THE BRAVE ONE: JODIE FOSTER DOES IT BETTER THAN CHARLES BRONSON

Jodie Foster has redeemed herself. After presenting us with a number of forgettable – and sometimes outright boring – movies that left us wanting more, she has given us more. The Brave One is a thoughtful revenge movie that almost borders on fantasy. Of course there will be comparisons to our personal hero, the Subway Vigilante Bernhard Goetz, but there’s something even more satisfying about a woman in the Charles Bronson role. After her character loses her fiancée and nearly her life to thugs, she manages to more than get even. And like a woman would, her conscience suffers horribly while she does it. But we couldn’t help but CHEER each time she wasted a deserving criminal. She doesn’t want to take it any more, and we don’t either.
