Simon Cowell never likes to be more than a few feet from a cigarette because he’s a chain smoker and inhales three packs a day. (To make up for it he stocks up on vitamin supplements and skin creams at Whole Foods.) So it makes sense that when he went to Ralph Lauren and found a small decorative silver plated cigarette holder he liked, that he bought 100 of them. He has several huge houses and each room has a cigarette holder in every corner.

EDWARD FURLONG HAS SEEN BETTER DAYS

It’s sad to remember how promising Edward Furlong’s career once was- he was an appealing actor in 1998 when he starred in American History X. Alcoholism and drug addiction – not to mention smoking 3 packs a day – ravaged his once good looks. That and problems with the law and his marriage have sidelined his career and the movies he does go straight to DVD. Now 35, Edward was photographed leaving The Rainbow on Sunset Strip with a woman who looks like his estranged wife Rachael. She also resembles the late Jeff Conaway’s girlfriend.

Will Lindsay Lohan EVER learn? Last October she showed up for a party for Mr Pink’s Ginseng Drink in Beverly Hills. She was photographed holding the beverage and the company was grateful (although what it did for their business we will never know.) So they invited Lindsay to fly on their private jet the last time she visited Los Angeles. Unfortunately the pilot caught Lindsay SMOKING in the bathroom (and it wasn’t her first time.) That’s a BIG no-no. The jet company slapped a $5000 fine on Mr Pink – cleaning fee to get the smoke smell out. And they call Lindsay ungrateful…

Speaking of Las Vegas, we love Barry Manilow, but he’s definitely looking more line-free every day. We just came across this photo on Facebook. He has remarkably smooth skin for a person who started smoking at 9, and puffed 3 packs a day for decades. Now he and his band are all using electronic cigarettes.

(The daughter’s age and name are unknown.) Aside from her designer clothes, Mary- Kate, 26, sets herself apart as a celebrity by wearing sunglasses and smoking. Later Olivier pulled out a cigarette himself. The photo does play up the strangeness of the relationship, no matter how you look at it.

Miley Cyrus tried to give up smoking as her New Year’s resolution but it didn’t even last a day. Miley and her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth are vacationing In Hawaii for the holidays. On New Year’s Day, Miley, 19, woke up early and slipped out to a rocky beach where she fired up a smoke in private. Not a great start to the year. Miley’s hoarse voice has become a drawback in both acting and singing because she sounds gruff and old beyond her years. Smoking isn’t going to help her health OR her career.

Vanessa Hudgens was so brainwashed on “how to behave” by Disney when she was a child star that it’s hard for her to adjust to the fact that she’s grown up and independent now. She had to chop off her hair and gain 10 pounds for her role as an unwed teen mother in “Gimme Shelter” and as a result, she’s not happy with her looks. A photographer caught her deeply inhaling on a cigarette as a friend was driving her through West Hollywood, and Vanessa went bonkers. She jumped out of the car and chased the paparazzi down the street in a rage! Vanessa, you’re 22 now and smoking is not illegal, but it’s a dumb way to lose weight.

Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’ s youngest daughter Tallulah, 17, was walking in Santa Monica with a friend, wearing motorcycle boots, torn fishnet stockings and a white tunic blouse. To no one’s surprise, she reached in her purse and pulled out a cigarette. She’s already a chain smoker like her sisters, and we presume that mother Demi is their role model.

ELTON JOHN DOESN’T LET KANYE WEST GET ON HIS NERVES

We’re always interested in who pals around with Elton John – we were surprised to learn about his drug counseling friendship with Eminem. Elton performed in Honolulu last weekend and Kanye West was seen hanging out in Elton’s dressing room backstage. According to a witness, Kanye was nonchalantly devouring fried chicken and smoking Newports, and Elton was visibly recoiling from the smell of the food and cigarettes, but he was “too polite to say anything.”

We’re not sure why those rumors that Liv Tyler is pregnant are still circulating because she looks trim to us. Liv, a spokesperson for Givenchy, admits that if she’s put any weight on, it’s because she quit smoking a few months ago. She’s NOT pregnant. Liv was photographed arriving at a party in the Hollywood Hills without the “mystery man” she’s been dating of late. She and the new guy took her four year old son Milo trick or treating on Halloween.
