Drivers on Sunset Strip got an amusing eyeful today. Justin Bieber’s billboard for his latest hit was halfway up and the workers apparently went to lunch, leaving THIS behind. The bottom half of the huge ad is for Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS special collection for female Olympic athletes. So Bieber’s bottom half is actually a muscular woman!

How times have changed. An actress/model named Megan Pormer is determined to get publicity for herself by posing in front of a billboard in which Maxim magazine from France declared her “sexiest woman in the world.” She’s smack in the middle of Sunset Blvd and usually would be getting loads of attention from tourists and assorted men. But she could barely attract a few honks today…

The Whiskey A Go-Go on glorious Sunset Strip celebrated it’s 50th birthday this week and it brought back lots of memories. We had a hip clothing store called The Garment District a few blocks east of the Whisky in the early 70’s and all the performing rock stars shopped there for bellbottoms and vintage shirts. Jim Morrison, Rod Stewart, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Mick Jagger, etc were regular visitors. Last year Richard Branson’s production company was considering doing a TV miniseries on the Whisky comparable to Boardwalk Empire. How great could that be? Rock stars, groupies, gangster drama, music, vintage fashion and cars – all the elements are there! We’d love to see Branson’s people pull it off.

Johnny Depp is redeeming himself in the eyes of his fans by being generous to his exgirlfriend Vanessa Paradis and buying her and their children a house in Los Angeles. The 4.4 million dollar Mulholland Drive mansion has 5,800 sq ft and all the frills including a pool. Johnny, who seems not as enchanted by France as he once was, owned a mansion above Sunset Strip for years before he started a family. It’s likely he’s found another hillside place for himself, not far from his kids Lily-Rose, 13, and Jack, 9. He’s been seen several times on Sunset – occasionally jamming with bands at clubs, and not long ago at Pink Taco.
The Roxy was jampacked with hundreds of humid fans last night as the Sex Pistols proved they’ve still got it. (The only flaw was Johnny Rotten’s peculiar Indian shirt and vest.) Young punks, old punks, people of all types and ages spilled out into the street. Hundreds of Pistols fans who couldn’t get in, blocked the sidewalk in front of the club, holding signs, screaming, jumping, and singing along with the music they could hear drifting outside. A row of fierce looking cops stood in the left turn lane in the middle of the street, poised for trouble that didn’t happen. After the awesome show, the band and their mates got roaring drunk upstairs at On the Rox with Johnny standing on a table alternately guzzling vodka and Jack Daniels. They poured liquor over each other’s heads and when the band left they staggered down the stairs followed by several very young pretty girls.
