“MARRIAGE STORY”- THE FUNNY AND NOT-SO-FUNNY SIDES OF DIVORCE

We took one look at this photo from the Venice Film Festival and immediately we wanted to see the movie these people are promoting. Don’t know why, but suddenly a film starring Adam Driver, Laura Dern, and Scarlett Johansson, seems very appealing – especially after a summer of mindless action movies. They’re starring in Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story – a funny drama about a west coast-east coast divorce. (Possibly similar to one Noah recently survived) Adam and Scarlett are the splitting couple, and Laura plays a ruthless lawyer. Reviews have been amazing, so we’re eagerly anticipating the November release.

COLIN JOST STILL CAN’T BELIEVE HIS GOOD LUCK

Scarlett Johansson, 34, has never looked better! She seems deliriously happy with her current boyfriend, SNL writer and Weekend Update co-anchor Colin Jost. (Never underestimate the importance of a good laugh.) Colin, 36, still seems a bit stiff and reluctant when posing on the red carpet with his girlfriend of two years, but he’d better get used to it. After all, Scarlett IS the highest paid actress in Hollywood! The cool couple appeared at the lavish premier of Scarlett’s latest film, Avengers: Endgame, at LA’s Convention Center.

Okay, we have to admit we love seeing Scarlett Johansson, 33, and Colin Jost, 36, as a couple. Scarlett has, indeed, made a few mistakes man-wise through the years. Her two year marriage to Ryan Reynolds was short and sweet, but he’s always seemed like a nice guy. Scarlett’s biggest mistake was 24 years older Sean Penn. He had her mesmerized for awhile, but luckily she wised up and moved on. Colin is smart (a Harvard grad) – he edited his school papers and got his writing job at SNL right after he graduated. And they LOOK right together (he always looks like he died and went to heaven!)

VOGUE’S ANNA WINTOUR PULLED A FAST ONE AT THE MET GALA

For some inexplicable reason Anna Wintour wants us to think she has taken pity on Harvey Weinstein’s estranged wife Georgina Chapman and her fashion company Marchesa. Whatever her motivation, Wintour managed to land Chapman’s first interview since the Weinstein scandal changed Hollywood. And that IS a scoop – EXCEPT it featured Chapman in an absurdly (“poor little me!”) sympathetic light with not ONE word of “How could you NOT have known what he was up to?” Not even “Exactly WHAT attracted you to this man you married?” In exchange for the self-serving interview, Wintour coaxed Scarlett Johansson into wearing a Marchesa gown to the Gala. So THAT’s why Scarlett was the first actress to be caught dead in a Marchesa dress! Sorry Scarlett, that was NOT okay and we are deeply disappointed in you…

Romain Dauriac Scarlett Johansson Yummy Pop

SCARLETT JOHANSSON MIGHT SURPRISE YOU AT YUMMY POP

We love the idea of walking into the Yummy Pop store in Paris and having Scarlett Johansson wait on us! She is, after all, co-owner of the gourmet popcorn shop with her French husband Romain Dauriac, and plans to help out occasionally. Romain’s sister will manage the place. Romain is a journalist who now manages a creative ad agency so we figure he knows how to promote the shop into a big business. The gourmet popcorn flavors include everything from Vermont Cheddar to truffle, Parmesan, and sage. (Above, at a pre-opening this weekend, Scarlett waited on customers with Romain watching over her shoulder.)

For starters, Hunter is 6’3” and Scarlett is only 5’3.“ Hunter wanted to be an actor at one time and did a few things, but he seems to have turned to politics. He’s been working for Barack Obama and friends predict he will eventually run for office himself. People magazine declared him one of the Hottest Bachelors in 2009. Finally. Hollywood producers are impressed with the success of Lucy (which trounced Hercules) The Hunger Games, and Maleficent, and they are toying with the idea of making more movies with female leads. Apparently they forgot that women comprise 52% of moviegoers. This SOUNDS like good news for women who are tired of all those dumb male-oriented action movies, BUT, it appears that these producers are talking about making the same stupid repetitious comic book action movies – only with women in the leading roles! It’s an insult to women who actually crave intelligent movies with storylines. More movies from a women’s point of view – YES! Cartoon hero movies with women- NO THANKS!

IT’S IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO LOVE “LUCY”

We had no expectations when we walked into a screening of “Lucy” starring Scarlett Johansson, and it turned out to be an amazing movie. If you loved Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element, The Professional, or La Femme Nikita, you will be hooked on Lucy! It has all the futuristic elements and surprises that Besson is noted for. He loves strong female characters like Milla Jovovich, and Scarlett fills the bill here. Scarlett’s party girl character Lucy is exposed to a new drug that accelerates her mental powers and a group of terrifying Chinese gangsters are determined to get the drugs back. Great story – great visuals – don’t miss it.

Pregnant Scarlett Johansson

SCARLETT JOHANSSON FIVE MONTHS PREGNANT? NO WAY!

Although she DOES look voluptuous enough to be around 3 months along. And it might be the best thing that’s ever happened to her. When she and Ryan Reynolds split, Scarlett went through a dark period of time – she seemed unhappy and unsociable. She was even desperate enough to have a fling with Sean Penn! Now 29, she seems to have come to her senses. A beautiful actress who’s told how awesome she is every day, needs the dose of healthy reality that a baby brings. Scarlett will have someone else to think about, and not dwell on herself. We’re happy for her.
