WHO PLAYS FAT AND BALD BETTER – TOM CRUISE OR CHRISTIAN BALE?

Tom Cruise DID play a fat, balding Jewish studio executive named Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder long before Christian Bale assumed the role of the eerily similar Irving Rosenfeld in American Hustle. Five years ago, in fact. Tom’s character Les was exceedingly vulgar, and besides wearing a fat suit and bald cap, Cruise had chest hair glued under the gold chains revealed by his unbuttoned shirt. Christian actually GAINED the extra weight and shaved his own hair for the comb-over. He went the extra mile because he had the leading role in HIS movie and Cruise’s part was a cameo. But the transformation brought them both a lot of favorable attention so they made smart choices.

WATCH CAREFULLY, OR YOU’LL MISS TOM CRUISE IN TROPIC THUNDER

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes CAN make a dull red carpet seem interesting. Tom pulled out his brand new jeans and brand new sneakers for the premier of “Tropic Thunder,” and paired them with sunglasses at night. He is supposedly unrecognizable in the movie, playing a fat, bald movie mogul.

WE NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED THIS IS ROBERT DOWNEY JR

We’re amazed and fascinated by the fact that both of these photos are of Robert Downey Jr. He makes a plausible black man, doesn’t he? Robert is made up for his role in Ben Stiller’s new comedy “Tropic Thunder.” It’s a satire about hammy actors thrown into unexpected jungle circumstances. London papers are trying to stir up indignation by saying Downey’s insulting in “black face” and suggesting they should have hired a black actor for the role. Ridiculous. It’s just a comedy. Maybe it’ll be funnier than Ben’s usual gross-out movies.

Il Sole again. Ben Stiller and his wife Christine had dinner with Robert Downey Jr and his wife Susan last night. They had plenty to talk about. Ben and Robert are currently filming Tropic Thunder in Hawaii. That’s the movie where Matthew McConaughey replaced Owen Wilson and Tom Cruise MIGHT be doing a cameo. Downey’s blonde hair is hard to get used to.
