of the year – don’t miss it. (In photo above, Jesse Eisenberg is with Rooney Mara, who landed the lead in “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.”)
