Russell Brand noticed an apparently homeless and shirtless man in the alley behind his yoga class, and stopped to give him a bottle of water. He introduced himself to the guy who seemed to be high as a kite on SOMETHING and had been rolling around in a dirty parking space. They had a chat and Russell talked the man into putting his shirt on and accompanying him to an AA meeting. The guy got into Russell’s Range Rover and they drove off.

Newly single Charlize Theron, 37, looked gorgeous and available at the MTV Movie Awards, but she didn’t give Russell Brand a tumble. Host Russell, also 37, joked onstage that he was looking for love – he and his estranged wife Katy Perry originally hooked up at the awards two years ago. Charlize caught his eye backstage he attempted to draw her into a conversation. Brand turned on the charm that worked so well on Katy. Charlize was polite but didn’t seem particularly impressed and cut the conversation short. Odd – she usually likes English guys.

In 2010 it seemed like an OK idea to agree to be in the documentary called “Part of Me” about Katy’s life. Their romance, marriage, and the disintegration of their life together is all on film. Brand would LOVE the footage of their marriage to be cut OUT, but it’s not going to happen. Now he can only hope that he doesn’t get “The Kardashian Kut.” That’s when his moments on camera are cleverly cut to make him look bad – like when Kim K doctored her reality show so that her ex Kris Humphries looked like the villain.

Russell Brand got all dressed up in his rockstar apparel for a meeting with the House of Commons Home Affairs Committee in London. He gave his views on government drug policy and cited his experience – he was a heroin addict arrested 12 times. He has since cleaned up by using abstinence based recovery. Brand stressed the importance of treating drug addiction as an illness rather than a crime. He urged government to rehabilitate addicts rather than imprison them.

Russell Brand has been a frequent visitor to Mark Mahoney’s Shamrock Social Club on Sunset Strip – his favorite tattoo parlor. Contrary to rumors, he did NOT get any tattoos related to his ex Katy Perry removed there. (Dermatologists do THAT.) On his last visit there with his new girlfriend, Hungarian model Nikolett Barabas, he got some kind of tattoo on his arm while Nikolett watched, but she didn’t get any. They’re not ready for his n’ hers body art yet.

He’s looking mighty relaxed in his yoga pants, love beads, and HORRORS – leg warmers with flip flops! To top it off, he took Oriela shopping at the Crystalarium in West Hollywood and they left with a bagful of magic crystals….

Russell, a recovering addict, avoids the night life that Katy and Rihanna love. He disapproved of the girls’ hard partying and late hours. Rihanna thought Russell was a sourpuss and a wet blanket. When Rihanna didn’t attend Katy’s wedding the friendship was all but over. Now that Katy and Brand are divorcing, we hope the girls will connect for some fun times again. KATY PERRY AND RUSSELL BRAND: THE ODDS WERE AGAINST THEM

“Friends” of Katy Perry and Russell Brand seem to be leaking lots of stories about their divorce to the press and it’s hard to know who to believe. When they were photographed on different continents at Christmas we KNEW the marriage was in serious trouble. Still, it WAS shocking when Russell filed for divorce this week and it seemed like an ungentlemanly thing to do. In civilized break-ups, the wife is encouraged to do the filing. But TMZ sources say that Katy WANTED Russell to file because of her religious beliefs, and they both planned to be out of town when he did it. Why Russell would choose to be in London – the only place with almost as many paparazzi as Hollywood, is unclear. When you think about it, maybe it wasn’t a good idea for a minister’s daughter to marry an admitted former heroin, alcohol, and sex addict in the first place.
